I keep recommended tambourine videos after I complained that I'm not very good at it. I appreciate the efforts of this channel because this probably the 4th one I've watched now

I remember as I kid, I wanna play snare drum. Then you get older, there’s not a lot of snare in the pit. Cowbell, shakers, bells, tambourines, marimba, xylophone, tympani. It’s a bit more than Drumsticks and mallets. If you can read music, you’re halfway there…

The tambor in the percussion pit is a special thing, it’s rustly and jingly. More so than a woodblock…

Very true! You have to be well rounded these days to have a career in percussion!

I use sandpaper that I attach to the head with double sided tape. We'll reach out to Stephen and see what he says! Hopefully he can reply here directly :)

I use surfboard wax! It’s similar to your standard beeswax, but I find it a little more tacky, which I need to get the right amount of friction.
Be judicious with it though - too much rosin or wax can actually make rolling more difficult, so you might need to try scraping it off the head and start fresh. A credit card or a stiff plastic scraping tool will do the trick. Hope this helps!
