We spent 12 years rebuilding a 3 storey 1884 brick rowhouse in downtown Pittsburgh in order to purchase an existing earthship in Taos rather than build a new one. It was a wonderful plan and eliminated the costs and environmental impact of a new construction. (It was well worth the wait.) Plus now there is another inner city home saved for the future and I have my dream earthship.

Fantastic! It's great to have updates on this! Keep making videos. This is one of my favorite threads to follow on RUclips right now.

Yes, the extra footage is hugely appreciated. My son and I had fun putting together our model. Good stuff. Thanks for the reminder about the gifts.

Just an FYI - Despite the MANY pros of the I-beam rafters, if you talk with firemen they will tell you they are a complete disaster in a fire. They burn quickly and collapse FAR more quickly than 2 x rafters and/or old phone poles. In fact, one told me that many firemen refuse to go up to second stories or onto roofs framed with them if the fire is very advanced, calling them a death trap! As these are on the roof, obviously that wouldn't be an issue and there are basically zero trees around there for forest fire issues, BUT if there's a fire in the house the roof will be far more likely to fail than a viga or even a 2 x roof structure.

How many square feet is this newest Earthship home your constructing? This is so cool! I’m staying in one of the Earthships less than a 1/2 mile away. As a matter of fact I drove past the construction site this last Monday. Cheers! Keep doing what you’re doing!

I realize it's a little late now... but y'all should really try to capture the polyiso "saw" dust in the future with a shop vac or at least a tarp under the saw. All that plastic/glass fiber is going right into the soil

The Roof is a great let down, the entire structure is leaky. but hey, you can cook eggs on the floor when the suns up and suck out the heat when the suns down.
Pound Tires and then put on a toilet paper roof.
    Looks half-@ss and hippie
