Thank you! Finally someone who recognises the undertone actually does change not just the depth in the sun. I am NC15 in winter but when I get a tan I have more red in my skin
You broke that dowwwwwn babe!!!! I’ve been with MAC for 10 years and you’ve given even me more sound bites and a good refresher! Thank you! We love you in Grand Rapids, MI at the MAC Macys Woodland Mall!
This video NEEDS more views. I was wearing NC for years. I realized that I am rosy, orangey tan complexion. I was always matched to yellow toned foundations and it always looks so off because I have the opposite of that. It’s literally life changing to have your correct undertone. The NWs (NW 35- NW 40) is such a perfect match. And yes girl. When you mentioned your undertone “changing” due to tanning (I naturally tan very well with little time outside) this is so me. Winter time I lean way more neutral but summer / fall I need something super rosy-warm.
Wow, you have really opened my 50+ yo eyes to how undertones work. It boggled me to why I've been matched to cool undertone foundations, but warmer colour clothing, makeup etc looks better on me. It all makes so much sense now. Thank you.
MAC was the first makeup that captured my neutral-yellow undertone. Game changer. I am an NC 20-25 in MAC foundations normally. Weirdly, I prefer a pink undertone in my concealer.. I wish I could shop where you work.. cool tones pop on me, purples are wearable on me. Your vids are so interesting to me. 🤟🏽🫶🏽🤟🏽
This is such an amazing informative video on MAC Undertones! I know so many people who don't understand how MAC Undertones work! Thank you for this! Sharing this
Are you kidding - this is the most helpful foundation choosing tutorial I have ever seen, for any brand - thank you. I'm a instant subscriber - how rare to find content from a true pro :)
I really love how you explain this. when I started out using a foundation, I was a bit more tanned. every sales associate would pick an orange/peach tone for me (mac nw/ chanel b/ dior neutral), and i was always frustrated about why my skin looked dirtier/more orange than my clean face. after several attempts of trial and error and research on youtube, i much found out later that I’m olive. And olive people know best that no matter how much or little exposure you have to the sun, you will always have that slight green tinge in your complexion. So I was in search of all the olive shades (like Luminous Silk 6.0 or Nars in Stromboli, both of which match my body almost perfectly) but then when I used these shades everybody would say that I looked too greenish yellow and sickly. Because, as a man, I don’t really use a lot of makeup items to balance out the green, things like lip products or blush. So a vivid green coverage on my face would almost cancel out the natural variations of shades we all have as human beings. Now I realize that because I actually wear a very minimal amount of coverage, I can almost always go lighter when picking shades depending on the formula and how I apply. So a slight yellow tone that’s a bit brighter than my face somehow never fails me (NC 12-15) and If I look too pale I paint it a bit down to my upper neck and then find a very light bronzer to connect the perimeter of the face with the neck. Another interesting fact I found after watching many Korean youtubers, Koreans cared much less about finding a perfect match and tend to avoid anything that’s too yellow. Mac in Korea. only sells N shades and a very limited number of bright NCs. Some even mix N or NW with NC to cancel out the heavily pigmented yellow. So I guess this has to do with how each culture perceive art and beauty as well.
Yes totally! Huge trend for pink undertone to help with brightness. Same thing there with purple and pink powders. They also have a technique too in how they bring the foundation up to the cheek area and buff excess up towards the eye so there's little to no appearance of makeup
This video was really helpful. I got naturally reddish cheeks (light tone) so beauty advisors tend to recommend me NW but my neck and the rest of my body is cool/yellow with a hint of olive and it’s so frustrating because I KNOW I’m not overall pinkish only because my cheeks are 😅 and trying to explain that is super annoying , reason why I just tell them to leave me alone 😅 and I always keep a yellowy and a pinkish powder handy to neutralize the foundation when it doesn’t match me perfectly. It’s a whole situation when buying foundations for me, also the store lights tend to be too bright so always gotta go out and check on natural light to make sure.
OMG! You explained this so well! I need to see you in person. Please tell me you're in the Atlanta area 😊. I used to be NC for years. I recently found out I have lupus that affects my skin and my hyperpigmentation is bad. 😢 I either look gray or a weird dark chocolate. After watching your video, I think i may need to try NW foundation and a golden highlight 🤔
