Bikers already have to put up with a lot of the inconveniences of riding. They've earned the right to lane split. Let them have just a little something. lol. Otherwise there is no reason to ride their bikes to work instead of taking the car. We could improve the efficiency of our roads and reduce traffic pollution by allowing lane splitting and being more friendly to bikers.

Actually instead of being jealous, they should start riding bike too, less carbon footprint and eventually less traffic. Almost 80% drive big cars with only one person inside. I don't know why people think you're gonna die if you ride a bike.

I would like to see more lane splitting in a courteous and safe manner. I see lots of motorcyclist speeding and swerving yet I never see basic safe, slow and courteous acts of lane splitting to avoid stand still traffic. By the way, Texas has outlawed red light cameras, thus those in power want red light running, so always look left when traffic lights turn green.

Texas needs to make this legal. I don't understand how they think riding side by side is any safer than lane splitting according to their logic. If one, why not the other? Make it legal Texas. Laws definitely need to be changed. Lane filtering is a must for motorcycles, especially in the hot weather months. Cars have air conditioner, motorcycles do not. Plus motorcycles only hold a few gallons of gas compared to cars. As far as lane splitting, I think only in very slow moving traffic, 30mph or lower. I only say this because some motorcyclists would abuse lane splitting which is why we're in this dilemma in the first place.

page 1 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedures says that if you know that following a law is dangerous to you or someone else, it is a crime to follow that law.
A causeless charge is a felony in Texas. A causeless means the charge is for no reason. Nothing was lost, damaged, ....
The California highway Motorcycle Police came out and said that it is safer to lane split then it is to not lane split. They said if you could lane split then you should lane split.
Texas has had YEARS to challenge this in court, it would either have to be in a CA court or in a Federal Court. They have chosen not too.
So it is legal to lane split in Texas. But like I said a causeless charge is a felony in Texas and every judge in Texas is a crooked POS.

Every once and while you’ll get that “A-hole” that want to keep you from going but for the most of the time people are actually really cool. I do anything that would cause harm to them or their vehicle and I don’t lane do splitting with 18 wheelers when they are in a place they could have to swerve, slam on the brakes. I also think lane splitting is done safer when the bike is louder. I’m not saying I wouldn’t do it; I would just be way more cautious with a quieter bike.
But bike life in the south is no joke and lane splitting is a must especially with certain bikes and while riding with certain degrees of safety gear.

I'm pretty sure that riding the emergency lane is illegal everywhere. Lane SPLITTING is traveling between 2 legal lanes of traffic, even in California. This does not include the emergency lane on eithsr side. I believe lane splitting is generally safer if done correctly and there aren't people actively trying to cut you off. No more than 10 miles an hour faster than traffic and NOT exceeding the speed limit. In California, it is also advised not to split between large vehicles like 18 wheelers, dump trucks, buses, etc. If those rules are followed, I think it should be legal everywhere.

Gas and manuals arent a good reason to lane split, cars have that problem too. The only reason and safest way to lane split is at a red light as a start.
Too many motorcyclists use "safety" as an argument to cover their underlying reason of convenience.
If youre not speeding you can brake and predict better. Knowing your surroundings, sun position, being in the right lane position when stopped or slowed. We cannot put the responsibilities on drivers to see us. There are many ways to ride safe without lane splitting.

There is a law saying this is illegal for a reason, it is not safer, it can and does result in some pretty nasty crashes. The rule that is the “legal” way is the bike may not exceed 5mph FASTER than the flow of traffic. Which means at zero you can only do 5mp. In Texas there is a clause that allows lane splitting but it is not at “normal” speeds. Reving the bike makes you an ass,, thinking loud exhaust makes people hear you is stupid and completely against the laws of physics. Your exhaust would need to be in front of the bike not behind.
You haven’t crashed….yet. You will, everyone does.

I’ve ridden bikes for 20 years in Texas. From CBR’s to Indian’s, never lane split, never ridden in the frontage…. If you don’t want to observe our laws, either move to a state that has traffic and allows those acts, or get a car. Quit coming up with every excuse you can imagine to justify your inability to abide our laws.

Or I'll just lane split because I'm not going to cook in 105f and you can leave if you don't like it... Acting like everyone who wants this comes from out of state. I've lived here my entire life and I would love to move at 5-10mph through traffic to stay cool.

@@oni-one574 or you could drive a car with air conditioning in 105f temps. Seems common sense 😂 Motorcycles are not, and have never been intended as a primary means of daily transportation annually… They are a leisure toy, and our state, which I was born and raised in, have not changed our minds on this matter. Instead in September 2023, we made it officially illegal. Keep tarnishing the reputation of motorcyclists, you won’t get sympathy from me when you get hit 🤙🏽

@@yohanthegr8 I have a car, truck, and SUV. Bikes may be toys to you, but to the rest of the world, they are efficient and we need more bikes on the road. Less cars. Especially in Houston where traffic is HOURS long, for no other reason than greed, laziness, and the failure to develop modern mass transit that could connect our cities so much more efficiently and make it easier for commercial vehicles by relieving congestion. No no needs another single person in a large vehicle. You keep saying we, but you are the minority among riders. I don't really care, if you don't like it, cry more about it. We will split, you will wait and do nothing about it.
You literally get no sympathy from anyone else when you get hit sitting in your lane, waiting. No no one cares about you either way. You sound like a Harley rider.

In california, this technique is perfectly legal in the circumstances in which the author describes, lower speed applications. It's legal, because it is statistically safer for the riders. I am uninformed about the legality in houston.

Lane splitting has not been made legal in Texas.
Transportation code adopted in 2015 in Texas states that vehicles should drive completely within a single lane (not between.) And in Texas there are no specific driving laws permitting lane splitting, lane filtering.
    Sec. 545.060. DRIVING ON ROADWAY LANED FOR TRAFFIC. (a) An operator on a roadway divided into two or more clearly marked lanes for traffic:(1) shall drive as nearly as practical entirely within a single lane;
