@CindyBee I so agree with you. Bang PD is a genius. Through his vision of combining the artists, fans and technology, he created the world's biggest group in BTS. The members popularity grew organically and they inevitably were the ones responsible for their continued, consistent and massive growth through their music, performances, and most importantly, personalities, and have sustained that level and surpassed all other artists in the best way possible - human interaction, virtually through social media and actually through live shows and fan meetings. In fact, in my lifetime, BTS is the biggest group EVER; bigger than The Beatles and Michael Jackson (he's not a group anyway). And I don't see any artist replicating this feat. Finally, I love Seoulite TV. Thank you for this enlightening video. 💜

Take it or leave it, it doesn't matter whether you believe it or not, K-pop is no different from any business.
K-pop is an Entertainment business, therefore, it doesn't matter whether you like Bang PD or not.
If you look at how Asian's Musical status was, it has been K-pop that has been well known but now we have J-pop and other Asian's artists coming up and that is slowing down K-pop popularity until BTS came in to light up the fire.
Yes, K-pop is well known mainly in South Korea but I think things need to be evaluated within K-pop in order for K-pop to be world wide just like BTS as made it well known in the world.
Music entertainment shouldn't be mainly about looking beautiful and handsome according to Korean's beauty standard but should base on talents.
If Bang PD had base on Korean's beauty standard that means RM, J-Hope, Suga, and Jimin wouldn't have been chosen by any of the well-known companies.
Bang PD was confidence and he based his thoughts on talents, therefore, RM, J-Hope, Suga and Jimmin were picked and look where we are now.
BTS did not start K-pop but they paved the way to the international market especially the US.
It doesn't mean there were no artists that came and performed in the US because there were a lot of K-pop members but they never Penetrated the US market as BTS did.
For this reason this is why the statement that says "BTS Paved the Way" meaning out side of Korea especially in the US.
I know folks don't want to accept the fact but let see how many will make it in the US market since BTS will be enlisted in the US.
    It is my thought.

    • @lovelydiva06
      @lovelydiva06 Год назад +2

And if y’all gonna say they paved the way then let others walk the pavement they’ve paved without y’all trying and hinder other kpop artist from becoming a major success in the west/US cause you don’t want anyone else to be as popular or successful in the west/US as bts yet again your continuously screaming bts paved the way, no one can ever take away what bts has achieved in the west/US no matter who comes after them so why not let others have there chance to shine if their being received well in the west/US

@@lovelydiva06 no one is gatekeeping the the path to success in the western media lol. so many idol groups are already being invited to daytime shows and late night nows, attending music awards, and charting billboard. Maybe you need to redefine your meaning of "success". it won't be the same level of BTS, that's why you probably feel like people are "hindering" your artists.

      @armyyy0613 Год назад +6

@@lovelydiva06 You see what's hindering other groups' success in the west is the quality of their own music. When you want a market to patronize you, you have to offer them something different/unique. Something that people can relate to. The kind of music that makes you think and makes you feel something. You don't want to offer a music lover just the visual of a group/artists all the time because they just wouldn't care.
In short, it's not BTS/ARMY's fault if your favorite groups aren't just good enough to have a global impact. Just like any major artist, BTS didn't have many fans at first, didn't top the music charts at first, didn't win at award shows at first and no one knew them 10 years ago but because of all the hard work they have done and all the patience and persistence they have given in putting up good music, they slowly made their way to the top. They've waited 3-4 years to get big in their home country and 7+ years to expand globally and then there are fans like you who expect your favorites to suddenly get big without much experience and QUALITY in what they offer. BTS paved the way but it doesn't mean they will spoon-feed other groups.

The groups I follow have openly expressed their gratitude to Bang and HYBE for giving them the support they need. Not every company is perfect but I believe they are moving in the right direction for the artists and the fans. Also, another RUclips vlogger (DKDK) during the early days of the SM drama looked into the breakdown of employee salaries, HYBE was the highest paying company for executives, artists, and support staffs. Being an international entertainment company the company needs to be equitable in salary considering they acquired Ithaca Holdings. Bang is definitely looking forward and being sustainable. And looking forward to how Bang leads. So far, I’ve been impressed with his leadership.