You are incredible !!! Loooove you ❤ I am travelling back to Montreal 1991 at the MAC store . I feel the same excitement about makeup and foundation as I did back then ❤ thank you for this ! I was losing interest in makeup until I found your inspirational videos . Could you please and eye tutorial with these colors . Thank you, Giada from Italy
It confusing me so much. At sephora in too faced born this way they color matched me for shade pearl for fair with neutral to rosy undertone But with Mac I'm C4 Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation [ C: Cool (Golden, Olive undertones) ] - Peachy Golden with Golden undertone for Light to Medium skin Like what I'm I, just confusing to me. I'm the type that's gets red not a tan but red in the summer. I don't know people say differently I have pink rose undertone other says I have golden olive undertone 🤨 ugh lol
I can wear c4, nc27, or nc30/35. Depends on my lipstick lol. Lipsticks change the tone of my foundation. Reds makes me look brighter/lighter and some days I don’t want to look like Taylor swift so I’ll go a bit darker with my foundation.
@@missmeganrobinsonnI was super happy with the shades they recently put out and agree that the 5 range is now too light. My neck has almost no color so the nw5 turns orange and nc5 turns slightly yellow…so I recently tried the studio fix powder in N3 and it’s the closest match I’ve ever had. I’ve been loving your videos, they are super informative!
In Mac yellow golden is in category cool and cool pinks are warm. Everything upside down. And peach is cool too. I am yellow golden, but consultant gave me nc 3.5 wich made pink face sticked to yellow neck. So unprofessional
Omg!! Thank you for talking on the darker shades. I’m nw45. Now I understand why I can’t just do the powder and go. I actually use nc45 to conceal to middle parts of my face to help with the golden you talked about.
I am medium complexioned Nc30 is my shade. But pigmentation around my mouth makes the shade look weird on me. I tried mac nc 30 concealer. However concealer despite being same shade of my foundation is way too light for me
I started wearing MAC years ago and today when I try wearing NC or the C shades they look orange on me. I am a warm olive skin tone and can’t seem to find a shade. I have the new serum foundation in NC 38 and the tone is great however not dark enough going into summer. I also look better in cool eyeshadows.
@@missmeganrobinsonn omggg whaat? i know it takes a lot for you to change your products so i need a full video on this i love hearing your reasoning behind what you do to get the look you want! studio fix fluid... im so shook!
I stress overtone soooo much to artists. It literally can make or break the look. Like my pet peeve is a jawline that matches the center of the face in terms of brightness
I am in between a NC42 and NC44 neither are perfect and it sucks because I have to buy two to make it work I wish there was something in between so I wouldn’t have to buy two to get my actual shade
I’ve tried NW and NC and I just can’t find something that works for me. My issue is that my neck and chest are so red and any foundation looks yellow up against my neck and chest. Do you have any advice on how to get a more seamless transition between face, neck and chest?
That's not possible lol you could be neutral which pulls both undertones and tan doesn't really mean anything because you can tan pink or you could tan olive
I swear that I'm not either. I used the Mac website with the chat agent are those real beauty experts? Because I talked to three people there and none of them seem to know what color I need
I pray they make you a creative director for the whole brand! ❤
Literally let me go live in NY
This was incredibly helpful-watched it twice! Thank you for being an educator that influences instead of influencer who occasionally educates. 🔥

The way that the foundation covered your tattoo is crazy! That actually sold me

After decades of trying to make NC30 work on me, MAC finally created C40 perfect for olive-neutral undertone and sooo hard to find
Totally!

Best explanation of MAC Foundations.. apparently I was always getting the wrong undertones NW when I should have gotten NC 😅
Out here doing gods work. After so many similar tiktok comments I was like 🤚🏼

I always thought i was olive but i found out i have some peach undertones in me. 😮
Love this explanation! It took me a bit to get the hang of their shades, if only they would make an N1 in the studio fix powder and foundation lol.
nw5 would be the equivalent, tbh you look even a bit deeper than the nw or nc5

That lip combo though…❤
Ive always been NC 20 to 30 I recently bought the new studio fix nc27 and it is so orange .
Why did you buy a 27 when your starting shade is 20?
Which should I go for as light warm Olive Skin leaning towards warm?

Because that concealer matches your foundation, not pigmentation around the mouth. You need to colour correct
