    I have an SX900 on the way after a long wait brought about by the bad supply dynamics caused by Covid. Have not seen any other videos by Chris but this was a very well done review as he offered a novel take that was insightful and confirmed some of the things I was hoping for concerning the 900. I am a guitarist first and a "keyboardist" second and do quite a bit of song writing. I already have a Korg Kronos, a beautiful rig that requires a music technology PhD to grasp. I really wanted a simpler rig with awesome sounds and styles, simple interface and a great sound through its own speakers. At one point, I bought a Medeli AKX10 when I couldn't get the Yamaha. The price was great, the sounds were pretty good overall and the interface was fine. Where it lacked IMO was in the speakers and surrounding support structure for the rig (e.g., no appreciable exo-structure such as availability of additional styles or workable community support/tutorials). At about $700.00 US, it really was a good buy but I really wanted this Yamaha. Again, thanks for the perceptive comments and review.

    I have this model and my father has the Genos. I have to say it's nicer to play this one, even though it shorter by an octave and has less advanced weighted keys. The sound is identical (over headphones) but playing the Genos is physically tiring compared to this one. The menus are inscrutable as ever with Yamaha and the loss off the Music Finder (which tells you what songs might fit with a certain style) remains tragic, but other than that I very much recommend the SX900. It'll last me for a decade, I'm sure. The Chord Finder feature has helped me to play far more advanced chords as well, certainly a bonus.

    I don't notice much difference in the sound quality compared to my psr s910. Seems like Yamaha is reusing the same quality sound samples, maybe repackaging it in a more modern keyboard but even the style of the sx900 seems much more simpler than the S910 which is, IMO, a much nicer keyboard. But I have not seen one in real life so maybe there are some pros. Would welcome suggestions thoughts as I am looking to upgrade, I would like to have the same features of the PRS S910 but more expressive, more realistic sounds, more rythms, especially in the Jazz, smooth jazz, Latin and Rock.

    Hi Chris me again! Well it's nearly a year since I bought the psr sx900 so I know it pretty well but I also have studied the genos very closely for the last few months comparing it with my psr and I don't think that the differences between the two arrangers are big enough to justify the extra $3000 I would have to pay to have the genos new. Maybe If I could get it second hand at a reasonable price would I make the change, but I really like my sx 900.

      @@klausherchenroder7270 thanks Klaus. I ending up buying a Genos last year from a private person at a very good price. It was in a immaculate condition but I only kept it few months, I just didn't like it that much. I ended up selling it and kept my sx900 which I much prefer for many reasons and never regretted it.

    Hi Chris, unfortunately I'm not a song writer and never will be. It's there any other things that the chord looper could be used for?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  2 года назад +3

      Sure, you could programme them with any particular song's chords for live performances. I've been toying with Oasis 'Don't Look Back In Anger', as it works well with one of the BritPop styles. I enter the chords for the verse, chorus, and bridge into Chord Looper, and then play the song as a 'live' performance switching between the programmed loops as I go. It works nicely, and importantly, allows me to use the whole range of the keyboard in my performance instead of having to play the left-hand chords myself. I'll do a full video on this soon. Hope that helps! - Chris

    Over the years I have had Yamaha, Korg and Roland keyboards at various times but this is the best without question also bearing in mind the price compared to the Genos and the new Korg PA5X (My SX 900 replaced the PA4X). All my life I have worked with Country Music bands but mainly solo so I normally record my own backing tracks. I'd never been able to find a keyboard that could really give a true authentic sounding country sound (that is until the SX900). The ironic part is that I had more or less retired from live gigging so in some ways I found it too late. I do still use it though for doing a bit of backing when I've done the odd song on RUclips. Heres a little short video I did just after I bought the SX900 in relation to coutry music. ruclips.net/video/aopmrIM6u3E/видео.html and I also used it for a little song I wrote a couple of years ago. I'd asked people who had lost their parents what they would give to just spend one more hour with them and this is the song I wrote about it, thank you Yamaha ruclips.net/video/HrTRwHk8C1k/видео.html

    Hi Chris…I just bought this board…and I can’t find these sounds/rhythm sets. I’m dying to dig into them (Sledgehammer, In The Air Tonight, etc). Any way I can load any of my samples on it ?

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  2 года назад

      If you search for '80s' in the style section, it'll give you a list of almost all the 80s styles as most of them have that in the title.
      Yes, you can load your samples onto the keyboard as 'wav files for use in the multi-pad or song section. Unfortunately, you can't upload your own voices but you can alter the existing ones in quite an in-depth way. I'm making a video on that soon.
      Hope that helps!

    • @IsisofDurnham
      @IsisofDurnham 2 года назад

      @@malcolmmckinnon3821 And it's a daft decision by Yamaha . They could really blow competition away by combining instruments .Put the features of the sx900 into the DGX and you'd have the best selling instrument by far ( Korg ,Roland and Casio wouldn't be able to compete ) . They have three keyboards in that SX series as well, you have to wonder what they were thinking ....
      The Medeli folks have shown that you can have a LOT of features in a very cheap instrument as well , so it's not like you'd be operating at a loss .What I like about Chris is he doesn't really hide the fact he really thinks this stuff is overpriced ( while still trying to sell it ,mind you ....)

    • @malcolmmckinnon3821
      @malcolmmckinnon3821 2 года назад

      @@IsisofDurnham I was going to comment that by combining the two you would be well on the way towards a CVP, although not as high as the prices for CVP-805 and 809. It was partly becase DGX-670 draws from CVP-701 that attracted me to it (and because I already have a 660), and because I don't think I am a good enough player to justify the price of the CVP!! Every video I have seen on YT of the 670 is overwhelmingly positive.

    • @ePianoscouk
      @ePianoscouk  2 года назад

      I hear you both. A combination of DGX670/SX900 would be brilliant, wouldn't it? As you said, Malcolm, it would understandably be priced higher than SX900 - perhaps more like an entry CVP range? DGX670 is keyboard of the year for me so far. But then, as I explain in the video, I'm a piano man first and foremost. That being said, I am not kidding when i say I've really, really enjoyed having SX900 at home for 18 month (since covid) despite not having piano style keys. It's a little powerhouse of a keyboard. Hope you liked the video. Chris