Someone had gotten a hold of contract info toward the end of last year...HYBE artists had the best contracts of all the large companies and SM artists had the worst (after finding out about the founders deals I understand why now). I was rooting for HYBE because I felt it would have been really amazing for SM creatively and I believe PD knows how to maintain SM as SM yet still improving it. And with the revelation of EXO-CBX legal fight with SM (which I heard were initiated months ago prior to the tentative final episode of Season 1), I believe hidden embers are only starting to rekindle a fire within. While the concept of slave contracts has been rehashed, it might now be possible to introduce the real reason for inexplicable suppression of activity and comebacks certain groups experience that have left many scratching their heads. i think the main thing they need to tackle to become mainstream is the reputation of kpop. the crazy fandoms are scaring people away. i think if they show good faith between all labels and work together and have the same main goal for the artist it might help. and they should also focus on highlighting the solo singers and find someone with an amazing voice can translate well on the global market. western people have a grown hate against boybands and also girl Groups but not as much. and when you throw kpop in top og that it makes a dangerous cocktail.
i love BTS, i love them because they speak for themself not only in their music but what they want in general. they were allowed to be goofy and silly and just be themself. it made them happy that people love them for who they are not someone they are told to be. like so many groups before them.
the whole controlment issue is the problem. i know they need to have some rules but let idols clap and smile when other groups perform and let them date and have friends. if fans see that they wont have a problem supporting them.
and fandoms might also lighten up. as of yesterday i saw once and army Communications and congratulating each other and it made me so happy and to see that you might also want to look at more of their music. it is the whole fighting between labels for the top spot is creating those super crazy fandoms. so they need to all work together and not think of themself.
lastly they need music that appeal to western market too. like j-hopes new song and RM´s wildflower is good additions that fit both worlds.

Free will exists, so I'm not sure how you want to change the fans. Btw, it's not like the same toxicity doesn't exist in the fandoms of western artists, it's the same game just less dedicated and less organized.
As for actions between artists, I agree it should be more lose, but it will take some time. There have always been interactions though. I know from my second fandom MOA for TXT, that the leader Soobin had a first cross ever live (not just shirt visit) with Seventeens Seungkwan. I thought that was great. They said that it was super hard though to do it, based on the fact that idols have busy schedules it took then 5 month to finally be able to do it.
TXT have also lots of friends in other groups like Ateez, Stray Kids, Enhypen etc. and show that on award shows. It was kinda the same with BTS until they became superstars and people bscked off. They didn't intend that, but it just happened, and Jin as well as Suga talked about that openly on the veriety shows. I think they really try to break that by openly tslkimg about it and trying hard to open mlre to others. I mean SUGA did a Tik Tok dance challenge with TXT, j-hope with everyone and wven though I hate the app, if things like these help, why not. I also think people will see them as more normal after they did military time.
What I hope for are more normal interactions with females, but it will take more time. On the other side, Kpop has already been there, so it can go back.

I'm grinning because Hitman Bang, while explaining his management and production strategies, also just subtly explained why another company hasn't been able to create 'the next BTS'. Very simply, most other companies don't do what he did: they don't emphasize the creativity and individuality of their artists, they don't work WITH the artists, and they don't experiment. They put the money in, but they don't invest the time. They call it luck and intuition and pass it off as a fluke when actually it's just a departure from industry standards. Which, of course, was exactly what Big Hit was severely criticized and ostracized for; they broke the old standards and created new ones and how dare they?! This is pretty much Hitman Bang's 'I told you so' to everyone who gave him and BTS attitude. And the real irony is that if people just paid attention, they would see that he's been doing this all along. This press release is insightful, but I don't think ARMYs are at all surprised to hear Bang-nim being his usual consistently innovative, think outside the box, focus on the artist, improve connections between artist and fan self. The big question is, which companies will listen to and act on his advice? I'm kinda thinking Kakao won't.
I'm very curious to see what happens with Weverse and Bubble going forward; I've been wishing HYBE would develop their own stream/view platform and pull away from Spotify-who-filters and RUclips-who-freezes-and-deletes, and also refuses to disclose their view-count data. I had a feeling that improving that would be one of the things HYBE would want to prioritize; live-streaming is such a good way to get past the physical seat limitations of stadium and arena shows. AND it would make all of us fans so much less dependent on Ticketmaster (insert swearing) and really devalue scalping.
Something I picked up- I trust the source, K-PopShock, but anything that comes from 'industry insiders' is a bit doubtful, so take it as rumor- apparently, many of the SM contracts for their solo and group artists are due to end this year/next year. And the word that's drifting around is that these artists are unwilling to re-contract to SM with Kakao in charge of management. I think this may help explain why Hitman Bang and HYBE backed off instead of running with the stock bidding war. If all they have to do is wait for the idol exodus and then offer contracts to these now-free-agents..... then they will have broadcast rights over at SM *and* management rights over THEIR new contractees. Who would just happen to already be highly popular and experienced idols.
(And on a side note, what a blow that'd be for MBC, who continues to stupidly ban all HYBE artists from appearing on their broadcasts.)

