Salim bhai, I am a dawoodi bohra from India, being a n Mustalian Ismaili my was intrigued by the aga khani faith though I had some aghakhani friends and my house was near their jamat khana, I never new anything about their faith as they were very tight lipped. I recommend reading Farhad Daftary's Ismailis their faith and doctrines to your views. Kudos you are doing a great job
Once again a superb episode. Brother Salim , take utmost safety measure for yourself. After all you are taking a stand against the assassins. You will be in my prayer.
@@salimlalani I am from Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh. A small number of Ismailis live here and they are very rich. As far as I know there are two Jamat Khanas in Dhaka. We never had any problem with them. When Aga Khan visits Bangladesh, he receives an welcome that very few other head of states receive. I was always interested to know about them and now I have found the source, i.e., your channel.
I was practicing Ismailism for the last 32 years of my life, but last year I reverted back to ISLAM. The concept of Ismailism was never cleared in my mind because of restrictions of questioning as u explained. We use to recite “Surah Fatiha” in the first part of dua and “Surah Ikhlaas” in the last part of dua. In the first part (Fatiha) it is clearly mentioned that we say “We worship Allah only, and we seek help from Allah only” then how can dodge our faith by Worshipping Imam and seeking help from Imam. In the last part (Ikhlaas), which reveals the One-ness of Allah Almighty, in which it is clearly mentioned that “There is One God, God is independent, God never give birth nor He is born by anyone, There is no one like Him”, and then we say that Imam is Allah, he depends on our Income which is generated in JK’s, We know the names of Imam’s Parents, we also know the names of their children, and there are many other people like Him in other fiqqah of Islam to whom they call (Baba, Peer, Murshad, Sarkaar etc.) Ismaili always claim that like there is Zakaat in Islam so we do have Dasond likewise. But still there is a difference. Zakat is to be paid to poor people, and Dasond is for Imam. Prophet (S.A.W) never ordered Muslims to pay the zakat to Him or His Ahl-e-Bait, but here its a different story. Even there is a difference in the rates also like 2.5% and 12.5%. One more thing, u can ask question that where is zakat going, but u can never ask any question abt dasond. Its an Ismaili belief that asking question about dasond or Imam is a sin/crime. Because they dont have answers for that. I remember, Once I questioned my Mother that where does Dasond go? “Dont ask questions about it, it is the Money of mowla and it is fire if u dont pay, it will burn you.” She replied. I just wanted to say the Keep it up, whatever you are doing is opening many eyes. The information you are giving with references are reasonable. The internal family life style of Aga Khan Family was never discussed in JK or any other institutions of Ismailies. Its all he game of blind faith. If i can help by any mean, I will be thankful. It is truely commendable. I know how difficult it is to get authentic knowledge on this subject. There is either no or misinformation. I'm sure u must be overwhelmed after years of working and waiting for this moments. I wd love to know your country of birth n childhood and congratulate u on gr8 work..
Once again, my comments may be long, but worth the time of readers who also appreciate pondering at both sides of a coin; metaphorically speaking. As commented earlier, Salim Lalani's presentations appear to be respectful to the subject matter. And they also likely appear to have good intentions behind them. However, his efforts involving his personal, perceptual and subjective interpretations on Aga Khan, have to be interpreted with both an open mind, and also as an act of his personal sincerity to others; if it has to have any educational and positive benefits. As a practicing Shia Ismaili Muslim myself, who is also a murid of the Murshid of the Ismaili Muslims tariqa; it is understandable that some of the Ismaili Muslims practises "may appear" to be misunderstood at the surface. However, the essence of these practices are very much consistent with the spirit of Islamic concept of Tawhid that blends in "seamlessly with the esoteric practices" of the pluralistic and mosaic of traditions without diluting the essence of Tawhid itself. Many of these traditions have found home with the Shia Ismaili Muslims. Also, some of these traditions on their own accord and free will, have historically chosen to show their affection with either material gifts, monetary gifts or affective poetries to the Ismaili Imam of time. This mosaic of pluralistic cultures historically, have integrated without any compulsion or force of any kind, into the Shia Ismaili Muslim tariqa upon their acceptance of the Ismaili Imam of time. Examples of traditions that make up the mosaic are: 1) The practice of Murshid-Murid relationship, compliments of Sufism tradition. 2) The Central Asian practices, compliments of Nasir Khusrav tradition. 3) The practices of Satpanthi Khojas, compliments of Satpanth tradition from the Indian sub-continent. 4) The practices of Arab Muslims, compliments of Middle Eastern traditions. 5) Etc. Without any doubt, the Shia Ismaili Muslims Constitution is the guiding document on the core doctrine of Shia Ismaili Muslims. The said constitution is approved by the Shia Ismaili Muslim's Imam of the time, and clearly articulates the following as a minimum: 1) The Ismaili Muslims core doctrine of the Tawhid, which is the belief in one God none other then Allah. 2) The historical and traditional references to the beginning of Imamat institution. 3) The role and the authority of the Imamat evolving not only as the Imam of time, but also implied as the Murshid of his murids. 4) No formal requirement whatsoever, of the need of material or monetary contributions, by Ismaili Muslims to their Imam. 5) Many other relevant facts. It is therefore imperative, that the Shia Ismaili Muslims doctrine and their faith practices should be understood from the focal point of the Shia Ismaili Muslim's constitution. And it should be read in the full context basis and not on cherry picked basis. Otherwise, it has a serious potential to be misunderstood and misconstrued. As a benefit to all the interested readers, a very important message: If any member of the Ismaili tariqa, the tariqa's secondary leadership or any other person who intentionally interprets the Ismaili Muslims faith and it's core beliefs other then as articulated in the guiding document of the Shia Ismaili Muslim's constitution; such a member, the secondary leadership or the person is not only misrepresenting the facts as intended; but is also doing a great dis-service to the Ismaili faith in general and the Shia Ismaili Muslim's Imam in particular. The later also being referred to as the current Aga Khan.
Mr Kassam Your long messages are not beneficial to encourage a rational debate. Reason being they digress from the topic at hand. What gives Agakhan the right to own the religious dues, claim ancestry from the prophet and promote literature that sells him as God. if your next comment is outside of these topics, I am afraid, I will have to block you from my channel Salim
@@salimlalani As a gesture of courtesy to you, I will accord you with a one time response: 1) My sincere apologies that you find my comments not beneficial for a rational debate. Therefore, I see no need for a debate. 2) Nonetheless, my comments do respond directly to the title of your presentations. 3) Naturally, it is your prerogative to block anyone you may wish from your channel. I admire your courage Salim sahab. May Almighty protect you. Human beings search for Truth but many of us do not have the courage to accept the truth. Even when we find there is something wrong in our belief system, we continue being part of it . Once a renowned Khoja writer told me that khojas were not "Muslim" but worshipers of Vishnu. Through your videos I found that to be true. Please keep us the good work. Humanity needs to know about all Gurus and Imams who misguide their flock.
Khoja is more of an ethnic description as opposed to a religious one, there may be Hindus in there. I wish you had spiritual experience of baitul khayal where true ismailism holds it’s core value & that spiritual power is what keeping this community alive. Unfortunately 99% of us ismailies are poorly knowledge about their religion and history that’s what makes them very vulnerable since they are busy in materialism and forget about akhrat. Whenever these questions are asked, they panic due to lack knowledge. You Should have done research of ginans, and shashtras like anant akhado, jannat puri, brahm prakash etc You said imam of the time send pir sadrdin from egypt to india for dawa just to convert hindus to ismailism because india was goldengoose at that time, truth is sects that were converted weren’t rich kings and princes, mayors but farmers from small villages or low income traders they could barely afford a shelter. Secondly our pir have traveled to various places for dawa not just india, but iran, afghan, gilgit, tajik, xinjian. Infact our pir weren’t alone on journeys of dawa there were lots of are mystics in india like nizamudin awuliya, khwaja moinudin, and other sufi orders like maddariya, qadariya, razzaqiah, chishtiya, Naqshbandiya, shadhiliye etc which here in same time period & just like our pir & imam they trace their lineage to prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, through ALI Peace be upon him, Which makes shia’ism more sense.Third point just because ginans are written in colloquial language doesn’t mean that they were produced with an aim of brainwash. pir made them in local language so locals can understand true essence without any distortion which language barrier causes same way you will find rumi writing mystism in farsi, bulleh shah in punjabi. Amir khusrou in hindavi and farsi. Last, most of our council leaders are corrupted& into in internal politics for their own personal interests. they themselves don’t know what they doing most of the make senseless decisions & give senseless responses due to lack of religious knowledge. Most of words don’t make their way to imam. I myself was poorly educated about my religion by my parents and jamati community. I didn’t even bothered myself for going Rec & jk its rituals, niyaz etc went on for 6-7 years. but there’s was always a question ‘what’s necessity for religion in life’ I started doing all research off & online when through all religions and their beliefs. There’s a saying when you take one step towards god he takes 10 steps towards you. Relevant Informations were started coming toward me from all directions as if they were co incidents in repetitive manner & some how was guided to granths and most importantly baitul khyal. What ever Agha khan is and in which ever way he is doing things is still much better than any other Muslim sects and Muslim governments. Agha khan provided protection, education, health and opportunities to its followers. Which Muslim government come close to the efforts and dedication that Agha khan brought forward for the success and comfort of its followers. Everyone anywhere in the world should pay tax and in return get better life. Which Muslim sect is getting the highest returns from its tax paid non other than Agha khan followers. Propaganda based on jealousy and misunderstanding accuse Ismailis as someone who accepted Agha khan as a God but in reality Agha Khan is appointed with blessing of God to lead its followers toward success.
I personally will give you and the Ismaili immamat the benefit of the doubt but for me personally, the only unfiltered first hand information I can get is from defectors. So, this channel is an important look inside the jammatkhana albeit from someone who is engaged in anti-Ismaili polemics. Why not just have a culture of openness to begin with instead of cloaking everything in secrecy? I understand the historical basis for the secrecy but still, it creates a culture which encourages an abuse of power in my opinion... Also, to give Salim here an equal benefit of the doubt, I haven't seen him object to any of the positive aspects. He seems to be criticizing the abuse of power and the internal lack of transparency.
@John Johny Talk about propaganda, that thing reads like it was drafted at Ismaili HQ! The money for charitable projects comes from government and corporate donors, and as articles on the inside Ismailism website expose, Aga Khan institutions seem to have unjustly profited from projects that they claimed were charitable. The charity work is being done with taxpayer money in the first place, but the Aga Khan puts his logo on it and claims responsibility, and to make matters worse it looks like he is skimming off some for himself. If you give me $10 to give to charity, and I give $8 to charity and secretly keep $2 for myself, is that a good deed or a bad deed? Should I be allowed to boast that I have given $8 dollars to charity when that wasn’t my money to begin with, and I have unjustly profited from the whole arrangement? This is why public-private projects are considered to be so corrupt. The wealthy private corporation behind it always gets rich while doing less for good causes than they are obliged to do after receiving public funding.
@@whatamievendoing you sound very intelligent but also a bit naive. Claiming to be of benefit to their communities because most members aren’t defectors and love the cult leader is exactly how most cults survive. And you’ve hit the nail on the head by identifying the fact that there is so much corroborating evidence from Ismaili whistleblowers and they can never be effectively refuted because what goes on inside jamatkhanas is top secret and no outsiders are allowed to observe it. Aga Khan isn’t looking to win the argument. He knows that is impossible. If he could prove that Ismaili whistleblowers are lying, all he would have to do is open up the jamatkhanas to observers, and publish some accounts on how much money he takes and where it goes. The only strategies left for him to use are propaganda to cloud people’s perception and divergence of attention away from the crucial issue at hand - that he happily accepts large sums of money from people who have been indoctrinated to believe he is God on earth. He has done nothing to stop those people paying him, nothing to offer them a refund, nothing to offer them justice for the damage done to their minds, and nothing to ensure that he won’t keep taking money from those vulnerable members of his community.

