I like this performance so much, some guitarists play this piece too slow to make it sound more "profound" but it just loses its cohesion. I think the way you play it sounds the best
Carlo Domeniconi is regarded as the most meaningful living composer for guitar. His compositions are regularly performed by the world‘s leading guitarists. He taught guitar at the Berlin University of the Arts in the period of 1969 to 1992, as well as at the Istanbul State Conservatory from 1977 to 1980. After his period in Istanbul, influenced by Turkish native music, Carlo wrote the Suite for Guitar Koyunbaba. The historical Koyunbaba (the Shepherd, the sheepsaint) is a Turkish saint from the fifteenth century who had distanced himself from all secular things and was regarded as someone who knows the Truth. He spent his whole life in silent praying (that’s why he was compared to a sheep). Based on the minimum information about Domeniconi‘s suite that is derived from the composer, and based on some historical facts about Koyunbaba‘s personality, Svetoslav Costoff developed his own concept, his own interpretation about the meaning of this music, which results in the way he plays it. The introductory Moderato paints for us an opening picture of a beach in the middle of a bay, where Koyunbaba makes his silent prayer. The following Mosso is a kind of revelation from the Spirit - Koyunbaba becomes aware of a spiritual world, which then disappears again. The painful Cantabile expresses the greatest suffering of the saint - all that he was longing for and had achieved is now gone. It represents a more intense praying and longing, because his existence on Earth is meaningless without the spirit that he had. The final Presto represents the full revelation of the spirit and the saint`s joy of living with it.
it cost a million fingers of multitasking skills, especially towards the end the " Presto" version.....hearing it is so priceless , high end . The composition is so robust, you cannot hear it once as there are so many nuances heard from several different tones.....this guitarist has his skin in the game 100%. The composer must be proud to hear his composition played so skillfully..., finally we got a substitute for Christopher Parkening.
Well, another great performance by Svetoslav. Very moving and well played. Not just technically proficient; he manages to put real passion into the playing.
What a phenomenal piece of music and a spectacular performance. I have played this piece for many years, listened to dozens of performances and yet there’s always something new every time.
Здравей Костас! Ти ли си? Пуцаки? Много се радвам да си пишем! Често се сещам за забавните години в Музикалната Академия с тебе и Ставрос 😊 Сърдечни поздрави
Wonderfully sensitive performance of a work by Mr Svetoslav Costoff whom I had not heard before. The piece is intensely attractive and Mr Costoff brings out all the nuances perfectly. Thank you SiccasGuitars because you've given the classical guitar a rightful place and classically guitarists an ideal platform to showcase their talents. I've become acquainted with so many new guitarists through your videos. I am doubly grateful because I would otherwise not get such a chance to hear such live performances. Going to listen to him play the Bach Chaconne next. Thanks again, Sakuntala Basu, listening from India
Absolutely SUPERB, BRAVO!!! One of the most intense pieces, both technolocally & emotionally, just absolutely beautiful!!! Stay safe my friends, God Bless!!!
What a nice professional emotional story teller you are Mr. Costoff!!! Congratulations! Felt and understood! I wish I could have the music sheet of your performance.
Hello, very tasty and beautiful performance. This music piece takes me back to the period i lived with a Classical world class guitarist. this master piece he played also on several guitar contest around the world and i could assist his progress and rehearsals daily. He had some very nice concert guitars from Granada, Los Angeles and other masterbuilts , and strings were all over the place. In 1994 he won the international guitar contest of Manuel Ponce in Mexico. Before i had never heard of the music of Carlo Domeniconi also the Anatolian Variation is so beautiful
Ive already heard a few performances of this piece, but this one is by far the best yet. Very expressive, but at the same time not too much like in other recordings it's often the case. Very nice
