This is the Battle of the Dolomites, between Italy and Austria-Hungary, in 1916. Both sides deliberately triggered avalanches with their fire, causing many soldiers to be buried under the masses of snow. Greetings from Austria :)

270 soldiers died from one of the avalanches, hitting astro-hungarian barracks, with hundreds dying from multiple other avalanches. dont know where you got this ridiculous number from lol

@@BjarkeDK The one place I've consistently heard the 10k figure was as a high estimate for the total # of soldiers killed via avalanche for the entire month, not specifically the White Friday avalanches.

@@BjarkeDK The 10,000 casualties were the highest known estimate from the White Friday avalanches, but more contemporary analysts believe the actual body count to be approximately 2,000. Still, regardless if the casualties were 2,000, 10,000, or somewhere in between, White Friday was the second worst avalanche related disaster in history.