It is certainly a worrying situation however in a way he is better off being out and open in the public than if he stayed silent because now it would look very suspicious if Salim suddenly disappeared or something. Arguably a worse position to be in would be if they knew he was going to be a whistleblower and they got to him before he went public. Also I would think that character assassination and slander against him is more likely than physical violence. Remember, they need to discredit him. If they kill him, they turn him into a kind of martyr and give him even more credibility. There’s a good chance that there will be some accusations made against his character; probably false or at least exaggerated.
@Sychonot most cults are not violent, if that’s what you mean by peaceful. Scientologists are peaceful, that doesn’t make everything ok. And to bring up the Aga Khan’s character..I mean, how much more discredited can someone be as a spiritual leader? As a billionaire, socialite, philanthropist, celebrity, ok he has credibility there.
The authority of the Aga Khan was established in an 1866 court decision by the British. Prior to this, there were Ismailis in the Khoja community who did not accept Aga Khan as their leader which leads me to an interesting question: why can't you be an Ismaili without the Aga Khan? Would the absence of the leadership have left you with a more pleasant view of Ismaili theology? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aga_Khan_case
I have made this point myself to Ismailis. Just because they want to stay together as a community shouldn’t mean they have to continue to degrade themselves and submit to a shady cult leader propped up by the British Empire. This issue causes difficulty for many members of the Ismaili community who want to morally object to the Aga Khan’s authority but don’t want to feel like they are turning their backs on their friends and families. Ultimately they have to be brutally honest and see that their oppressor isn’t just the Aga Khan, but also the people around them who don’t want them to be free to reject the Aga Khan’s authority.

