I can't wait for the update for two main reasons: (1) How was the adaptation - how long does Ollie think it took him; and (2) Has Ollie become painful in other areas (eg, inner thigh, etc) due to the orthotics correcting his tracking / ride posture (as different muscles adapt to the new tracking/body movement positions)? And consequently, how long did it take for that pain to subside (as those muscles adapt and get used to the new position)?
I love it.. when Ollie said "So what you've effectively got... is a carbon exoskeleton that encapsulates the foot.." All I had in my head was " You've got a carbon clog!!"
you just know that Ollie slowly caressed those shoes and whispered the words my precious with that fixated possessed look of the cycle nerd with an elevated heart rate and sweat slowly rolling down his back when he was off camera.
I had orthotics made by this chap. After a short adjustment period, my shoes no longer rub against the cranks and my knees track straighter. My feet are particularly pronated, so the shoes are pretty tight with the orthotics, but I’m very happy overall.
I've been using Ice Hockey moulded insoles, since my first pair of clip-on's. Just heat them in an oven, install them in your bike shoes, and let them mold to your feet. Affordable and it works!
When my kids were still playing that sport, we used to have to put the whole skate/boot in an oven and then let the whole thing mold to their feet. Now they just have the heat moldable insoles separately??
I recently bought some new cycling shoes and found some new-in-box shoes on eBay. When they arrived, the retail stick of $499 was still on them. I had no idea that cycling shoes could be so good. They hold so comfortable but tight with two BOA devices.
I’ve used orthotic inserts for about 5 years. They’re pricey up front, about £400 for two pairs - one full length pair for my cycling shoes and a half pair for my daily shoes. I’ve been very pleased with them.
I had a lot of trouble with foot pain, especially on the outside edge of both feet. I would get terrible cramps. I know I have quite flat feet, so I applied the same thing I do to walking and running shoes and supported my arches better. I also had to get a shoe that fit my foot well. It was all quite expensive, but totally worth it. I went from riding 30 miles at a time to doing my first century in a few months.
Yadda, Yadda, Yadda. You know it, I know it. Any high profile Pro(s) aren’t paying full price or anything for these one-off beauties. The other is. And most important. These shoes are not the secret sauce. It’s talent that works hard. Peace
I got these orthotics from Mik about 3 years ago and it made a huge difference to comfort. Adaptation was super easy, did 4 hours first ride and then just used them after that all the time. I move them from shoe to shoe (gravel, track and road.) Well worth the money.
I was having major issues with foot pain and toe numbness when riding. Custom orthotics have been a god send to allow me to continue to ride and be more comfortable doing it.
£595 for the custom carbon ones, You can get custom Sidas Footbeds for around £180 that will if nothing else tell you if you will get much/any benefit from "proper" orthotics.
I do have arches that collapses and since I've been using special insoles for everyday walking and everything else I do standing, I can't live without them anymore.
178g per shoe or per pair? Otherwise it isn’t super light, S-Works Exos weight 150g a shoe and are quite some years old already, also Giro have a super light laced one or the Mavics
I have "SuperFeet" insoles in my walking boots and they help with the miles for sure. AND they are only about £40. Wonder if these would be ok on the bike too. They certainly have plenty of arch support built in and you can get them in Carbon too :) Interesting video though
I have green superfert also. They wear out eventually. I moved to a carbon instep/sole with replaceable forefoot padding. That way the most expensive part of the insert remains. The replaceable part is $20.
The most expensive cycling shoes I've ever bought retailed at over $400.....But I got them from my team's shop, below cost, after they sat on the shelf for over two years. Good things come to those who wait.
It has been shown that supporting the arch in your food with shoes actually contributes to the breakdown of the arch. Its like taking a nutrient and your body stops making that nutrient. So the come away is supporting your arch will contribute to the breakdown of your arch. No big deal? Lot bigger than you would think. Anywho good stuff, and that's no reason to not keepemcoming.

Awesome. Going to take me a bit to get you on my bike from north America, but looking forward to getting fitted and a shoe made once I get there. Awesome use of your time during the pandemic of mismanagment/tyranny.
Fantastic shoes/insoles no doubt BUT Adam Hanson invented these in my eyes and in a more practical way too.... boa dail underneath AND a sole to walk on 🤔 also like aren't shoe covers faster now OR the £1,000 scoks?
Adam Ganson was making came up and was making his own shoes (these) 8 or so years ago and only weighed 96gr/ pair. All these clowns have done is copy them and try and flog off that they were the ones that came up with the idea.
@@davidd1492Adam definitely didn't make a shoe like this first. No idea if they were first but Simmons racing and Paul Marchese are speed skate builders that have been making carbon cycling shoes with foot casts for over 20 yrs

No matter what you do if your feet don't feel good, it affects everything else you do. Most shoes have a collar around the back of the heel that goes over the achilles tendon to hold your foot in the shoe, the carbon fiber shoes don't have that. Looks like it could make a blister to me. I would lift my heel right out of there, I wonder how he deals with that.
Given it is moulded to YOUR foot, it shouldn’t need any give. The lack of flex would be a nightmare to walk in, but then again it is a cycling shoe for track and TT
I think I will stick with your other video of losing weight and training to become a stronger rider...if I don't focus on those areas these shoes will do nothing for me.
Ollie's hair is trying to strike out and become it's own person
Maybe it needs it's own show? The GCN fringe? 😂

I bet the Dutch team already have these in wood
Haha 😂 and in balsa wood at that for gains
If you would seriously consider doing another hour record attempt I would start a crowdfunding to get you these shoes.

How much are the insoles ?
the most important question to be answered, but wasn't…

How do you not get blisters in these shoes???
Do they literally fit like a glove or are there areas (toes, ankle etc.) with some room?
The first time Ollie 'dropped' himself, on the floor at the shop . . . after hearing the price of these!
Putting in my 4th order in as I watch this 👌👏👏👏👏🍟🍟🍟🍟🍟🍟💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 loads of money.. still on rim brakes 😀

How were they? Worth every penny? 🤔
@@gcntech Yes, worth every penny. I've had shoes start to fall apart after 5 years. These still feel like new after over a decade.
The expense of cycling parts or gear seems to have no limit. I suppose that's ok for racing, but not for daily cycling.
Damn I thought they were for daily use, glad you pointed that out before I press send on my order.
Pair those with the 1200$ socks 😉

Cant wait to show off these at my next club run....
If they can keep up 💪
what makes them so expensive is that some idiot is daft enough to pay the price.
I'm surprised you allow guns that big in the GCN studio!
Ollie has had to apply for a licence for those bad boys 🤣
I find that the insoles from worn out running shoes give me all the orthotic benefit that my cycling deserves😐
If they are lighter, give you a 100w in a sprint and are more aero, I'm amazed they're not more mainstream.
I'd like to know how expensive just the orthotics without the shoes were

As far as cycling money sinks go, these have a fair bit of reasoning behind them.
