I always get filled with hope when mack gets sent a review copy
Maybe the devs will actually watch this and fix Mack's hotas problem. Or they could call a doctor for that : p.
And then he rips it a new one...
you mean determination?
u gotta be a good dev to do it and have ballz.
People are more likely to give a good review when they didn't pay for their copy. When it is a gift from the publisher. Basic psychology.
On the PC version of the game if you go into that paint mode you can also order a 3D printed model of your ship.
Well that sounds interesting. But then again its all the default ships. Would be more persuasive if one could get the capital ships like in Rebel Galaxy. Although then there would be continuity issues if the female mc can actually get them in game.
Soy One . Best Ship Name of 2019 Confirmed.
Plot twist, they mostly deliver Steak's and Protein Shakes.
@@flippedoutkyrii protein shakes are soy and other plant shit based, stick with the steak and add a ton of animal fat
@@flippedoutkyrii I love steak.
tfw when all the protein in steak is from "plant shit."
I don't buy epic store exclusives. I'll check back when its on Steam.
Datek yep 👍
Same at least on the bright side these devs weren't as evil as the other ones about their exclusivity.
@ANTS ON MY WIENER Regardless of the fact it makes them more stable and allows them to put more money into the game and polish it. Which is exactly what these devs did for RGO.
@Mi Ke This baffles me. Can anyone explain the hate towards epic? who gives us free games all the time?
@@simsimmauk7587 Epic created a seed bed for game exclusives culture on PC. That's *inconvenience* forced down your throat, just like microtransactions. No one with half a brain wants that, no free game is worth that.
Looks like fun. And the cool thing is, this will have a year's worth of patches by the time I'll get around to playing it :P
...and it'll be cheaper by then too :-)
@MrClassiccarenthusia Bought it straight away form the Epic store. Have fun not enjoying yourself for zero reason.
@@Malc180s They've been deleting peoples games from their libaries for zero reason so enjoy it while you still can.
@@Malc180s Enjoy the game but don't be a douchebag. People have reasons not to use the Epic store, you just don't agree with them.
@@Malc180s Oh, did you get the game for free for shilling for Epic? Enjoy your Chinese spyware!

Thanks to Tim Swiney i will be able to play a "Free Review Copy" in the mean time until the actual release ;)

@@freduncle9999 funny, everyone hated Steam back in 2004, it was physical or GTFO. Oh, how times change.
Russians are spying on you anyway even if you ignore Epic Store.
@@algernonflowers2889 iirc correctly everybody hated steam because it was quite genuinely terrible back in the day. But as far as I'm aware steam has never payed publishers to not use other distribution methods.

Me - "Bye"
Everyone else - *doesn't care*
Basically. Ion Fury is coming out in a week anyway. I'll be playing it.
Me - I'll wait a year for steam, it''ll be cheaper, it'll have more updates, and it may have a dlc by then. No loss.
Why the hell does everyone want games right when they come out? Is it for the funny bugs?
Yep, next year this will be optimized, patched, and have more content, AND I won't have to screw around with Yet Another Storefront that is terrible and clunky.
When whiny internet outrage keeps you from supporting developers......because exclusives.....but youll still buy games with micro transactions...
Those station/ship dealer/computer shots and the guilds, station options, ship display, nav map etc. remind me so much of Wing Commander Privateer..

buyin it on epic store is actually supporting the devs more since they only eat up 13% of their income vs steam whom eats 30%. I dont exactly trust epic with my card details but i figured it was worth the risk
@@Susikohmelo They are getting guaranteed sales by Epic whether or not you buy it on Epic. So you may as well pick it up on Steam or GOG, which will then net money from both Epic and the Steam sale. Also supporting Epic's exclusivity nonsense is terrible for us consumers in the long run if we keep letting them get away with this shit.