@@universalgraphite7681 I admire your devotion to Aga Khan. You have unquestionable faith and willingness to serve the imam without question. You remind me of Palestinian youths. I did a piece on why these youths would wear suicide vests and blow themselves up along with other bystanders as part of my history degree. I had the opportunity of meeting and interviewing them too. I concluded that blind faith, naivety, delusion amongst others factors led them to do it without question. I can picture you in your willingness and eagerness to do the same if chosen and asked to do the same by your imam. I can picture you being asked to don a suicide vest in the middle of the Jamat Khana and trigger the detonator if asked by your imam. It would not matter that the Jamat Khana was filled up with women as well as children. You would would you not? After all Sultan Muhammed Shah has said in his fireman has he not, that night is night even if its day and vice versa and its so because your imam says so?
In the last part (Ikhlaas), which reveals the One-ness of Allah Almighty, in which it is clearly mentioned that “There is One God, God is independent, God never give birth nor He is born by anyone, There is no one like Him”, and then we say that Imam is Allah, he depends on our Income which is generated in JK’s, We know the names of Imam’s Parents, we also know the names of their children, and there are many other people like Him in other fiqqah of Islam to whom they call (Baba, Peer, Murshad, Sarkaar etc.)
Ismaili always claim that like there is Zakaat in Islam so we do have Dasond likewise.