    • @flaggov6949

Artists also are aware when they will play second fiddle in other companies should they transfer. when they can be the first fiddle in their own company. Artists just dont jump to a bigger company. They likely to sign with a smaller company that focus solely on them. Ie to anyone thinking that SM artist are ready to junp ship to Hybe when their contract is up.

    • @ystrw
      @ystrw Год назад

@@rosean374 That's a logical argument, but the fact is that even the small companies will have their own groups in training that they'd want to focus on. Remember, there's over 4K entertainment companies in SK; not all of them train idol groups, but those that do almost always have several groups active and several more being trained. Finding trainees is not a problem when it's time to recruit, but squeezing a whole new group in and disrupting the entire train-and-debut schedule is another matter entirely.
Plus, a small company will have considerably less of a budget for a newly-hired former rival than a powerhouse company. And there's the question of salary, as well. A group like EXO or NCT is probably not going to sign a contract for rookie wages.

Bts being able to break into the west/US and becoming a global success was more so luck right place right time and having that hit that took off in the west, than anything else cause if it was just what the companies are doing there would be more successes like bts cause it’s not like some kpop groups that don’t have music that appeals to american listeners

    • @ystrw
      @ystrw Год назад +1

@@lovelydiva06 That's really not true. Hitman Bang was the first CEO to concentrate on reaching the Western audiences; the standard K-pop tactic is to gain an audience in Korea first, then branch out to the East, and finally approach the West.
The standard K-pop tactic is to wait patiently for Korean TV and radio to notice a group and begin inviting them to promote; Hitman Bang didn't care to wait and didn't like how the media was treating idols- his own boys got verbally abused and insulted- so he bypassed the media and went straight to the internet. The company even established their own little variety show; that's what Run BTS was born from.
Another standard K-pop tactic is for the company to write and produce the songs and the idols to sing and dance what they're told, how they're told, when they're told. They do not get input; idols have been thrown out of their groups for daring to question or suggest changes to their management. Hitman Bang wanted his boys to express their own experiences and connect with their listeners, and from that came BTS working with writers, producers, and choreographers, and settling the line distribution among themselves. BigHit didn't always use their suggestions, but they were free to suggest and ask questions.
Typically, K-pop idols have very limited interactions with their fans, as management decides what they may say, when they may say it, when they may acknowledge fans and when they have to ignore them. BTS were among the first to interact directly with fans via Twitter, to release personal logs, and to show the behind-scenes efforts of practices and mv shootings.
None of that is luck or coincidence.

There may have been mistakes here and there or decisions that may seem harsh to the GP. However, I respect the choices that he has made so far as well as the vision he has for growth and expansion. There are anti's who say BTS should leave BigHit/Hybe because they hate Bang PD. Where would BTS go? To SM? Start their own label? BTS members are artists who are still breaking the boundaries of their own artistry. They still need Bang PD to handle the tedious and exhausting matter of running the business. Maybe in 5-10 yrs, they will be ready. I hope by then, all the legal battles from 2024 are long gone, most of what Bang PD said in his speech has materialized and some, if not all, of BTS members are directors-in-training, preparing for Bang PD's turnover to them.

