- Cleaning pencils are a NON destructive method of cleaning your metal detecting finds and removing dirt but still leaving the patina on the item. Here is a quick video with a cleaning pencil demonstration. A great little set of finds cleaning tools to have in Your Kit.
Leave the olive oil for the Salad.

Great demonstration, I just bought a set, tried them on a copper Victoria penny I found a couple years ago, as it was my first go, it rubbed the N off the coin in word penny and I rubbed a number off the date, are these better on bronze rather than copper, and are these better on freshly found coins that are still damp rather than bone dry coins, cheers

Just seen this - very interesting - anyone got any opinions on using these on old Roman coins ?
that's is just a dirt and that would go away by soaking in soap-solution for couple of days and then just a tooth brush and toothpick would do the same... would they deal with Coper / Silver Oxydes? have you tried?

Great video, I just got into ancient coin cleaning myself and on my journey to finding any information i can I came across this great pdf call "The art of cleaning ancient coins" by Kevin R Sandes great read and really has lots of info for cleaning and restoring coin. Thank for the vid.

These pencils are only good for dirt ! Don't think they can do miracles...