I'm an American and I've never referred to pool as "8 ball" in my life
Yeah, in America its "pool".
@Benjamin Matthews Ahhh, I'm one of those people referred to in that article that thought there was only one way to play pool. Now I know
Yeah we call it "pool" Ben. As you say it's just a type of pool. Like Texas Hold An is a type of Poker.
If an American utters the words "8 ball" you know they are about to buy coke.
"Let's play 8 ball on an 8 ball table at an 8 ball hall with an 8 ball stick" said no American ever...
It's always labeled "pool hall" or a few fancy places will have a sign that says "billiards". And as even your wiki article points out: "the game is so universally known in some countries (USA) that beginners are often unaware of other pool games and believe the word "pool" itself refers to eight-ball."
If anyone blanket says "let's play some pool" in America, 99.9% of everyone will rack it for 8 ball style play automatically.
We owned a pool table ever since I was 7, I'm 55, never once have I heard the sport called 8-ball either... Just Pool..
as a former pro pool player i've heard it called pool. 8-ball is just a kind of pool game like straight pool, 9-ball, 6-ball, one-pocket etc etc. Also it bugs me the way she is holding her stick lol but i can't wait to try it out.
Love and miss Freelancer, this looks really enjoyable! Great review Mack!
Looks great. Like a streamlined space game trying to keep it more simple than the in-depth ones. I'll be sure to get it on Steam or GOG once the exclusivity BS is over.
Pretty cool feature I found while researching this game was that can they send you a model of your actual ship (paint job and all), then i also realized it was an epic exclusive...
Looks like a good game, pity that it doesn't come out on PC for another year....
You mean Steam. Epic is a PC platform :D
@@Wolfeisberg It's coming to Windows this Tuesday. Windows is an operating system, not the PC.
@@Wolfeisberg chill out dude, it is a joke. Besides, I am conciously deciding to ignore Epic as this kind of tactic to ensure exclusivities is totally anti-consumer and their store is absolute crap. So yeah, for me, it will launch in a year, when I will buy it either on Steam or GoG. Have a nice day and apologies if my joke ruffled your feathers :D
@@Wolfeisberg true, I was looking at it in a bit different way, meaning it is not actually coming to PC, because you cannot play it if you are a Linux/Mac user. Meaning for me to acknowledge that it is coming to PC (under PC meaning Windows, Mac and Linux), it would be incorrect to say that the game is coming to PC this Tuesday.
But from your point of view (which is: if you can somehow achieve to play it on PC, that means it is coming out on PC) yeah, you are correct, it is coming to PC this Tuesday.

why does it matter what store its on, is everyone really that loyal to steam. @@gogista
@@Nathan-bf7mt There are many videos on the topic why EGS is bad, but it basically comes down to:
- Security issues (Epic currently faces a class action lawsuit for sharing credit card info as a result of security flaw, which they didn't fix for two freaking months)
- Exclusivity bullshit (On PC, the option which store to use was always up to the user, now Epic is forcing you to use their store by making exclusivity deals. If we don't submit to this tactic and won't buy exclusive games there, it will go away and give the choice back to the customer)
- Lack of features (No shopping cart, no wishlist, no user reviews, bad customer service)
- No Linux support (I know this seems less important to you Windows guys, but just remember the time when Windows 8 wanted to lock down all software purchases to their store. Also, Linux-based operating systems are their core better than Windows, with more customization and better security. Not to mention, Linux gaming is on the rise, with quite a few AAA games outperforming Windows.)
Nathan i bought it on epic, the big issue i have is that I can’t stream it to my livingroom with steam and still have good controller support.

For someone who has such strong opinions about the current state of gaming, telling us to "not cry" and "get over it" is a bit much. No harm done though. Just saying :) Whether it's game stores or sports, I am not a fan of 'Exclusive'. The word says to me, "we paid more to reduce your choice and force you to support our platform".
I hate exclusivity too but tbh steam has had the PC monopoly for too damn long. Competition is good for the customer and the developers too. I'd rather deal with this exculive bullshit than give more money to the reseller companies
I've been following this game a long time waiting for it to come to switch. I'm so happy to hear you like it Mac, we both have similar taste in game so your input means a lot.