Hybe has endured disrespectful talk from people who understand visuals, but don't understand the business. Numerous times those same folk have sought to dismiss the American music market as unimportant. I have one word for that, BEYONCE! K-pop has only 1 artist who can perform at her level. Mr. and Mrs. Carter are discovering and preparing new artist to continue the legacy of American music dominance. It's only a matter of time before they compile a group to out K-pop, K-pop. With BTS out of the picture, there's a vacuum waiting to be filled. English speaking artist will have an advantage, but only real performers, those who can dominate the stage, will succeed. K-pop visuals age, their way of performing and lack of diversity leads to stagnation. Longevity should be the focus of every artist and company. Being innovative, creative and collaborative are vital tools of longevity. Sexy brain Hitman Bang, gets it. Sean, thanks for sharing Hybe's vision, current and future, with your viewers. I've been a KPOP fan for a relatively short amount of time. Yet, I've frequently been scolded and reprimanded.
Now as an elderly person I was shocked and really turned off by this behavior. At the same time there were many fans who were kind and welcoming. I never felt resentful of the fans who have been teaching me about KPOP and BTS in specific.
But, I have found a dark rot that needs to stop. it puts new fans off, chasing them from KPOP. The mean attitude that a few fans exhibit.
I have never once said anything bad about KPOP in general or about specific groups. I have merely stated an opinion here and there, none of it nasty. Having a different opinion shouldn't mean a rabid 'corrector' should slam you/me.
I also think it is not good to hear from other new fans they are being attacked, scolded or roasted. This is NOT a good behavior.

I know you care about bts for your other videos as much as I do.
You don't find it ironic that bang pd says that "he cares about further expanding kpop in the world and at the same time sends bts to military service?????
I'm actually SO mad at this guy for doing NOTHING to exempt bts.
In the whole interview I think this guy doesn't realize that the Korean wave is basically BTS. And that if bts disappears by going to the army there will not be "another bts"
Seeing his words, it seems that he wants to "create" successful kpop groups like someone who makes any product.
In my opinion bts is more than just aesthetics, it's more than original songs, it's more than everything that says a group needs to succeed! What attracted me the most to bts is the abilities of each one that I have not seen in any other group: for example, Jimin's dance! I've never seen someone dance like that!
JK's voice, suga and rm's intelligence and producer skill.
    and also the personalities!
What makes a run of them fun??
is that they are happy beings! people love them because they are people with a lot of charisma any of them!! and that that you can not "invent"
I see other groups and for me they have zero charisma!! They are young boys with zero personality who only do what they are told to do! and also do not produce their music.
Bts has a bond between them that I've never seen in a group! they really love each other and care and support each other. that's why they got this far.
People are inspired by them and find joy in them.
    because? for their particular personalities!
people find a shelter of love in them.
and that is not something that "can be manufactured"
I have seen many comments on your channel and other networks from people who think like me.
    I DON'T LIKE KPOP, I LIKE BTS
bts are unique and now they are ruining them with the military service that they deserved to exempt!! It breaks my soul that they ruin their career at their best and put them in danger after all they have done! not only for society, but this bang pd guy should take care of them like gold after THEY were the ones who brought big hit out of ruin and made the company it is today!
from all that bts has earned about 20 million each, which is very little! being that the company has earned Billions and contributed to Korea also billions!!
They have been exploited a lot.And now, instead of taking care of them and claiming an exemption, they ruin them! and not only his career but EMOTIONALLY!!
How do you think they feel about having to leave everything they've achieved with hard work, being on top of the world! when they could continue getting even MORE things! They could go on a world tour and fill the biggest stadiums in the world! and instead of that go to a barracks to be treated like garbage and wear out their physiques and make their lives bitter!!
I think bts doesn't realize the POWER HE HAS. Those 7 guys with their fandom of 100 million people are more powerful than the government and the company itself!!
if they had said, "we want to continue our careers, please don't cut us all off right now" and made VALID for all their achievements the army would have supported them and demanded that they be exempted
I can't understand how they just settle for "ok, the government doesn't exempt us so let's go"
when it is more than clear that they have PLENTY of merits to exempt.
How is it that the defense minister made any ridiculous excuse for not exempting them and that remains as if nothing? and you have to "pay attention to what he says" even if it's something absurd!??
It hurts me to see the level of submission of bts! when they have a LOT of power in their hands! And they could make everything change.
They are guys with a huge heart, they really are a manifestation of love, kindness, joy, simplicity and good values!! and that is very difficult to see in artists today!
and military service is THE OPPOSITE!! it is violence, abuse, weapons, and everything bad.
They are going to take all the smile and joy out of their personalities and ruin them emotionally!! and that annoys me!! 💔😡

