I’ve taken a break from Snowrunner to play expeditions. It’s got a brighter color palette and is different enough. It’s nice not dropping dons of cargo and spending all day getting it upright and going again. Just cruising scenic areas with a scout is nice. And I like that expeditions physics seem more stable, less sliding and weird bounces. Alternating between the games keeps it fresh for me.
Unlike most, I’m quite enjoying it. Is it GOTY contender? Unlikely. Is it a chill way to unwind? Yes. I see a lot of people implying that you cannot enjoy snowrunner and expeditions, and that baffles me. Looking forward to them making the UI and menu structure somewhat less awkward though!
Expeditions seems okay for just scouting, if they put all the stuff from both Snowrunner and expeditions into a sequel, or roadcraft, then that’s something to get excited about
Expeditions is a great game for me. But you have to give it a chance. I've already recorded over 165 - 170 hours and I'm enjoying the cave. I want more because I've already finished Snowrunner. I haven't played much DLC, but I like Expeditions more 🙂 But it's true that the base game is weaker than season 1, which did well. Greetings from the Czech Republic.
I don't get the hate about Expeditions. I think it comes from avid snowrunner fans and coming into this game with the wrong expectations thinking this is going to be a similar experience, which it's not. The vehicles drive differently due to the tire air pressure system and different terrains but the game is far more forgiving of mistakes (unlike snowrunner). I love this game and have thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is. I think to really fully enjoy this game you need to get a routine down when starting it, which takes awhile to learn. For me, when starting a new expedition mission, I basically drive around the entire map and scout 100% with the drone specialist to extend your range by like 200, (get all upgrades, repair bridges, rock slides etc.) It's tedious to do this and the most boring part of playing imo just because the drone is so slow, but I try to break it up by completing any tasks that are along the way and that I can finish while scouting, you do learn the map while taking in all the beautiful scenery so by the time you start your 2nd expedition, the whole map is unlocked and all of the airdrops, tasks, contracts are visible every time new ones pop up so it very much minimizes the amount of driving you have to do from then on. And once you can build the base upgrades for the helicopter (so you can teleport vehicles) and the drone pad (for teleporting resources), the game gets much less tedious and more fun imo.
Makes the most business sense to me, get the reception positive then charge for DLC. Or just release free content like Hello Games and No Man's Sky, but that's a rare breed.
I enjoy expeditions and I welcome that they care about improving the game rather than release the content with the current game issues. And I just started playing on September
Held off on Expeditions at first here, picked it up on sale a couple months ago and honestly it's fun, if you like the offroading vibe SR has at times, it's just on a slightly smaller scope with an emphasis on "run what ya brung" setup before setting out. Don't see it overtaking my hundreds of Snowrunning hours here, but I'll defo be picking it up from time to time. The vehicle physics are weightier and generally better than SR too; I find myself missing the physics/handling in Expeditions when going back to SR every time.
Thanks for the info :) I've been really enjoying Expeditions, it's a very different challenge to Snowrunner and the season 1 dlc was really good. Still a lot of bugs, but nothing game breaking, kind of like Snowrunner, haha - I'm very close to completing both (about 1/3 of the Carpathians jobs left, and just about finished S13 in SR), so the delay is a bit disappointing, but I suppose there's always new game +...
Hey Al. Few things have kept me busy and away from the channel, which is annoying but it is what it is. I am attempting a new video series though so that should be fun. Happy trucking!
@ATribeCalledCars ah righto, as long as all is well then, I shall keep a lookout for your new stuff! I'm up to the axles in mud on snowrunner as always and still lovin it 👍 cheers!
Hi Ben, I have been watching you videos and updates for Expeditions. I just got the Snowrunner in which I really like the game a few months ago, so I’m really not that far into it. But, I liked this update videos and seeing how you are more experienced and up to date with Expeditions and you are playing both is Expeditions a good choice to have it as well? Thanks in advance! Happy New Year! 👍😎👍
I’m brave enough to say it, I’ve been quite enjoying expeditions. I’ve found the variation in gameplay to that of snowrunner to be quite refreshing, namely: less focus on muddy boggy roads in exchange for more hills and mountains, more rocks, and a more “find your own path” feel to it. Driving the much lighter scout vehicles through unmarked terrain actually feels quite a lot different and fresh compared to the heavy hauling of cargo through deep mud and snow as in snowrunner. Is expeditions better than snowrunner? No. It’s not. But as a spin-off title I think it has done a good job at introducing some variation to the franchise
Totally agree with your points. It's a different experience and I also like the path finding in smaller trucks. Still really satisfying to watch the trucks tackle everything.
