I find it really hard to admire another bike because I feel like I'm cheating on my current one. My bike may not be top of the line but it is mine and that makes it the best bike in existence.
Thanks Simon, It's nice to know there's a lot of small companies out there producing these master pieces. If you spent ten minutes talking about every bike that was there, I would watch it...Ride safe everyone.
6:46 I wonder if Mather is making an artful commentary about the over-quantification of cycling (power meters, FTP, weight for everything, wind tunnels, etc). Like a Banksy for bikes moment.
Loved the show, couldn't stop drooling over them all. Especially loved all the custom lug work, some were more like works of art. Took loads of pictures when I was there.
Haha love 3D printed titanium!! Nice to see it show up and it looks competently done. And there's little better entertainment than watching Si geek out over these beautiful and strange bikes :)
At the 10 second mark you catch a glimpse of Craddock/Filament Bikes. The one in the back with the Enve Forks is called Big Senior 3 and is my club leaders, it's bloody lovely.
Thanks for making this Si as I could not go this year. Some great looking bikes there. If I could afford it, I would find it hard to choose between 3D printed techy loveliness and cool stainless steel with parts showing through the paintwork.
So Si gets the trade shows, Matt gets to be Hannah's commis and do weekend chats, Lasty does pain faces on climbs (or squats), what's Dan's next assignment, attacking "berms" while hanging out with the GMBN boys again?
I was at the show, they had two stands with wood. One with bamboo tubes in lugs (can't remember what the lugs were made of) that looks very nice. And another where the whole bike was made of laminated beech which was utterly gorgeous.
Methinks the whisky-in-the-frame stowage is actually for alcohol to fuel a stove and saving you the space of a fuel bottle (although technically you could fill it with whisky to drink and burn).
I'm really interested in my next roadie being a steel frame with a carbon fork. Maybe you guys a GCN could give us some thoughts on contemporary steel offerings from the likes of Bianchi Vigvorelli 105, Surly pacer, and All City Mr Pink to see how they compare to other Aluminum and Carbon bikes for us Amateurs in a non-pro or >=cat 3 racer.
Just do it Simon - the experience of poring over every detail/component/colour is fantastic and then of course you have to wait - all these custom builders have long waiting lists. I'm currently 10 weeks into the 20 week wait for my Rourke 953 - it's like being a kid waiting for Christmas.
Disappointed you didn't cover Shand at all, especially as they won a couple of best of show awards (Touring and Gravel I think). I've had a Shand Stoater for 3.5 years and it is fantastic!
Steel for the win! I have a cheaper Carrera (halfords) which got me started, bought some shorts and a jersey (no shoes yet) but now I wanna nice road bike ~ £800 maybe a LITTLE more, I'm tempted to get a giant defy, but really like steel what do you suggest guys?
Missed this video the first time around. 5:20 Si is in love with the 3D-printed Ti. I'll build you a full custom bike with 3D-printed titanium lugs and custom carbon tubes. You can pick it up when you come over to cover the Tour of Utah #metiervelo
You should get a maybe 5-10 second bit for the framebuilders of the bikes you look at! Often they're just as interesting as the bikes!!! (Obviously more works for your lovely editing team, but the people are more involved that PR folks at the tapei show :-) )
hey gcn, I started cycling more seriously about a year ago but have found that i get bored of the same roads. At first i loved exploring and discovering new roads, especially country lanes and now i have been cycling for a while, i have lost that feeling of exploring new places. I have tried to experiment with different routes but recently i have noticed that i have been on all the roads suitable for cycling near my area several times already. How can i be less bored on the bike and less bored with using the same roads (without going on an expensive training camp)?
the last bike could be done digital with sensors soo much easier and much more portable. I guess these hipsters just got to do things the dumb way. and it looks as heavy as a tank, and a heavy tank at that. but the actual engineering is pretty cool i give it that.
+Bungle2010 ye there are IPA but you never hear people talking about IPA like in the states. you stop most people in the street they won't know what an IPA is

Met Mr. Bastion and that frame the other week, bloody awesome engineering! Amazing to see where 3D printing is going
Steel is real, but all those bikes were so rad! And most importantly, they have a soul.
At the 10 second mark you catch a glimpse of Craddock/Filament Bikes. The one in the back with the Enve Forks is called Big Senior 3 and is my club leaders, it's bloody lovely.
Ti, Si ! - steel is real, but Nothing rides like Ti!
Look at 8:10 you can see Lenin just behind!!
+Mrkopp Jr No, it's Trotsky, he just shave his head while in hiding.
holy shit
+Mrkopp Jr I doubt it, Lenin is more of a mountain cyclist
+Mrkopp Jr hahahaha the resembalence is uncanny
+Mrkopp Jr Hehe, yea, I was just going to point out the same ;)
Finally! A more sensible way to carry two handles of jack!
Always liked the idea behind a custom carbon which would be quite rad!
Wished you guys did a bit more on fixed/track bikes! None the less, loved the video. Loads of beautiful bikes!
Thanks for making this Si as I could not go this year. Some great looking bikes there. If I could afford it, I would find it hard to choose between 3D printed techy loveliness and cool stainless steel with parts showing through the paintwork.
I Love the Bastion Bike Präsentation !!! Please More!!!
I'm on my third custom steel bike. Not a british builder though so a bit cheaper. Fits me like a glove which is why i went custom.
+balleur Orłowski or Rychtarski?)
Am I right in thinking that the triple-tandem (a la the Goodies) is modular? I would love to see an entire pro team time trial on a massive tandem
1:14 That's actually the "Integralter" bar stem combo ;)
What are those awesome glasses? I want a pair!
So Si gets the trade shows, Matt gets to be Hannah's commis and do weekend chats, Lasty does pain faces on climbs (or squats), what's Dan's next assignment, attacking "berms" while hanging out with the GMBN boys again?
Enigma bikes on the right at the end. woop :D
no wooden bikes this year? that keim cycles wooden bike was one of my all time dream bikes
I was at the show, they had two stands with wood. One with bamboo tubes in lugs (can't remember what the lugs were made of) that looks very nice. And another where the whole bike was made of laminated beech which was utterly gorgeous.
I love that steampunk Mathers multi adjustable machine. . 90* headtube angle must be hilarious to ride.
Methinks the whisky-in-the-frame stowage is actually for alcohol to fuel a stove and saving you the space of a fuel bottle (although technically you could fill it with whisky to drink and burn).
Let's see a future GCN presenter challenge using the triple tandem, you can all race Lasty up a Basque hill...
Bastion -- incredible. 3D print lugs for geometry. at 5:25
The Saffron was pretty but the Condor wins. Bloody lovely. (Says the Condor fanboy- best bike shop ever!)
By the looks of that TI chain stay lug and your giddy smile you should have been at NAHBS this year, Simon.
that robin mather bike is seriously cool!