Bang PD has no control over the law of the land. They had already investigated exemption. It did not fly because new laws would have to be made just for BTS (and maybe others). Completing military service is a BIG DEAL in Korean society. Their popularity as a group could take a huge hit if they did not go. Look up what happened to Steve Yoo. He tried to avoid military service and it did not go well for him. BTS needs to be seen as having pride in their country and that includes serving in the military like all able bodied Korean men, just as JHope said. They can't turn their backs on it just because a foreigner doesn't like it.

It seems absurd to me that one of the "points" for kpop to continue growing is not: the exemption for kpop groups that have global success like bts!!
How can they expect kpop to grow if when they reach stardom as bts they cut off their career at their best moment!! when they have MUCH more to keep achieving!
and he does not speak at any time of that! it's stupid!

It would behoove HYBE to take a hard look at the American juggernauts and not copy most of what they do. It’s an open secret the music industry in the States eats their artists for breakfast! The entertainment, if you can call it that, that is available now is cringeworthy. The emphasis on mindless sexuality is most distasteful and it is not a trend to be embraced by female Korean artists. For the most part the music is predictable. Songwriting has been dumbed down. In short there is nothing appealing about it!
HYBE might want to consider Canada as a launching pad to the North American expansion. True it is a drop in a bucket market, but it is a a completely different one. The best comparison I can draw is Americans want the entire experience, the lights, the sparklers, fire, the speakers on acid, the sis-boom ba! And good on them!
Meanwhile in Canada, we are just as pleased to sit in a small venue, a warm atmosphere, while the singer sings his songs, tells a few jokes, happy to share their gift with us, knowing our spirits have been lifted, perhaps our hearts crushed but most certainly feeling we got value for our money.

I agree that a lot of Americans want the noise, but there are maaaaaany Americans who want more substance but can't find it anywhere in the current market. Which is why so many of us are attracted to BTS and their wide-range of genres presented with authenticity. I honestly don't even pay attention to radio or charts because it's all the same crap (as you described so accurately).

Doug & the Slugs (Wacky guys Jann Arden (start with Insensitive) and there's two more but I have drawn a blank. There's lots of Canadian compilations on RUclips. ENJOY!

Lee Cox - your thoughtful analysis re the American juggernaut is spot on. As well as all the other cookie cutter mindless acts which pollute the music scene. I love BTS and its evolution over 10+ years. Unfortunately as a Canadian I'm always dismayed about the extraordinary difficulty that Canadian talent IN ALL DOMAINS (music, entertainment, business, technology, scientific discovery etcetc) has in "making it" in our country. They invariably have to go to the USA (& frequently stay for good) to really make it big not only worldwide but also within Canada herself. So sad.

