it is my guess this is easier on a Chevy than on an Olds. With the Chevy's I have seen you can access this area much easier, whereas on Olds the entire dash pad needs to come off to get to this ignition switch. I have my doubts it can be accessed from below...
2014 Civic we already re placed the ignition switch ( opposite side of ignition steering column ) 2 months later, SAME NO CRANK, even with tons of jiggling ( battery , alt, starter ALL passed )
Hello, I hope you get this message and can help me with a 2005 Grand Prix GT with the same issue. I have the wiring exposed under the column and I found that the previous owner installed an auto start and a Bypass kit. I also removed the cover under the glove box but there's nothing there. There's something on the passenger side panel but it's different than the Grand Am. The wires at the ignition switch are black, white, and black/white which don't match anything I find online . Any help would be appreciated.
My husband has a 2006 Pontiac G6. Worked fine. Then he changed the motor mounts and now it won't crank or start. We changed the started, checked all fuses and relays. Took off the auto theft device and still nothing. He lost the key with key codes, but has a regular spare. He's at the end of his rope. What dies he need to do? Replace the entire device surrounding the cylinder?
Replacing motor mounts will not cause a starting issue. There was some other issue present before this repair. Read the service manual about resetting the passlock system it gives the exact procedure. It involves leaving the key in the "run" position for 10 minutes, turn off, wait 5 seconds, repeat, then try and start. Read the manual as there are some other subtle details I left out.
Thanks a million❤ very informative video Have you ever done a pcm and bcm reprogram? ThAt would be very helpful as well. My problem is I have a 2004 impala with original 3.4L and fq3 transmission axle ratio I installed a 3.8L with f83 transmission axle ratio the only code that comes up is crankshaft sensor the car starts runs and drives But transmission bucks between gear's sometimes not all the time could be transmission itself but also could be program was originally set up for fq3 ratio with the 3.4L So to recap only problems are transmission bucks sometimes and crank sensor. Code because originally set up for 3.4L with fq3 I have installed 3.8L with f83 ratio Only thing I can think to do is get a vin number from a junkyard that has same similar setup as mine with option code's closely matching mine and somehow program it? Or taking a pcm and bcm from the junkyard that already programmed for my setup..i am concerned about the milage issue though..?would these ideas work??any ideas??Thanks in advance
Why do so many people have videos About this and LIE about the key cylinder programming/relearn? The instructions that come with the new cylinder states in the very first sentence that you must have a scan tool to do it... which explains why it didn’t work after spending about 6 hours this week fuckking With it since I saw all these videos doing it. But they must all be bs
The instructions for the passlock relearn is in the link in the description. I state that in the video. It works (on this era of GM vehicle) no scanner needed.
Impromptu or not, you make a damned good video. I just wish you had showed all the steps, from foreplay to completion, (so to speak). You could speed them up, (as some video makers do), and that gives us a much better idea of what you are describing.
Did you visit the link as described multiple time in the video? To make the full detailed video make the job of fixing it take about 5 times as long. I didn't think to make the video until half way through the job, thus the written and picture detail in the link.
Could this be a fix for then you turn the key to start... and you here nothing from the starter? When the key is in the start position.. the lights on the dash go out. All other positions the lights are on. Thanks
Did everyone you said, but alarm light is only flashing when key is out.. Does not flash at all or come on when key is turned on... What do i do now? I have no idea
I bought an ignition switch cylinder can I use the same key and cylinder to start and can somebody let me know pretty fast is a 2000 to 2000 Grand Prix I really could use some help on this thanks
All my gauges reset with no turn over have tried for over a month with no avail the security light blinks then stops after 10mins. Did a 30 min relearn and still no start and gauges rest again. I need help!
I just put a new ignition switch cylinder and the housing from a junk yard in my 2006 chevy equinox. Now it’s giving me all the lights but it won’t crank the engine or start it. It just does nothing at that point. Can you please help me figure out what’s wrong with it?! Give me some suggestions it was working and starting fine before. Sometimes it would putter and sound terrible upon starting and I always had to jiggle the key to get it to turn in the cylinder but I figured those were just issues with the cylinder going out.
Gm garage told me it was my pcm or my fuel pump could be my pcm hung up phone went back out to the truck Sean my battery neg end had a crack in new ends on start right up after 7 day working on it don't ask gm $$$$$$ its all that that see and make sour ends are good & tight have a nice day
@@thejunkman Come on, man. This poor lady commented above twice and was obviously having trouble figuring out how to do this work and I'd bet a million that she felt she couldn't do this repair herself regardless of how easy it is for you. As a last resort she did what any logical person would do and just wanted her car to start. Do you think your mother could do this on her car ?
tap it the cylinder with the end of a screw driver while gently turning the key, on amazon there is a spray made specifically for locks that have stuck pins/tumblers, don't use WD-40 spray
Before 2006 many Chevys did not have chipped keys. If you change the switch you may have to reprogram the security system. The time to reprogram the security system is after the new lock is in but before putting the dashboard back on.
If this video helped you considering giving "THANKS" ❤ it goes to help making more videos like this.
Thank you! I had to watch at least 10 videos that just like to hear themselves talk before I found your video that actually shows how to unhook it!
Appreciate the video. I've been late to work because of this. I actually lost a job from it... So now I'm going to try to fix it
Me too
Suck know the feeling to have problems
Awesome quick editorial! Thanks, now I'm not scared!
Fix this frustrating issue easily!

I have a manual I cannot find what you're saying for passcode if you can please help
Great video and insight of how to diagnose a bad ignition switch..
There was nothing about diagnosis
Cool great video, now looking for the relearn video to complete ignition switch can’t find it. Please help me
Thank You! If I am just replacing the cylinder, does all that still need to be done?
Yes because you need to get to the button that releases the lock cylinder.

@@thejunkmanshowed enough, my way of removing a dash in a car this old is maybe there will be some broken plastic but your car will work🤣
Na just kidding like u said, just don't pull too hard then go look it up if u can't figure it out

Possibly. There are contacts that could be dirty or worn.
@@thejunkman Have you ever seen that the Passkey has to be reprogrammed due to lack of battery power at some point
No, but the procedure is easy to do.
Does this work in a 05 lacrosse
all the keys on his keychain make it too heavy for the ignition. does damage over time.
Yep

You will have to take it to (or find a mobile) a locksmith to have the new cylinder keyed to your old key.

Sounds like a faulty part. Or the pass lock has been enabled and needs to be reset. More info on site, link in description.
Thanks
Had it, I fixed it
How do I know that is the actual problem?
Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for the ignition switch on a 2005 Grand Prix Gt
It is the exact same switch. All the W-body cars use this.
Can u tell me how to make it work

Hey im not sure if you reply or not but my key wont turn at all how would i still do this
Call a locksmith to turn the lock cylinder or make you a new key.

02 grad prix key release under stirring column 0 looking button but u can reach around and not have to use screw driver

Taking the dashboard out takes to much time and a mechanic wants up to $200 just to do it In my 2003 impala
A push start?
Mine don't have a pass lock,
Ok good vid but no fule pump and no starter starter is good no lights on the dash no power to fuse for them swith just put in but no difference
I have no key what to do
Call a locksmith. They can make you a new key, then you can get it out.
