Conspiracy Theory: Gusto is really the skull but using telepathic powers on a human to talk, pick up items, and consume items. I'm only kidding. Great MRE review sir.
Awesome review ...you articulated your words very well and gave great descriptive details on each food item and also loved the skull as the spoon holder lol ...i subscribed really nicely done.
That would be THE ration to carry on a two-day hike, for sure. Assuming adequate water supplies, of course. BTW, one trick I learned to prevent dry spots in the food is to empty the package into a second container (a ziploc) and add the water to the food pack. Then slowly pour the dried food into the water. Always fully reconstituted that way. Lastly, your editing is perfect.
Rocky Raab thank you sir! And great pro-tip there. That would certainly prevent the dry spots. The editing is something I am constantly working on improving. I currently use the standard iMovie app on my Mac, but may need to upgrade soon.
Just a tip for people backpacking - carry a couple of sizes of binder clips with you, They have all kinds of uses, from chipping things to your pack, holding tent door flaps open, to closing your rehydrating food bag. It really helps keep your hot food warm, especially in cold weather.
Lost my shit at 'You can assume these are Holland oats' best pun I've ever heard. I also like that you paused for a second as if to let the audience process that for a second.
Another great reviewing. That is a lot of calories for a day. I wonder if they were able to eat it all but i guess in those conditions they had too. Just sitting here relaxing and binge watching videos and enjoying;)
I’m still here-however, work has been heavy. I’m an ICU doctor, so life has been pretty taxing and extra time has been limited. I plan on reviewing in the future, and am often active in the live chats on Oldsmokey’s livestreams. Have been working with SafetyOptional’s channel on some side projects. Hopefully see you all soon with more rations.
Subbed! You and Steve have turned into my new RUclips crack. Definitely interested in these cool foreign rations. Excepting maybe the main-heavy Russian rations, they seem to have a lot of extra snacks/spreads you don't get in MREs
Tomas Rizzitano thank you! I agree--the variety in the foreign rations really leaves me wanting more from the US MREs. But as far as stability, longevity, and nutritional balance, US MREs are excellent.
Love this review :) I'm also always suprised a lot of people like our simple foods from the Netherlands. It's lovely and caters to my pride being a Dutchie hehe :) Did you actually know that Oxfam actually deemed the Netherlands to be the world's best in food quality in 2014? I suspect because we use a lot of rules and regulations and try to use as much "real" food as possible instead of artificial flavours and colouring.
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is one hell of A ration !!!! Everything looked great. Glad you were honest on the vitamin , chewable, not. Great review friend, Peace, John.
Thank you for all the work you do RC. I really enjoy your videos. Very informative when building a bug out bag to be used during a zombie attack or Tsunami which ever comes first. LOL
Man! This review makes me want to get my hands on one of those rations. Outstanding! Maybe your wee one can become "The Boss" of your reviews, like Kiwi Dude has. ;)
Awesome review, you did a great job of being prepared in knowing what you had. Definitely a lot of food and would probably have been spread out throughout the day with three main meals and something like three or four small meals between the mains. One thing or two you never used the seasonings which would probably added to the lunch and dinner entrees, personally I love to add pepper to everything.
Cold weather dude, these are used on nordic regions. We had them on NATO NRF operations, very cold regions in Norway and Denmark... So yeah, cold weather = body needs alot of kalories aswell. Oh and yeah we are huge! I am like 1.97meters tall, thats like 6.5"
I am Dutch myself, I can tell you that you can actually get your hands on Dutch MRE's commercially if you look in the right places. Some army dump stores my for example have them, specially if the owner is ex-military as they can get them even after they are no longer in service. I had a few years a very nice MRE that included canned food, typical Dutch stew was in those mostly which tastes amazing for something that you only had to warm up. Sambal is actually a hot paste, not chili sauce at all. There is no real English variant of the name either. It it however spicy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sambal "drop" is black liquorice, it's typical Dutch which is usually for kids. Although there are many variants, from the very salty variants to sweet or specific flavors in between. Honey flavor is for example very useful in case you have a bad cough, like for smokers or for people who have problems with their air ways for example. The salty variants is usually very good to get that bit of salt into your body which you don't really see in MRE's that often. The brown biscuits are basically similar to bread, they serve as a replacement because bread takes a lot of space obviously (out side of expiration dates). If you ever manage to get those again, I would urge you to eat them correctly. With each bite you need to drink water which would make it have a better impact on your stomach. The cacao drink, you could either drink that cold or since it's a winter MRE it may be better to drink it warm. It's a reflection of Dutch culture, in winter we drink that. In summer it's usually a cold variant.