@@paulturner6834 Why? there are hundreds of games he can play while he waits, when the game comes to steam it will be fully patched out, maybe even have some dlc's out, it will be on his platform of choice, and probably on a discount. There are more games than I have time to play them, I'm not losing any sleep over epic exclusives, I'll check them later, maybe. I'm not buying them from epic though
@Roenie it's not the devs i want to say fuck you to, it's epic, they won't see a penny from me
I liked the firt one. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they script things like ambushes etc. always right in front of you when you were flying in travel speed. So I always had swing from left to right, right to left so they would spawn in front and I could fly past the encounters.
Hope that isn't in this game too.
Nah, Epic treats me like competition instead of a customer, not giving them a penny.
This. All of this.
Do you at least take the free games? If not then maybe get yourself checked : p
another one that doesnt understand the business of a game platform. How do you expect Epic to get entry into such a market without appealing to game publishers to release on their platform. Catch 22 situation.
You don't get it. You aren't Epic's customer. Both Epic and Steam provide a service and their customers are the game publishers. Stop pretending that Valve gives a shit about you. They are selling access to you.

off topic about elite down time: i love that concept a lot HOWEVER the whole point of downtime is for you to hang in your ship doing whatever, looking through a side window anything which ofc you can't do & you won't be able to in the upcoming expansion either

Sounds like Freelancer. Gonna grab this when it comes out. Thanks for the review!!
Yep Tuesday can't come fast enough. So few good space games coming out these days. I want to support the Dev for helping to give us the spiritual successor to Freelancer.
I'm leaning towards the Switch version.
I have wanted a game like this for a long time. Something where I can essentially play Lando, except maybe I only look like him in my mind.
Oh BTW Mack, we call it "pool" mostly here in the US. 8 Ball is a specific game within Billiards. We have all those names too. Pool is just slang for Billiards and 8 Ball is a particular game within lots of other pool games using the same table, balls, and sticks but different rules. Always cool to get the UK take on things though.
I stuck around for the full review and I'm really interested in this game. Can't wait to play it.... next year.
i would download this right now if it was on steam... oh well.
Do you not release PC gaming needs competition in Marketplaces? I welcome EPIC. Microsoft, Origin, Battlenet etc coming to the table as it stops Valve from effectively price fixing.
Well you get it cheaper and better (bugs fixed, all game updates within a year), so don't worry.
@Andy Clifft They don't though. If that was true, there would be many non-exclusive games on the Epic store as well. I can't name one. All games that are there are there thanks to making a lucrative contract with EPIC. Don't get me wrong, I totally get it, hell if I was an indie dev, (from purely business perspective) I would end up taking the Epic deal as well. But as an end user, I'm afraid I have the right to decide to not buy the game on Epic Shame Store if I don't like their business practices.
@@paulhenricksen5728 why have exclusivity on pc at all?
@Andy Clifft well i remember them saying they would pass on savings and they haven't at all. Microsoft allows for games to be owned on xbox and pc so it serves a purpose. Origin has excellent customer service. Battle.net used to just be wow if i recall correctly.