I plan on looping back at some time and playing expeditions more because it was fun in small increments plus they already fixed the single worst part of the game with the ability to skip the mini-games but ui improvements are welcome. I just wish I had a garage and could swap things out if I just wanted one long session of play. It really drains me if I want to complete something that I don’t have a setup for and I need to start completely over for. Maybe the ability to have the game auto equip a set of 4 vehicles for you based on selected tasks and contract you want to complete in a single run would be a really nice quality of life feature
I think they messed up with the target crowd here, all vehicles look cartoonish and futuristic, like its made for kids. It's pretty much the same models from snowrunner for many vehicles which screams low effort and cash grab. The content doesn't really offer anything new if anything in some cases it's even worse than snowrunner. The should kill it fast, and revisit the drawing board.
Expeditions is really good, and if you ask me, NEEDED. At least for those of us who like driving smaller vehicles and rockcrawling and all those shenaningans. So, all in all, good news!
I don't know if you guys remember but I'm pretty sure snowrunner got the exact same hate treatment on release. more on that, after trying expeditions a few months ago i can wholeheartedly say; while the UI sucked, the game was genuinely fun much like snowrunner.
Yes, I wrote it once then updated each time we got updates but never finished it. It is, however, on my main video list so it is happening! Apologies for the delay.
On PS5 co-op is good. Occasional issues, can't select winch-from point on own vehicle but quick-winch still works. Invisible trucks for one player (they can see the lights but nothing else). Slow/unstable menu/map after long session with multiple Expeditions. Nothing a quick restart won't fix. Well worth it for the hilarity of multiplayer carnage. Helipad means you can recover/Heli straight to your friends.
Need better customization, engine swaps, suspension, axles swaps, long travel, body removal options, all the cool stuff we do in real life lol. Cant say its game breaking cause the modded trucks are also lol. If we can do whats in the mod list to the games cars as just a customization option but also keeping it reasonable and not OP where my winch can go 100 yards that would be great and i would consider playing the game legit when it came to doing missions. But spending an hour per mission is wild. For maps unless im not seeing it, would be great if we could customize the sand box one. Big open dune map would be great, a snow one, where we can just go rip it lol. With jumps and all that fun stuff. Would make this game great.
I don't know why but this game just doesn't grab me at all. This is coming from someone who absolutely loves Snowrunner. I've been playing SR off and on since it released.
@ATribeCalledCars That's likely the key with me and I just need to give it more time. I'm also a person who plays games based off what kind of mood I'm in. This is a nitpick thing but I didn't care for the UI much at all and for whatever reason it felt generic and I'm not sure why I felt that. It could be that I went into it with a negative view since it was different from SR. I'll give it another try at some point
If they can license Mercedes for Expeditions, why is there still no Mercedes for Snowrunner? I mean come on man, Unimog or Zetros would be perfect in that game.
I was disappointed when Expeditions first launched. Disappointed that it wasn't some sort of SnowRunner 1.5 or 2.0. Then it came to Game Pass and I thought, "what the hell, let's give it a go". 100hr in, I bought the Y1 ed on Steam. Not as good as SR IMO, but yeah, lots of fun, as long as you keep in mind that it's not SnowRunner. And there are a bunch of things it does well/better than SR, like tyre pressures, push/pull winches, customisable roof racks, etc.
Bringing Mercedes ONLY to Expeditions? That would a massive letdown to pretty much everyone outside Expeditions fanbase (the little there is of it). It would actually fuel hatred even more for this game. So lets hope thats not the case, for everyones sanity. Saber devs have stretched themselves way too thin with all these games, the dev cycle is disastrous already judging by the new release date for S2...
They are too afraid or too lazy to overhaul the terrible phsyics system of mudrunner/snowrunner to make Expedition fun. Basically, the phycis solver only simulates the physics for very particular cases and this is not enough for a game whose selling point is simulative off-road experience.
This game was a massive disappointment to me, played it and found that there is zero need for mudtires ever..... Cuz there is barely any mud in the game lmfao
I constantly keep forgetting that Expeditions even exists, on the other hand, I've got addicted to Snowrunner again.
It's the game that keeps on giving.
guilty of this as well

I played expeditions first, so I’m looking forward to buying snow runner after I finish expeditions