Not sure what you decided you needed to correct him on the sambal as if it is only a Dutch thing but it is Asian in origin and fairly common in the US. It's a chili paste but you could also call it a sauce or a condement if you wish. You can get it at most grocery stores.
@@evilactions1749 he never said its limited to the Dutch. However the Indonesian culture has had a major impact on the dutch cuisine. There are many types of sambals in asia, the indonesian types are in some countries pretty hard to find, however, you can find asian styled hot sauce everywhere.
There is a saying about the Dutch soldier, stating that "the Dutchman is no soldier, he has to be at home in time for dinner." Now you know why this MRE is so...so...let's say...so good'n'tasty... It has to be, to keep the boys in the front line ;) ...
Have you ever run into anything in a ration that you really hated? And if so what did you end up doing with it? I've watched a lot of vids from you and Steven1989 and it seems like MRE reviewers are more adventurous than the average person.
WashableTowel yep. I learned quickly! I might try to eat the other one for a few giggles. Maybe I'll do it on Facebook live or in a Gusto Bloopers video. That would be awesome.
Hey gusto I was wondering, where did you get that burn on your arm? Glad you are trying a dutch Ration I was wondering what our army eats in arctic conditions Keep up the outstanding job
So many mistakes when you prepared the ration you need to put the two bags of stuff in tho each other heat it up wait 4 minutes and you have the best breakfast in the field and leave it in the bag, those fruit biscuits is like money in the marine corps if you have many of the fruit biscuits you have power but for the rest I like the review ! Greetings from the Dutch marines
Wow, for someone like me who's just sitting around in a chair the entire day, this amount of calories would almost be enough for three days actually. It's almost triple the amount of calories recommended for a man with very low activity and average weight. Did you eat it all in one day? Go stand on the scale :)
Fort Dix in 1987 (Mar) Cold as hell. For lunch I was the lucky sob to have the dehydrated pork patty with apple sauce. Who in the hell would package on purpose a cold dehydrated pork patty with apple sauce. Instead of gum, they should have packed Ex-lax instead.

Undisclosed Analogy I agree. Essentially you get MRE mains and MRE components x3. It doesn't blow your hair back in any way despite being functional and reliable.
Dren 9999 it depends. This one was so massive that I couldn't possibly eat it all. I filmed this over the course of a full day, ate the mains as my meals for the day, shared he snacks with my kids, and set aside the extras for later use. I usually eat most of the mains in the items I review so food doesn't go to waste.
Dren 9999 he eats a lot of the stuff he shows, unless it's the really dodgy stuff. We kinda have similar guidelines for eating stuff. The eye/nose test is the most important. That guy truly has a passion for this stuff and is incredibly knowledgeable. Plus he's just a great dude.
RC Gusto thinks like the apple flakes you eat the applesauce whit the patato stuff and the bouiloin is something to drink at 4 o'clock not in the morning
RC Gusto oh, I just came up with a idea. stock up on chocolate from rations and compare them all on Valentine's day or some other holiday that people give out chocolates and stuff.
Best ration yet, provided you're not on a diet. I lived in Holland for 6 years and like the way they worked in two Dutch obsessions - liquorice and hot chocolate. Zoute Drop (salty liquorice) is highly addictive, so it's good they just put it into a mentos form.

Austin Hughes certainly more variety. This is a specialty ration, being a cold weather pack. Still larger than I would have expected. There is not a US 24hr cold ration. 3 MCWs would add up to about 4000Cal
Thank you for the lovely words about our army rations greetings from the netherlands
those holland oats, though... a real man-eater.
oldDragon Dude yes!!!!!! Someone got it!
oldDragon Dude I can't go for that, no-no.
RC Gusto thumbs up ,,,,! ")

Alcho The Stranger now I'm gonna have that song stuck in my head, haha
Conspiracy Theory: Gusto is really the skull but using telepathic powers on a human to talk, pick up items, and consume items. I'm only kidding. Great MRE review sir.
Onyx The Gaming Machine you may be onto something.
RC Gusto OH NO! LOL
Awesome review ...you articulated your words very well and gave great descriptive details on each food item and also loved the skull as the spoon holder lol ...i subscribed really nicely done.

RC Tanks & Trucks 24/7 thanks for that! I sincerely appreciate it

Na, Ration Sampler/taster.
That was awesome! Great review. Looks like they know how to feed their troops. Really cool choices available for the meals also.
Ol' Mate Dropbear this one was amazing. Easily my favorite ration to date. I wish it was easier to find.
