Before this, I dismissed the PRB as comfy and familiar and safe, but that's only because what they did became not only accepted but standard for art. An eye-opening series, via the Beeb.

I identify with Ruskin, I can definitely see myself in a passionate geologist who has yet to consummate his 5 year old marriage.

Crazy to see how they were doing what the Impressionists 10 years before Monet or Cezanne

True to Nature and True to Life - A Revolutionary Realism which rivals Impressionism. Ruskin was all about the grandeur of nature.. that means packing up and going outdoors, rather than ruminating in a studio

There is so much meaning in art before Modern art or Abstract art ... just my opinion

Thank you for sharing this and I'm glad that PRB paintings get this attention. But, the documentary itself is not very good. For one it's loud, literally the mix of music and voices are disparate and often disrupt the beautiful paintings they show; they are also very bold and shrieking in leads (example 27:38). But perhaps most importantly, it's over-sensationalized. For a movement that valued truth above all else, it's sad to see an homage to them that is structured this way.

Well said. I watched it for the paintings, but the noise and the ridiculous assumptions. But at least Ophelia being in a bath explains why she is in such a silly position. Always bugged me.

6:00 (and elsewhere) What utter balls. But I guess she has to justify her grant and 70k salary.
Ophelia is, in fact, a metaphor for alienation of the the post-industrial television-documentary watcher in her lounge, in a dazed semiconsciousness as she is slowly drowned by the rising tide of pointlessly intrusive and overwhelming bloody music. Now when do I get my grant?

Oh yes, at 20:01, the "anxiety of the lost sheep!', Now I see it! Shoot, if she hadn't educated us, we may have missed the nugget of edification! Just look at her face, now I'm sure you can see she's saying to herself, 'well, they ain't going to buy that, what else can I come up with?!" What malarkey!

Madam, 6:00...You read too much into a work of art! Your job is to give information, i;e, Who, What, Where and When! Not to try and humiliate the artist or our intelligence, by informing us to the REAL direction of the water!

    • @inessladia5747

Please restrain yourself to talk about paintings, you’re embarking yourself. It was just to give informations on the painting, it would be so boring. Sometimes you can look deeply into it and even analyze it with your own interpretation, try it !

My issue with her is; she can't tell a Daisy (Bellis perennis) from Water Crowfoot (Ranunculus aquatilis). A Daisy is a compositae whereas the Crowfoot is clearly a single flower. 😅
