The thing that confuses me is that the T1s have the front view blocked off for physical distancing, but couldn't the operator just keep the cab door closed?

Having those two barriers up during covid times gave operators extra protection. Today in 2023, they can at least remove the yellow barrier so we can all look out the front again.
