    We dont always like using serviced pitches and hardstanding! In this video we try a very basic local #CAMC CL site #offgrid for the weekend, if this is something you’ve considered take a look and see how we get on!
    We were there with our good friends Trev & Sue from ‪@PoshcatsCamping‬, take a look at their great channel here: / poshcatscamping

    If you get a good power bank you can hook it up to your van and be able to use the microwave and or recharge your leisure battery also fridge you can get solar panel to them so they constantly charge the bank up ATB! happy travels

  • @ThatMicro43Guy

    I took the TV out of my van and as long as we can get a Wi-Fi signal we both watch our iPads for tv. We also have a 30000ma charging block which we charge off the car as we are driving to the site and if we drive out on any visits in the car. The BIG advantage is that my wife can watch her Emernation Enders street an I can watch something interesting at the same time
    We use this even when we are on fully provisioned sites as we don’t watch a huge amount of tv anyway but by removing the small tv and the brackets also frees up 8kg of load from the van

    We only ever use CLs. We do 100 nights a year - 75% off grid.
    Always carry 2 x 6kg propane bottles and we use a 100 watt solar panel.
    Never had a problem, even when going off grid for 3 - 4 weeks at a time.
    We stayed on a main club site once, 6 years ago. Never again, far too busy for us!

    • @CaravanChitChat
      @CaravanChitChat  3 года назад

      Yes we should do it much more. Opens up to so many nice little CL’s. It’s fab you spending so much time off grid! 3-4 weeks away off grid sounds fab. It’s the cost as well, the club sites are getting so expensive!

    Off grid is great! Tend to find them to be much quieter. Surprising how little gas you use in the summer too… couple of pounds for heating shower and kitchen tap, cooking on the hob… love it 😊 Both looking well and lovely to see Trev and sue with you too 🙌🏼 Cheers! Michelle and Andy x 🚐😁

    Nice one Aaron (& Vicky) seems to be an in vogue topic right now and something, before all the sizzle kicked off, we had been building into a Coachman in order to be self sufficient to any extent we required… 👍🏻
    I solved the laptop charging with a nifty little 12v socket plug in, which does an adequate job, although I would recommend charging any devices (including power packs as night time back ups) during the day when possible as it helps conserve your leisure battery/ies even better… 😉

    Just like it was years ago, I’m now 69 and we used to go caravan rallying, far back as 1960, a rally consisted of approx about 8 - 20 units in them days.
    My Sister and I had a great time away with our parents in them days, my parents were on Caravan Club Committees, they ran rally’s, even Christmas rally’s at Whitby & Scarborough, they organised for restaurants to do the Christmas Day & Boxing Day Parties.
    Caravans then we’re very basic, if you had a oven you were posh, most vans only only had two burners & a grill, then fridges eventually appeared.
    My Parents did the lot, local rally’s, National Rally’s and then they did international Rally’s. And now to think I’m awaiting a for a New Caravan now, arriving in July, we did have a caravan when our children were young, but do working in the retail industry and working Saturday’s we have to give it up.
    The new Caravans today are pure luxury with showers and fixed beds, we can’t wait to do a bit of both, off grid on quiet sites and some of the camping & caravan sites, might do a rally or two.

    Hi, we spend 3-4 weeks in the New Forest ‘off griffin’ every year. Lot easier now but it’s something we’ve always done. Without solar, back in the day, we could be careful and get 2 weeks out of the battery but now don’t even really worry about battery charge. Fully LED lighting, 12v tv but as you say tend not to watch it and much prefer just rocking-up, parking anywhere and Bish bosh. We have a small 500w inverter that charges all our 240v chargers even our electric bikes. Gas is important along with good fully working systems, heating, pumps etc. But your right, give it a go.

    • @CaravanChitChat
      @CaravanChitChat  3 года назад

      Hey Kevin. Wow 2 weeks our the battery? We’re you constantly watching it? I remember when I was a kid and we had family friends who would go on rallies etc, no solar panels then! We should definitely do it more, we’ve become too used to the comforts of a club site!

    We have spent several long weekends off grid in summer at festivals and weddings, not so sure I would be so keen in winter when gas would be used much quicker and the nights are darker for longer. Agree it gives you chance to get back to nature and enjoy your surroundings

    • @CaravanChitChat
      @CaravanChitChat  3 года назад +1

  • @rickym5474
    @rickym5474 2 года назад

    It's not REALLY off grid camping though. It's still a camping site with easily accessible fresh and waste water facilitates. When I go off grid there is nothing of the sort. I have 60l of fresh water onboard the caravan with another 60l in the back of the car. Grey water is stored in a 70l onboard tank mounted underneath with a standard external rollaway tank for extra capacity. Power is provided by 600w roof mounted solar array going into a 400ah lifepo4 battery bank which runs the caravan electrics, the 12v fridge, and a 1000w PSW inverter for my TV, computer, stereo etc. Gas is overkill with 2x 9kg bottles. I spent 11 days lakeside in the bush where civilisation was a solid hour+ drive away.
    I'm not done yet. I've only recently removed the EHU connection and working my way through stripping out all of the built in 240v stuff because it's completely redundant. The battery bank will be upgraded to 24v with a 24-12v converter for the caravan 12v. The fridge and water pump can operate at 24v. I'm adding another 300w panel to the array so I'll have 900w solar, and wind power is on the cards. I'm considering trialing a diesel heater.
    Obviously I take it to the extreme. A lot of modifications has been made to my shitty 17' 2003 Swift 4 berth, it's totally running close to the 1450kg max axle rating.
    It is absolutely doable, but don't half arse it. The way I see it, if your camping trip involves having your caravan plugged into a power socket for the duration then you're not camping.

    • @CaravanChitChat
      @CaravanChitChat  2 года назад

      I’m assuming you’re not in the UK? This is about as “off grid” as we get here, without sleeping in my pants out in the open and hunting down my own dinner. Just to clarify as well, we wasn’t plugged in, we ran off gas and solar……are you sure you watched this video? 🤣
