I'm a big snowboarder... and I've been getting into sailing, to see the god Travis Rice sailing like this...you can hear the passion in his and all the other sailors voices is EPIC... it makes the hair stand up on my neck...
I first saw this boat when Peter Johnstone introduced it a few years ago ! Now that gunboat went bankrupt , "&DNA" took over this division of the former gunboat at auction ! I'm glad it is alive and growing ! I hope the plans to rig the boat for single handed sailing with the new smart crew computer system is successful ! The computer , programs safety parameters for the performance that protects against flipping the boat over ! No fear sailing a foil cat when this gets dialed in ! Love this video and will look for more !
Great video folks! Would love to know about all the modifications that were made to the boat since it's capsize and new ownership under Shannon. Obviously from tiller to wheel but, I imagine there's lots more.
the f4 is not the same as the G4 The F4 was specially designed for the Redbull documentary “Flying on water”. Jimmy Spithill, director of America’s Cup Team Oracle USA, foiled the first F4 from New York to Bermuda.
Actually that is only partly true. The G4 was built at DNA in Lelystad, NL and the molds have always been there. DNA was contracted by Gunboat as the Designer & Naval Architect as well as the builder, where then CEO of Gunboat Peter Johnstone only conceived the idea and hired DNA to make it happen. Two G4's were built in the orange Gunboat regalia, Timbellaro 3 & one other un-nammed hull. The F4 was not a re-painted G4, it is an all new construction however I'm not certain if all the original molds of the G4 were used, only some, or if new molds were made. The F4 has an LOA of 14.2 M, the G4 is shorter 12.74 M. I could not tell you how they made the hulls longer by using the original molds or if new ones were created. The proof I can give you is to watch this great film from Red Bull; www.redbull.tv/video/AP-1S7KKZDE12111/flying-on-water Early in the film you will see the Red Bull enter the DNA facility in Lelystad and they will walk by the nearly completed G4 hull #2 that is orange, then they will immediately show the F4 under construction still in raw cured carbon pieces partially assembled. Enjoy the film, it is really good!
Yes, but it is very small. Both designs, on the port side of the cockpit there is a head recessed into the port hull. I know on the G4 there is a pop-up tent that encloses the head while a person occupies it. In the F4 they may have changed the design so that it is completely enclosed. just a toilet, no shower.
Luke see beautiful boat but without a shower and head not much of a livable offshore boat plus at 40ft kinda dumb.. 2 queen beds a galley a dining table and no shower.. No thanks.. I'd much rather the G55 with 3 beds and 2 baths too bad they don't make it anymore.. I'm still trying to remember what company bought G boat.. And if they plan to build again
Oh Big WOW!.... Very pretty video. How bout you change the name of the boat to Weggie!. You can't call this boat curvaceous. So...was your skinny bow's boat (diving duck) ok in the big blue water?.. Did you have to pull a down-wind luff under bare poles? No?But you're talking survival, right?....... Good thing. Pitch-Pole would be your next name for the boat after after Weggie ! I think you're on to something. But the scale is... too small, or the wave frequency is too big. One or the other. Is this boat a scale model of...maybe 100M boat? Keep dreaming.
Gotta give credit to the drone pilot these are excellent shots really does the boat justice
Dankie. Nice to see. Thank you for the video.

The F4 was originally the "G4" built by GunBoat? Did it go through a complete refit to be the Boat it is now?