Si, you genuinely look like a "kid in a sweet shop"
That Talbot Frameworks has to be the showstopper, with steel and carbon, very pretty, think the moneys on that one. If I had the money that is.
Si, I can only picture you one one of the steel machines from Field Cycles in one of their magnificent paintjobs.
If I got loot to burn on a custom built scoot, hands down it would be a Panasonic POS bike. Their 2016 catalog does it all for me.
That Talbot track bike in the background!
So rasta
Hi GCN, I was wondering if you could make a cycling video on top 10 tips for riding in the winter. Thanks! :)
Wonderfull bikes!!! Myself is in love with steel...
Did not say where it was held. Went to one in Bristol a few years ago. Looked like the same venue
Woohoo! Thank you
that steel fixie by Mather, now that's cool
Fantastic vid!
"£400, that's about $600". Ahh those were the days!
Bamboo bikes are cool!

What Si says at 1:31? That material became what?
Did you check out Demon Frameworks? His lugs are a work of art!
Any bikes there without some Chris King and/or Brooks component? Such a hype...
I'm doing a school project on bike head tube angles!!
Very cool Show. Are there any of these types of shows in the usa. Chicago?
Cheers.
I gutted I missed the show and gutted I have trimmed of my hipster beard I would have fitted right in..😂
Dos are some amazing costum bike
Can you please make a video about new cycling footwear like moldebel shoes?
Disappointed you didn't cover Shand at all, especially as they won a couple of best of show awards (Touring and Gravel I think).

If I can get a custom built Cross Frameset that can fit 29er wheels I'd be set for life
I wonder how much the 18 speed system weighs with the full bike.
Titanium and dutch FTW!
You have great taste my friend
Great, just what I needed, even *more* ways to stash booze on my bike!
How deep does my pocket needs to be to take home one of these beauties?
When are we going to see the GCN bike again?
Do a video on Sarto Antonio please guys.
Wau! There is some beatyies there. Only worry is that can you ride them with out worrying.
Well, I was looking for more prototypes .. :D
0:40 what would be the benefits of owning a bike like that?
I think I got a project over the summer :D
@5:25 Bastion Cycles did not manage to install die Contis with the right rolling direction. *haha* :D
pick the titaaaaanniiiiiuuuuuuuummmmm!

Get a mountain bike. Sounds perfect for what you want, go explore some trails.
where the fixed gears and track bikes at bro
Pinarello will probably buy the lauf company so they can use the road forks. :)
Steel all the way for longevity
Bastion all day long!
My bike is handmade and custom, by the taiwanese.
do a tandem race
I had a custom titanium black sheep tandem built for the 2015 NAHBS and I absolutely love it.
Someday... someday......
No Aluminium love.
+Jeff K :(
Aluminium is a travesty.
Titanium 100%. Can't beat it
interesting... Good video.
Simon, why are there no aluminium bikes?
Cause aluminium sucks
Thought you effers only approved of carbon frames
8:06 Из всех искусств для нас важнейшим является велосипед.
Beautiful, can't afford any, but do appreciate good work. Lets hope they are not wasted on rich assholes.
the last bike could be done digital with sensors soo much easier and much more portable. I guess these hipsters just got to do things the dumb way. and it looks as heavy as a tank, and a heavy tank at that. but the actual engineering is pretty cool i give it that.
use carbotinium to make your bike really light and really hard to break.
No Bamboo Bikes?
Anybody know the name of the Burgtec pedals seen at ruclips.net/video/OdG6xEowmis/видео.html and if they're in production?
I was expecting to see at least one bearded guy, in a flannel shirt, holding an IPA beer, with all the hipster smugness in that room.
it's the UK. IPA isn't really a thing. it's just called bitter
+WillBloomy Not in my part of the UK: - www.mcmullens.co.uk/our-beers/ipa Yum Yum
+Bungle2010 ye there are IPA but you never hear people talking about IPA like in the states. you stop most people in the street they won't know what an IPA is
Definitely the most worthwhile porn everyone should see. Chapeau custom bike builders!
would have expected you to atleast say once "well this ones shit isnt it"
The condor was cool.
"Bike porn" It's amazing where Google can take you with one key word! #falsemarketing
lol, my DT teacher is the owner of moss bikes, he actually has other cool bikes in the school
Beautifull
Alu is nice but Titan is even more nice
Plastic? Wood? Polyurethane? Styrofoam? Kevlar? Polyphenylene benzobisoxazole?