Another great review Mack. Let me send you another HOTAS as a back up in case you run into the same issue in the future.
So this game went on sale on steam and of course, I look for reviews before I buy and bamm, saw your video. Of course I clicked on it because I love your views on games usually and the first thing I see is my comment from over a year ago. No, I didn't buy it on Epic. In fact, I haven't purchased ONE game on Epic as I can't stand the way they do business or treat gamers. And a year later, their storefront still sucks and you still can't leave game reviews, which is my main go-to on deciding whether to purchase a game. I actually hated reading my comments from a year ago as they seem so harsh, even though they are true. Then I read them again. And again. All still true. Then I think about your review of the game and yep, purchasing it on steam based on how much fun you had. The main thing I took away is that the developers could have had a bigger hit if they let people buy it where they want based on reviews like yours here. Thought you might like to have an update a year later and know that I still bought a game based on your review...I just had to wait a year, lol. AND I saved a ton of money too, getting it on sale for $10.19 instead of full price, which I would have happily payed on launch day on steam. Cheers.
"Doesn't work with my hot-az" - Mack 2019
Great game, shame it releases next year on discount... Or shame so many people will try before buying it with the online "permanent rental" option because they refuse to support epic games in any way shape or form. The game could of been great, but this epic deal is going to epically ruin the popularity. Devs seem pretty awesome and released a pretty legit game though, which is rare these days.
It doesn't matter to the dev if people permanently rent the game and maybe buy it on sale on steam because the epic deals usually cover all expected sales so if the game underperforms due to the epic store the dev still gets paid and they know they'll get a massive influx once they can go to steam
Damn shame it's an Epic Exclusive. Looks like it might be fun!
Got it recently and it has that 'Firefly' vibe to its story arc. Cool combat but I need money!
Fun is the meant to be the fundamental building blocks of any game, after all IT'S A A GAME and games are meant to be fun. Been watching this for a little while was waiting for the Mack review, "sold" ...that would be the first game bought in over 2 years, well done Mack saving us gamers thousands of greenbacks.
It's clear Rebel Galaxy Outlaw is based off of Privateer, primarily. The question is, how does its gameplay improve on a 25-year-old template beyond adding mini-games and a few ships? How has RGO evolved past the Privateer gameplay loop of doing missions, upgrading components and ship, rinse and repeat? At some point there was a mention of buying an asteroid or something, but it wasn't really expanded upon to determine whether there's more gameplay beyond the usual, or if it's just part of the scripted story.

I loved the first one. Want to play more like it -- i bought Freelancer back in the day but then never played -- is it available anywhere still -- and if so is it worth going back to?
Elite seemed a little "too sim" for me.
This game needs VR mode.
ED is as deep as a puddle, if you want the best space game out there then anything from egosoft will blow it away.
For years i war searching for a game similar to Freelancer and i discovered a game that's better callers Starpoint Gemini Warlods, not only does it have most of the features of Freelancer but adds quite a lot more like base building, squad management, directional shields, 4 special weapons, squadron, teleport on enemy ships and so on.
The alien you're playing pool with is like Abe and JarJar had a baby.
Looks good, reminds me of Freelancer that I really liked. Kinda sux that it comes out in over a year.
It's called pool in the US as well. 8-ball a type of game in pool, as is 9-ball.

Nice to see Mac having a good time again.
I was looking for the exploration aspect in the game, but I think I could not see such here. Maybe the game is more a looter shooter with a story? Or were the kills only for $$$?
Listening to the dev of this narrate his gameplay it's clear he's got a lot of experience in, and spirit for, the classics of this genre. I've almost got enough saved up for the Durston and then the pirates are going to get a galactic whooping while I listen to the classical radio! 🤣 The radio works well for the worldbuilding too: hearing about the base you can buy, then finding out it's actually in that system, was delightful. I also want to take a closer look at Evochron Legacy. 🤔 I wonder if Mack has played the Evochron games. Looks like another dev who's keeping that spirit going: classic space action on modern systems.
I really wanna play this game, but I'm scared to make an Epic account just due to security concerns- when I first made an account to play fortnite with my nephew, I got like 32 unauthorized access attempts in like 2 days. Has it gotten better since fortnite first came out, or is it still risky?
Didn't the devs say that once you have bought the game on epic you can play without the epic launcher running? IE launch from folder or different shortcut.
I watched a ton of videos about this game. What i would add to the list of negatives:
- Childish choice of colours. It looks like a LSD trip is supposed to look.
- The Star Systems are meant to be "hand crafted" but they all look the same. The only variations are the Asteroids that are sometimes debris or ice. And the color of the sun. No points of interest. Remember Freelancer and flying through a thick nebula? Or those sectors with crazy suns or even a black hole? Nothing like that in this game
- I still remember when people complained in Freelancer that the auto-generated Missions are boring. In this game the streamers barely seem to do anything different, because earning money seems to be mandatory(and not part of the main story). Doing tons of boring rng missions are clearly a downside to me. Hopefully mining, trading and exploration will be fun.