With my insane insomnia these help, ur voice is so calming
This definitely looks like a great ration.
oldsmokey absolutely. This one was fantastic!
Just a tip for people backpacking - carry a couple of sizes of binder clips with you, They have all kinds of uses, from chipping things to your pack, holding tent door flaps open, to closing your rehydrating food bag. It really helps keep your hot food warm, especially in cold weather.
To clamping an arterial bleed.
If you ad an artery in the right place, it would work for that too. I love binder clamps!
Very interesting and nice review. Your voice is mellow. Been under some stress lately and your reviews are nice.
chris Johnston awesome. I tell my friends they are great if you can't get to sleep. I tent to be a bit monotone. Thanks for watching!
That is a lot of food dude!! I have got to stop watching these reviews when I am hungry!
Off to the kitchen.
Thank you pause button....
Admiral Preparedness massive pack. Awesome stuff
I learned my lesson. I only watch them when I'm eating a meal, otherwise I'll be eating a meal halfway through it.
i watch these videos all day long and its just relaxing. my history has one long line of these videos.
That ending was perhaps the best ration review ending of all time. Nothing beats the voice of a child.
Nice to know that a lot of these products are just from a supermarket
Wow really nice treat sir , lots of food excellent review everything looked great 👍
Fmlyman 1012 it was an outstanding pack. Awesome food
Lost my shit at 'You can assume these are Holland oats' best pun I've ever heard. I also like that you paused for a second as if to let the audience process that for a second.
CharlieHotel2 I'm so glad that was appreciated! Thanks!
Dude I was doing paperwork and read that and shot orange juice out of my nose. It was the greatest.
Ardiem nice!
Holland oats? Holland oats? Oh, I get it now. You just have to say it fast. :-)
Wait...since when did did doctors start to develop a sense of humor. This has never happened before.
28:30 Drop literally means licorice actually, you can buy them in a lot of stores in the Netherlands
hall and oates....ha....haha.
Gren Moyo sorry...couldn't resist!
They certainly don't skimp on the portions, do they?
Good job Gusto! Enjoy the reviews!
Another great reviewing. That is a lot of calories for a day. I wonder if they were able to eat it all but i guess in those conditions they had too. Just sitting here relaxing and binge watching videos and enjoying;)
Really enjoyed this and such a cute ending. So cool that you donate what you make to St Judes thats awesome:)
Love how you organize and edit your video... new sub right here!! Xo
I really miss your videos on here. Will you ever be back for a review? I wish you the best no matter what though.
I’m still here-however, work has been heavy. I’m an ICU doctor, so life has been pretty taxing and extra time has been limited. The Philippine Commentator Republic thank you!
Oh man... I HAVE to get one of these now! Awesome review once again!
BTemple this was a fantastic ration. Highly recommended.
I think one of them has been put aside for me ;)
Love this review :) I'm also always suprised a lot of people like our simple foods from the Netherlands. MultiMagnum62 it surprised me. Vigorous fizzing there. Thanks for watching as always!
Thank you for all the work you do RC. I really enjoy your videos. Very informative when building a bug out bag to be used during a zombie attack or Tsunami which ever comes first. LOL
Jon Pulicicchio I really appreciate your support. More to come soon! It's been a busy week.
Man! This review makes me want to get my hands on one of those rations. Outstanding! Maybe your wee one can become "The Boss" of your reviews, like Kiwi Dude has. ;)
MsKestrela nah...that's his gig. My daughter was just watching me finish up the shoot and wanted to say the closing.
I'm still waiting on the freeze dried Filet Mignon and Lox. When is that ration coming?
I love that an arctic ration comes with ice chewing gum, but holy hell that is a substantial MRE.
Another great review! Keep sending them our way!
Kristin A will do. Cool stuff coming soon...some things Steve sent me
God bless you my friend. Stay safe and health good nan.
10:32 lol :) Good thing you didn't just bite down and crush a whole tablet at once. That would've been interesting! :)
Synthpeter I might do that with the other one just for the fun of it. Maybe on Facebook live
watching your videos makes me hungry! keep with the good job :)
The amount of calories is probably that high also because dutch people are the largest in the world, that accounts for a lot of calories.
Cold weather dude, these are used on nordic regions. We had them on NATO NRF operations, very cold regions in Norway and Denmark... So yeah, cold weather = body needs alot of kalories aswell.
Oh and yeah we are huge! I am like 1.97meters tall, thats like 6.5"
Kiwani not to mention in a field environment its not uncommon to burn 5000+ kcals a day
Thats true
Alexander van Arem heh I know where I need to move now. I love cold weather and have an extreme weakness for tall men.
