I'm Vietnamese here. You are right. The thing that the lady with short hair take it in the bowl at 1:49 is "ruốc". We use it with "cơm", "xôi" mainly, sometimes with "cháo". Normally, the "ruốc" is not salty, depend on the maker.
I grew up believing that younger Viet women should wear ao dai in brighter colors, while older Viet women wear darker colors.

Áo dài là áo truyền thống của người Việt. Người mặc áo dài thường thùy mỵ, điềm đạm mới tải được hết nét đẹp thuần khiết. Khi mặc áo dài chúng tôi ít khi nhảy nhót và nghịch như các bạn vì điều đó ít nhiểu làm giảm đi nét truyền thống vốn có của nó....nhưng rất cảm ơn bạn vì đã chuyển tải đến bạn bè về đất nước và con người Việt Nam chúng tôi!

@jl2k vietnam was influenced by China in some aspect, yes. But details that you mention weren't all true. Viet has their Lunar new year way before Chinese came. They called it After harvest festival. Now some of their customs adopted from Chinese new year after invaded by Chinese but they still keep their own customs and the foods and fruits are totally different. That would be a long essay of history that 1 youtube comment is not enough. Am not sure about colour red but with Aodai, same with the Lunar New year, has a long history first based on a older Vietnamese traditional clothing named Áo tứ thân. Though you'll see that Chinese colar in more formal event, many Aodai don't necessarily have that colar to be consider a Aodai cause it's not a very significantly important details of the Aodai. Forms and the way the cut ends are what makes a clothing a aodai. To ubderstand that, I suggest you do research of Ao tu than
