Simply vertiginous, pun intended, shifts and the sound of that cello is magnificent and Cicely's musicianship is just so wonderful to behold and listen to. Thanks for sharing and greetings from Scandinavia!
wow, the speed of those shifts looked like the video was playing at 3x normal speed. The precision you have is killer. And the dynamics with the bow, creating softer and louder sounds, wow! This was a really wonderful performance! (I've also never seen a cello with that round decoration underneath the fingerboard and on the body of the cello. How cool)
@@carbonc6065 no, she probably used a too high shutterspeed (and probably too much light). Videos shot that way can look overly crisp and have no motion blur at all. You can see that slow parts look natural. you wouldn't get that with a sped up video.
So glad I set an alert here after discovering you via Brooklyn Classical. It did not disappoint. That close up camera angle is amazing, top level audio recording, and oh yea the cello stuff was good too. That last note is still resonating in my head.

I've been in love with this piece for the past year and I was always looking for someone to make an arrangement on cello and finally you arrived!! And with such a good performance I'll definitely listen to this and learn it if I manage to get where you're putting your fingers hahahaha
VERY fine playing. It is incredibly cool for me to see and hear your instrument because I'm 99% sure I own a copy of it. I own a 1970 cello made by Roloph Wertman that is a copy of an instrument (Gofriller's "Rosette") once owned by a Leslie Parnas. It looks exactly like yours and I can hear many of the sound colors in your cello that are very familiar. Wow.... The unique sound of the large pattern with the wide upper bouts is a sound I fell in love with 30 years ago. I've literally dreamed of hearing the original. This is surreal....
Oh amazing!! Then we are both playing on Weertman copies of the Gofriller! Mine is from 1981 :) I adore it. There are many recordings of my grandfather, if you're curious to hear the Gofriller
@@cicelyparnas super cool. I connected many years ago with Weertman's son who was still living here in Michigan. He had all his dad's notes and sent me a file on my cello with specs, measurements, a couple stories, etc. I would be happy to attempt to connect you if you'd like. You and I are connected on Facebook. I'll send you some pictures and some video (I attempted to sell it once several years ago and glad I wasnt able to) of my Weertman if you're curious. I obviously made a leap that you were playing the original thinking it might have made it to you via your family, etc. Might actually be cooler that you're playing a Weertman! 😂. Regardless, you're a fine, fine cellist, much better then me (I'm a conductor and worship pastor and don't play much anymore), and really a joy to listen to. This is a fun connection! Oh! What strings are you playing? I've played spirocore silver on the bottom and Jargar high on the top for years but I'm open to exploring other sounds.
Oh my gosh, hilarious. Looks like I actually reached out to you several years ago when I was trying to sell the cello. So photos and video of my Weertman are actually in your FB inbox already. 😂. Man.... Facebook never " forgets."
I don't know much about the cello. But, I definitely love the way you play. If you were a painter, you would be Van Gogh. Your playing is colorful, deep, and masterful. Like a good actor, you don't waste a single moment.
@@cicelyparnas You are very welcome. I am Robert and a writer from Florida, and your music brightened my day. So, thank you as well. I love instrumental classical music because it shares a feeling or story or picture without words like sitting near a fire place on a cold day. The chill and warmth are partners in a meaning experience. P.S. I love Van Gogh - his writings and paintings are amazing. In certain ways, when I look at his work I am like I feel that way about things too.
Ah thank you so much!! The cello is actually quite a little diamond in the rough. My grandfather had a Gofriller cello, and he let a friend of the family, who was an amateur maker, build a copy of it. That's this cello :) I think it was built in 1981
Oh thanks! For this one I used a low budget something that I don't think they even make anymore 😅 and an AKGC414 a little further back. But these days I've been doing mid-side, which I like much better for solo cello
What’s the seal under the fingerboard? And btw Cicely whatever you put out into the world I will 100% watch it. Obsessed w/ your playing style (and assuming this is considered modern, definitely into all of that)
Oh my gosh, thank you!!! That detail on the cello is so pretty, isn't it? It's actually a carving directly into the wood based on a Rosette similarly done on the instrument it's a copy of :)

I don't wish to argue with you. What I will say for myself is that speeding up a video would be pointless and carry a burden of a loss of integrity. I know myself and my values, and I do my best to move through the world with honesty and integrity. So. Speeding up a video wouldn't even cross my mind. I'm not sure what you're seeing that makes you suspicious, but I can only imagine doing such a thing if I wanted to cover up an insecurity in my playing. At this point, though, I don't have anything to prove. I'm pretty happy with where I am in my life and career. Thank you for taking such an interest in my work, and I'm sending you well wishes.
I also watched this video over and over and every movement, especially face looks off. I dont know what is going on here but it looks surely sped up. When you play it at 0,75 speed it suddenly looks normal.
I kept myself from watching the whole thing until I had a comfy moment. Love it!
Absolutely Awesome. Incredible tune and incredible playing, as always. ♥
Ahhh thank you guys so much, that really means a lot!! 🥰