Something I don't understand is: why didn't I ask for an exemption for BTS!!
please don't tell me that they "want to go" because it is absolutely absurd and unbelievable!!
who in their moment of international glory like them, after sacrificing more than 10 years deciding without pause to get where they are, would want to leave everything to go to a military service that everyone says is horrible and that they have had a VERY bad time! the testimonies of people say that they are treated like garbage, if they are injured or do not care, they make them undergo inhumane tests such as the gas chamber, etc! many are left with significant psychological sequelae. Idols have told how they suffered constant bullying and horrible things!
they think bts wants to go!!
Why don't they see beyond the obvious of a simple statement that I sure wrote it that way to be in good standing with Korean society!!
at the yet to come concert, they looked sad and depressed
at a concert in los angeles permission t dance on the 4th day jhope said: i hope this is not the last concert. I could be happy but I still have "a stone in my shoe that bothers me" I am afraid that my biggest fears will come true
(if that is not a hint that your fear is the SM!! please!)
He also said at an awards ceremony when he was alone:
all 7 of us are heartbroken over things we can't say out loud.
😳💔 and so I can continue with many other hints that the boys have said
It's unfortunate how my company let them talk about it and REALLY say what they think and feel!
At festa 2022 some absolutely heartbroken were noticed!
They clearly did not want to leave the group and knowing that they would have to leave everything for military service would destroy anyone!
Didn't they see how bad Jin was in his last vlive!? He even said "I'm very sad" and for him to say that really hits me because he always wanted to be happy!!
It broke my heart in a thousand!!
JK's vlives don't see so well how sad it was that even one of them shed tears!
this service destroys bts!! ruin their personalities because they are going to walk out of there with everything but a smile and a cheerful personality!!
people say: I'll wait for you! and yes me too but 3 years is unfair and music is very competitive! They will not have the boom of today! and neither will they continue as they were doing until they were 40 years old!!
Now is your GOLDEN time! I don't know ANY kpop artist that has come out of there and they are the same as before.
BTS DESERVED TO CONTINUE WITH THEIR MUSIC!

Did Bang PD also factor in the Korean or KNetizen cancel culture as far as the development and promotion of talented artist and trainees. As soon as there is some negativity associated with an artist or trainee, the knetizens villify them and the company never stands by their artists. Instead they dump them. Rip Kim Garam and Trainee A JJ. I have my doubts about the quality of future Kpop artists because of the cancel culture.

Caae in point. American artists are rarely dropped by their labels because of a scandal. I mean Travis Scott concerts can result in the loss of lives but he just continues with his career. Countless artists are arrested and are in an out of jail for drugs, assault etc but they get bailed out or get pardoned by the president.😅 . Their careers still flourish while in Korea this would be the end of an artists career.

It’s sad that SM propaganda spewing vitriol about HYBE worked. They’re the only Kpop company I’ve heard of that truly values the artist and treats them well, and doesn’t consider them simple money-making products like other companies do. SM employees and fans truly fell for SM’s lies. Good luck to em under giant money-hungry conglomerate Kakao.

How can nobody understand that this guy DOES NOT CARE about BTS!!
They could have done much more than remain silent with the whole issue of the exemption!
As you say, it is a powerful company, and perfectly after all that bts has achieved and after having been ambassadors so many times for the benefit of Korea as the UN, White House, Expo, Seoul commercials, erc! Why not ask for an exemption!??
After having won an order of merit medal, they already deserved it!
Ahira bts cuts their careers in their prime and endangers their physical and mental health in an army!! when they are people with incalculable cultural value!!
Bang ps also missed the opportunity last april when the transition committee of the new government met with him to discuss the exemption of bts and he said "there is no reason to exempt bts"
    WTF!??
this guy is ungrateful and doesn't care about the members! he sees them as a mere product that he thinks he can replace!!
I can't imagine how bts feel after being on top of the world after fighting for more than 10 years of pure sacrifice and leaving everything to go to a barracks to have a bad time! to be treated like trash after they have done everything for their country!! 💔😡
Seeing them one by one and knowing that they won't see each other for a long time is horrible!!
they could be doing what they do best: music and concerts and getting back together soon! but not!
bang ps did nothing for them and the government is a disgrace! with those ridiculous excuses from the defense minister and the culture minister saying: "let's ask people and see what they think"
INCREDIBLE the level of hypocrisy and injustice!!
today thousands are crying oor to see bts go through this!

This is why sending BTS to the military was short-sighted. Unfortunately Korean law makers and the general voting public are old and mostly conservative and nationalistic. BTS was not popular within Korea until after they became global stars. Just as they got their first hit in the US “Boy With Love,” COVID hijacked the world and BTS never really got the chance to make a real impact before Jin had to enlist. I am glad that Bang Shi-yuk is finally speaking up about the threats to K-Pop’s future. Korea is a young democracy and takes too much for granted, particularly the efforts of its younger generation. This is a wake up call for Koreans and I hope that they finally listen to the changes that must be made for the forecoming future.