REAL GOD IS PERFECT IN EVERY SENSE & NEVER DIES.
Examples of traditions that make up the mosaic are:
1) The practice of Murshid-Murid relationship, compliments of Sufism tradition.
The said constitution is approved by the Shia Ismaili Muslim's Imam of the time, and clearly articulates the following as a minimum:
1) The Ismaili Muslims core doctrine of the Tawhid, which is the belief in one God none other then Allah.
Mr Kassam
Your long messages are not beneficial to encourage a rational debate. Reason being they digress from the topic at hand.
What gives Agakhan the right to own the religious dues, claim ancestry from the prophet and promote literature that sells him as God.
if your next comment is outside of these topics, I am afraid, I will have to block you from my channel
Salim
@@salimlalani As a gesture of courtesy to you, I will accord you with a one time response:
1) My sincere apologies that you find my comments not beneficial for a rational debate. However, the Shia Ismailia Muslim Constitution that I have provided as a reference document; speaks clearly for itself and provides all the prevailing facts including answers to most of your questions. Therefore, I see no need for a debate.
2) Nonetheless, my comments do respond directly to the title of your presentations.
3) Naturally, it is your prerogative to block anyone you may wish from your channel. The danger is; it may very well be construed and very easily perceived by all the open minded viewers, that you are consciously censoring the well intended and factual comments in your channel.