Its made to break down into 4 meals every 6 hours, with sugar snacks every 3 hours. Real cold weather conditions are brutal on the body.
Great review, awesome ration!
D2ezbmu thank you!

wow this is impressive and it has plenty of coffee! Love this one

SaberViper I can't stand the chicken with noodles MRE. See the hot knife video. I also wasn't a fan of the ground sausage in the Russian prison ration
I forgot about the hot knife video...I suppose that answers the "what to do with rations you don't like", haha!
Dont know if it has been mentioned yet. The Vitamin tablet is supposed to be put in water. It will sizzle and mix in the water
oops was too soon.
WashableTowel yep. I learned quickly! I might try to eat the other one for a few giggles. Maybe I'll do it on Facebook live or in a Gusto Bloopers video. That would be awesome.
Hey gusto
I was wondering, where did you get that burn on your arm?
Glad you are trying a dutch Ration I was wondering what our army eats in arctic conditions
Keep up the outstanding job
Here come Dat boi it's a birthmark. Thanks for watching!
the multivitamin is supposed to dissolve in water not to be chewed on
Cedric Jongeneelen yep. I figured that out...it was pretty funny.
lol , our neighbur holland guys do love their food , holy balls , so much food for an MRE
do you also gonna find a do the belgian one ?
28:56 What was that sound in the background?
Wolf KOTTO one of my kids
Oh
Best ration I ever seen.
I've been meaning to ask... What's the diagonal thing in your measuring jug?
So many mistakes when you prepared the ration you need to put the two bags of stuff in tho each other heat it up wait 4 minutes and you have the best breakfast in the field and leave it in the bag, those fruit biscuits is like money in the marine corps if you have many of the fruit biscuits you have power but for the rest I like the review ! Greetings from the Dutch marines
Yeah, I didn't think the way he ate this was very realistic.
great review. seems that some of the items are from/ produced in germany.
OMG Holland Oates !!! Made me comment dammit! On a side note this MRE looks huge! Is this for one person?
Not Applicable yes. Single person 24hr Ration...and it is massive!
That is a huge ration! I could see that as a two day ration in most circumstances.
Kevin Baker absolutely. Normal conditions, this could easily be a two man or two day ration
Wow, for someone like me who's just sitting around in a chair the entire day, this amount of calories would almost be enough for three days actually. It's almost triple the amount of calories recommended for a man with very low activity and average weight. Did you eat it all in one day? Go stand on the scale :)
Synthpeter I didn't eat all of it, but this is all I had to eat that day. I weigh 151 this morning.
It might be good to create the mushroom bouillon and then use that to make the chicken vegetable dish from lunch. Yumm.
Best.Music.Pun.Ever!
Cheryl Muffin glad it was well received!
Nice review. Some of these international countries really know how to do an MRE.
richfrid no kidding. This thing was awesome
I would love to try this rasion whare would I get one never seen this one before thank u 😀
Louise Smith unfortunately, this one is quite hard to find and therefore tends to be pretty expensive when it does become available. It's occasionally found on eBay.
America needs more 24 hour packs filled with tons of goods. The old first strike rations suck compared to other countries 24 hour ones.
Undisclosed Analogy I agree. Essentially you get MRE mains and MRE components x3. It doesn't blow your hair back in any way despite being functional and reliable.
RC Gusto I bet the farts after a few mres do though!
He took the 'drop' Mentos *and* he didn't gag on it! I'm Dutch and I always thought the 'drop' Mentos was better not talked about.
this seems like an awesome ration, it could feed me for 2-3 days easily
Scott Roberts absolutely. It was well over 5000kcal. Awesome food too
So much food! Who has time to eat all of it.
Is that a mark on your arm ?
derp
The fruit muzzle and the oatmeal are mixed together for a bigger breakfast unit
These include Hall and Oates??
I wonder were i can buy one
dustin hill at one point you could get one on surplusandoutdoors.com, but they are now out of stock
Thank you for all the help
question. do you eat all the food in these MREs or do you toss them away?
Dren 9999 it depends. This one was so massive that I couldn't possibly eat it all. I filmed this over the course of a full day, ate the mains as my meals for the day, shared he snacks with my kids, and set aside the extras for later use. I usually eat most of the mains in the items I review so food doesn't go to waste.
