It is an amazing achievement and incredible testament to your love and care that Carl and Debbie did the impossible. They hatched eggs naturally in Texas with no help!!! That's amazing. The "experts" know that hatching is only the beginning, surviving the next 4-7 months is the real problem. Keeping warm, not getting injured, getting enough food and water, not getting trampled or suffocated, not getting too much exposure to stress and their environment.

Kim mention that both you and her have lost a lot of babies to hawks and that is scary to think about! This is going to be cool to see how many babies do hatch!
I was thinking about chicken wire too and the extra work that it will entail to install is well worth it. Well, easy for me to say since I'm not doing the work lol.

Jami,. From what I've been watching in an area of 4 Ostriches and 11 babies, they All take care of them! I'm not surprised to see baby go under Tina or for Tina to accept it. I'm having a rough time writing to you. I cut a large portion of my index finger off last night. It's going to be a rough few months healing, if it does. Chopping potatoes, onions, then 😱 OH MY GOD! It's funny how animals sense those sort of things. Congratulations on your 3 new additions. I posted on Lesters page that you might want to call Jordan Patch at Animal Adventure Park, the home of April the giraffe and her baby Taj, to see if maybe he wants one of the babies when it's time. He has a small, nonprofit, animal park in upstate New York. Very loving and caring family who own this Animal Park. Several of their animals have been raised in their own home. Just a thought because I don't think they have an ostrich. Thank you Jami for sharing this wonderful little visit with the baby ostrich.

I love how curious and gentle all the other babies are being. Pebbles and Roxy and The Golden Girl. Even Ringo and Newton came over gentle like to see what was going on. On the ground that baby ostrich looks so tiny but when you picked it up it looks so much bigger. This is so exciting for Carl and Debbie. Great video I can’t wait to see how many hatch. 💛😊

It's the first time for everyone and "experts" have shown what their opinions are worth. Unless there's some researcher in Africa who's studied wild hatchings. 🙏 Hope everything continues going well. I've seen a video of a "herd" of chicks and they were beyond adorable!!!! Now you'll be able to hand raise them and get them used to being loved on and people orientated like PawPaw's babies. I was thinking JMD for Jami's Mother's Day. When I was young we found an abandoned puppy on Mother's Day. I immediately named it MD for Mother's Day aka My Darlin' - it didn't matter if it was male or female, the name worked. He was a wonderful baby for 17yrs.

Agreed. I wish they could go in the nursery where it's enclosed and safer. But we just have to hope it doesn't get back through the fence, because Carl and Debbie can't come through to rescue it. The "experts" know that hatching is only the beginning, surviving the next 4-7 months is the real problem. Keeping warm, not getting injured, getting enough food and water, not getting trampled or suffocated, not getting too much exposure to stress and their environment.

Kim mention that both you and her have lost a lot of babies to hawks and that is scary to think about! This is going to be cool to see how many babies do hatch!
I was thinking about chicken wire too and the extra work that it will entail to install is well worth it. Well, easy for me to say since I'm not doing the work lol.

She didn't want cornholio anywhere near that baby but allowed you to pick it up and give it back to her. Carl has always seemed to trust you too. The must sense the goodness you have in your heart. It's funny how animals sense those sort of things. Congratulations on your 3 new additions. I posted on Lesters page that you might want to call Jordan Patch at Animal Adventure Park, the home of April the giraffe and her baby Taj, to see if maybe he wants one of the babies when it's time. He has a small, nonprofit, animal park in upstate New York. Very loving and caring family who own this Animal Park. Several of their animals have been raised in their own home. Just a thought because I don't think they have an ostrich. Thank you Jami for sharing this wonderful little visit with the baby ostrich.

I love how curious and gentle all the other babies are being. Pebbles and Roxy and The Golden Girl. Even Ringo and Newton came over gentle like to see what was going on. On the ground that baby ostrich looks so tiny but when you picked it up it looks so much bigger. This is so exciting for Carl and Debbie. Great video I can’t wait to see how many hatch. 💛😊

The first time baby plopped on its butt was sooo cute. And those huge feet!! Reminds me of Roadrunner cartoons ☝ 😅 It's hard to tell who's more asea... the ostrich parents or rhe human ones. It's the first time for everyone and "experts" have shown what their opinions are worth. Unless there's some researcher in Africa who's studied wild hatchings. 🙏 Hope everything continues going well. I've seen a video of a "herd" of chicks and they were beyond adorable!!!! Now you'll be able to hand raise them and get them used to being loved on and people orientated like PawPaw's babies. I was thinking JMD for Jami's Mother's Day. When I was young we found an abandoned puppy on Mother's Day. I immediately named it MD for Mother's Day aka My Darlin' - it didn't matter if it was male or female, the name worked. He was a wonderful baby for 17yrs.

It does make me nervous about how small they are and how easily they can wander out of the pasture into who knows where with no way back without help. Prayers that this little miracle (and any other siblings that hatch) get through these next few weeks safe and sound.
Agreed. I wish they could go in the nursery where it's enclosed and safer. But we just have to hope it doesn't get back through the fence, because Carl and Debbie can't come through to rescue it.