Dear Salimbhai - I saw all episodes but I wanted your approach to be more balanced. You're a journalist. Your job is to present the facts and let the audience make up their mind. You Should have done research of ginans, and shashtras like anant akhado, jannat puri, brahm prakash etc
You said imam of the time send pir sadrdin from egypt to india for dawa just to convert hindus to ismailism because india was goldengoose at that time, truth is sects that were converted weren’t rich kings and princes, mayors but farmers from small villages or low income traders they could barely afford a shelter.
I practiced shariah, tariqa and finally It took me about 5-6 months to have my first experience in bandagi. I became Ismaili by that ruhani experience not by birth

@@universalgraphite7681 Now no one will have answer for this.
@John Johny
Talk about propaganda, that thing reads like it was drafted at Ismaili HQ!
@@universalgraphite7681 people aren’t trying to interfere in your business. Ex-Ismailis have been scarred by their experience and often have to watch family members continue to be controlled by a highly effective and secretive system of indoctrination. This has caused turmoil and distress in the lives of many ex-Ismailis who have dissented and refused to submit to the mobs around them.
You are entitled to whatever beliefs you like, but you must open your eyes and see that they are not logical. People ARE being hurt. This ISNT victimless.

If your faith has given you what you want, congratulations
I hope Salim is safe. You know these Ismailis are mafias too
It is certainly a worrying situation however in a way he is better off being out and open in the public than if he stayed silent because now it would look very suspicious if Salim suddenly disappeared or something.
@@mrsanio1574 I think this touches on a broader issue, the fact that Shias in general view Imams as "infallible". The Sunnis have this view too of the prophet and particularly the sahabah (companions). In either case, I don't understand the theological and textual basis for elevating people to this status. No one person, prophet or Imam, is infallible.
@@mrsanio1574 granted that Ismailis are better off, that concept of viewing people as infallible leads to social errors. Personally, I have a pleasant view of Ismaili theology but viewing someone as above criticism and beyond reproach is too much

@@abdillahijalalkhan2128 Yeah but mainstream Sunni Muslims kind of hold that view. They also view the companions as infallible even if they don't say it despite the fact that the conflict between Ali and the companions created a rift which lasts to this day.

Sir, can you please research into the Bohra properties acquired through litigation in Bombay by Aga Khan

ALY(AS) after a
brief hesitation gave
his allegiance to
ABUW BAKAR (RA),
the most senior and
closest of the
PROPHET'S Companions, as the
1st KHALIFAH of the
MUSLIYM UMMAH and served loyally
under him.
Otherwise he would
have fought against him the way he later fought against
MUAWIYYAH (RA).
AND if it was true that he was ordained
by ALLAAWH(SLW )to be the 1st Successor
Of the PROPHET (SAW) nothing could
have stood in his way
and he would have
been the 1st KHALIFAH even if he himself was reluctant
to be so.
If it was the WILL
of ALLAAWH that
ALY was to be the
1st IMAAM or KHALIFAH, and he
did not claim that Privilege whatever
opposition he was faced with , and from any quarter, than that would have shown a gross dereliction of
duty on his part , a
Moral failure, and
an admission of
Cowardice and the
lack of leadership
required to guide
the UMMAH.
Can anyone accuse
ALY of being such a
person?
He later gave his allegiance to
UMAR and UTHMAAN,(RA) the
2nd and 3rd KHALIFAHS,
advising them wisely
and loyally serving under them.
He even married his
Daughter LADY UMMUL KULTHUWM,
(AS) whose Mother
was LADY FAATIMAH
(AS) , the daughter of
the PROPHET to
UMAR, the 2nd
KHALIFAH.
UMAR in turn gave
two captive
Princesses of the
Persian Emporer
to ALY to choose in
marriage.ALY declined saying he was too
old, but would give
them to his Sons
AL HASAAN, and AL
HUSAYN(AS) who
Married them and so
started the lineage of the AHLU BAYT.
If ALY did not
recorgnise or accept
UMAR as KHALIFAH,
but only as an usurper, would he have married him to his daughter?
Would the AHLU
BAYT PROGENY of
AL HASAN and AL
HUSAIN be legitimate
If their Mothers were
not obtained legally
In a Holy War or were given to them for
Marriage by a false and illegitimate KHALIFAH?

I concluded that blind faith, naivety, delusion amongst others factors led them to do it without question.
