ILLUSION - one of the darkest Ateez songs Now for TMI aka a paste of something I wrote on Illusion a while back…. There is a lot of lore in the song and MV that makes it BRILLIANT. They are trapped in an ILLUSION created by the Strictland (World Z) bad guys in their lore by breathing hallucinogenic gases. On first glance it is a fun summer song, BUT when you read the lyrics, the song is much darker. Like the Lost Boys in Peter Pan, Ateez are in a false reality. An ILLUSION. They try to make sense of this dream world and what they are doing as nothing is normal. The cromer (hourglass) is on the table and you can see a Halateez hat in the box in the bottom right. Then, it shows the Halateez mask draped over the globe. Then, when Seonghwa is looking into the glass ball, you can see the silhouette of a Black Pirate/Halateez. Also, you can see one of the Halateez standing at the end of the tunnel. (Borrowed English lyric translations) “It feels like a lie, a scene that feels unreal” "What's going on right now? Where am I? Who are you?" "Its whatever for now, let's party all night long. Just follow me, everything is beautiful here.” They continue to be reassured that nothing is wrong. “There's a voice from somewhere telling me, we party all day. From somewhere a voice tells me, hurry up and party.” "It feels like I'm dreaming, please don't wake me up," "One day, two days, three days, four… I don't know what day it is." "The blue sun is blinding, blinding, blinding" “Dying and living, it keeps on repeating, but no one is forced to make sense of it all." They sing about the blue sun, the purple sky, the flowers, etc, but someone shouts in the background: "LET ME FREE!" JUST WOW! Theory is they are trapped in the glass boxes you see in other videos like in Say My Name and are being force fed this illusion to keep them docile. Also, Eternal Sunshine plays into this part of the storyline (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind?). 🤯
It's so funny how tastes differ. Aurora is one of my favorite ATEEZ songs and that isn't even because Hongjoong produced it - I just like it. I'm sure it could've been produced better if Hongjoong was more experienced in producing (especially at that time). I genuinely enjoy most of ATEEZ's discography, which is why I became a fan. I can't really think of any songs I dislike, especially in the way you dislike Aurora, but I, for some reason, wasn't the biggest fan of the Work EP. I don't dislike any of the songs, but I haven't listened to the majority of them more than, like, twice. Shaboom in particular wasn't of my taste. I enjoy their darker and lighter sounds equally. Some of my favorite lighter sounds are Promise, Eternal Sunshine, and Treasure. Some favorite darker sounds are Halazia, Bouncy, and Wake Up.
If u listen to early ateez or even bsides till now, u can tell that this is ateez! > Those music video is refreshing but the lore is crazy. My fav song is too much, so i will skip it to the least fav: Work, crazy form, dancing butterfly wings, take me home, ( the choreo fire & this is atiny favorite tho'😅) I love the aurora live performance tho' some songs MV not attract me, but when they perform it live, it is became attractive 🤭 i dunno why 😑 just like the Fever medley, i don't like it too at first, but after watch the live i love it❤❤
My least favorite/don't listen to them much I think would be To The beat, The Leaders, Sunrise, One day at a time, Mist? But I don't dislike them at all nor any song of their discography! And I'm surprised you didn't like Aurora bc it's always liked even for non fans and new atinys that some even said it's their favorite Atz song! I think you have to get used to it, at least to not dislike it maybe? But it's not one of my favorites for the chorus, I don't dislike it but the vocal melody and key it's not the best for me, I much prefer the melody and beat of the verses specially the beggining and the raps are my favorite parts!

Illusion was actually a song they made for ua to just enjoy. They told us to not take the song too seriously and just enjoy it. I mean THAT'S ATEEZ!