Ah okay.i've always wondered this question the same with steve mre 1989
Dren 9999 he eats a lot of the stuff he shows, unless it's the really dodgy stuff. We kinda have similar guidelines for eating stuff. The eye/nose test is the most important. That guy truly has a passion for this stuff and is incredibly knowledgeable. Plus he's just a great dude.
Nice to see that you enjoy the dutch meals !! too bad that the didn't give you the right instructions !!!
Nick's Gaming channel what instructions were incorrect? The vitamin?
RC Gusto thinks like the apple flakes you eat the applesauce whit the patato stuff and the bouiloin is something to drink at 4 o'clock not in the morning
Nick's Gaming channel gotcha. Thanks for the intel.
Tasty looking ration....
I prefer the cold weather rations for the long shelf life.
Charles Hodge me too. Also, the freeze dried items just taste better
this looks like an older version. what it past its date?
Wander Milder 2015 production date
10:34
don't forget the chewable vitamin.
*puts in mouth
OHHHHH GOD, THE FIZZY NESS.
*takes out of mouth
I take that back it wasn't chewable.
oh yeah gusto where's that Ranger pudding?
my name is messed up ? Yes...I edited the screaming out. Ranger pudding soon. I promise
RC Gusto oh, I just came up with a idea. stock up on chocolate from rations and compare them all on Valentine's day or some other holiday that people give out chocolates and stuff.
my name is messed up ? That's a good idea.
so do you just add hot boiled water for the mains?
rmk games yes.
You should put chocolate beverage powder in the oatmeal porridge with some suger believe me it's heaven
Best ration yet, provided you're not on a diet. I lived in Holland for 6 years and like the way they worked in two Dutch obsessions - liquorice and hot chocolate. Zoute Drop (salty liquorice) is highly addictive, so it's good they just put it into a mentos form.
Karl P the chocolate items in this ration were amazing. That cocoa was incredibly rich.
Karl P well you need to love the "drop" most people dont like it
SKRWildfire. Ha ha, yes, an aquired taste to be sure, but I haven't seen so much liquorice consumed as in my time in Holland.
Karl P where did you live
SmoKingPackRaT. Melbourne
That holland oates crack just got me to sub
Nice! I hope you enjoy my vids. I will be producing more soon. Had to take a bit of a hiatus due to work.
☠⭐ Good Stuff ⭐
CAT G.Blondecat thank you!
Holland Oats. nicely done
J Allen *insert rimshot
Just wanted to ask, what do you do for a living?
Purvi Shah I am a critical care physician
Nice gusset... I actually laughed out loud when you put the fizzy vit in your mouth (Thank goodness it wasn't the whole one, well recovered, I suppose USA doesn't have effervescent vitamin tablets?). It seems weird to have muesli AND porrage, maybe it breaks down better into four meals so troops can maintain function/blood sugars and carbs in arctic weather?
Is your skull sidekick genuine?
Katherine Lu yes it is.
Maybe the water requirements aren't a concern based on it being a cold weather ration, and therefore a high likelihood of snow?
Joe Morrell you're correct
When you taste an mre do you eat it all? Also great review as always!
Walton Kcats it depends. This one was so massive that I couldn't possibly eat it all. I filmed this over the course of a full day, ate the mains as my meals for the day, shared he snacks with my kids, and set aside the extras for later use. I usually eat most of the mains in the items I review so food doesn't go to waste.
Thanks! Great video again!
Walton Kcats of course! Thank you for watching!
Never use yellow snow to rehydrate your main and biscuit browns are designed to stop you pooping on the battle field! Very generous Rat Pack though!
Is that a toothpaste? Rolly?
Do you use boiling water to rehydrate the food
Karl Ezepek yes. I have an electric kettle off camera
That is one stacked MRE, and this is just for cold-weather? Honestly this kind of MRE could be used in any kind of situation, this one pack could sustain several people in a survival situation. Especially in the winter season during blizzards, this would be THE MRE to have on hand if needed.
Yes
I try any kind of mre from anywhere in the world I live in Cherryville BC Canada
one of your best
Austrian Prepper thank you!
Hey rc gusto it seems to me that the international rations have more food/items.Than the U.S. rations.
Austin Hughes certainly more variety. This is a specialty ration, being a cold weather pack. Still larger than I would have expected. There is not a US 24hr cold ration. 3 MCWs would add up to about 4000Cal
You are a Dad! 😃congrats!
Jörg Schimmer yep...two little girls. They're pretty awesome!
Thank u 😀
You should put the apple flakes on the porrage
mobilegoat1 that's a good idea!
Hey, that's pretty good!
This is for 24 hours !?
Luke Paul yep
oooh, Drop Mentos? sign me UP.
