Karla laid false trails by suppressing files of no value to him so Circus would chase red herrings and allowing Circus to know files that were valuable but could be sac rificed to show Circus it was on the right track. In nowhere Control's or Karla's names are revealed...So in short, rather than M and Q (from James Bond most likely), most probably C ( as has always been for control) and K for his counterpart.. But let's look at the Author's gift to us with all of his treasures that he has left us with... To this date, we still love to read, listen and watch the movies based on his novels! LOVE HIS WORKS.

SPOILER ( comment on the ending)! .. so Jerry was an actual traitor. And for a second time, George ended up ousted. I have not read the books . But I think this sets up Smileys People chronologically. ? I always have an image of Guinness when I listen to these . ❤
Not so much a traitor, but more of a fool. A hopeless romantic who lost his shot over a girl he just met. That’s why the story doesn’t really work for me. That and LeCarre’s constant need to preen and act like the Americans are all fools and the Brits the true intelligence service.
