    Thank you for your time on this! Back in the day I had a family expensive humminbird unit, down imaging, side imaging, the works. Short story, we had to sell everything and after 6 or 8 years we are trying to get back in it. The unit doesn't work anymore and we ended up buying a canoe, which that unit would have been huge on. We found this little unit, tho it it def isn't a high end unit, seems that it will do the job on a canoe.
    These videos are labor intensive and I appreciate the time and effort you put into it

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 года назад +2

      Funny thing is this unit does more than most people who own the high end units even understand and know how to use. Its all about learning to use what you have to it's fullest....heck the old school greats had flashers only and they crushed big bass.

    Thank you for these videos. I'm new to the fishfinder devices. I went with garmin striker since to me it was a basic fishfinder. Your videos to me has showed me that even the striker is not too basic but helps to better understand all I can do with it. After I kinda out grow and understand this fishfinder I can move on to the fishfinders with bigger screens and features. Thanks again for the step by step tutorial.

    Great video! If you're vertically jigging deep, 40 feet or more, is it safe to say you're using 200 khz and ultrascroll or can you get away with 77 khz and still see your jig or spoon? Thanks.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 года назад

      I prefer the wider beam for jigging, I use the faster scrolls, but a big help is manually adjusting your gain/sensitivity up until you can see your jig. Sometimes the factory setting is not strong enough to pick up the small jig, but a bit of adjustment up and no issues.

      @@1Cast1Fish Thanks for the reply. This is a great help. The best of both worlds is if you can use the wider 45 degree beam and still track the spoon or jig.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 года назад

      In general you want a wider beam anytime jigging...it's easy for a spoon at 40+ ft to drift outside of the narrow cone

    • @browntrout611
      @browntrout611 3 года назад

      @@1Cast1Fish I agree, but I see some videos of vertically jigging for lakers at 70 feet or more with the 200 khz, 15 degree angle. Still I'll take the 77khz, 45 degree cone anytime, and it seems to pick up the same lure with the same clarity as the 200 khz.

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 года назад

      @@browntrout611 so just for reference... @ 40ft the 77kHz cone will cover a diameter of about 32ft or just over 15ft in all directions around the transducer. The 200kHz @ 40ft only covers about 10ft of diameter, or about 5ft in all directions from the transducer...now try and keep your jig within 5ft on a windy day or in current. Now lets say we are in 80ft of water...now the 77kHz covers a diameter of 62ft and the 200kHz now covers a diameter of about 20ft... so a bit more room for drift. Just some things to keep in mind with regard to what beam you choose....hope this clears it up a bit

  • @PhotoAlbert
    @PhotoAlbert 3 года назад

    My brother installed a Garmin Striker 4 fish finder on my pontoon. The transducer is mounted on a bracket on the back of one of the pontoon logs. I understand the concept of the sonar shooting down a cone and how fish are be represented as arcs on the Garmin screen. But if I understand correctly, once you see the full arc it would mean the fish has already moved out of the sonar cone beams. If that is correct, then how do I know how far away the fish are by the time their arcs appear on the screen. I guess I'm just not sure where to fish in relation to what I'm seeing on the screen. If the fish have already moved all the way through the beams then it doesn't seem I should fish directly down from the transducer. But how far out from the trasducer would be best? Or am I just making this too hard?

    • @1Cast1Fish
      @1Cast1Fish  3 года назад +1

      In general you are correct, once you see the full arch, the fish is somewhere outside the cone. As far as how far, it has a lot of variables such as boat speed and direction and fish speed and direction...sonar scroll speed also plays a big part as well.. In general if you are stationary or slowly moving along I like to say that with a mid sonar scroll speed, as long as the arch is not past 1/2 way on the screen it might be within casting distance....this is not scientific or exact, just my mind set.
