I have a 2006 boxer, which i bought new. Its been excellent. 120000 miles with no major issues whatsoever. So impressed i went out last week and bought a new 2023 model..
Tom here: You're not wrong on that count... sales alone on those other 2 are daunting. But... the Boxer is a lot of van for less money. I'd still choose it if you're a heavy user.
Have you had the opportunity to review and drive the American Ram Promaster version of this van? It has some significant differences from this Peugeot Boxer. It comes with a petrol Pentastar 3.6 L v6 with 280 SAE NET hp 3.6 L and 260 foot pounds of torque plus a fully automatic with lockup torque converter 6 speed transmission with a tow/haul mode. It also has a park position for the gear selector. Plus it comes with 16 inch wheels instead of the 15 inch wheels on this van. The seats are trimmed out a bit different with different arm rests, fabric covered head rests, driver and passenger front and side curtain air bags, and now a backup camera as standard equipment. It also has a large drink cup holder as standard equipment. Power front door windows are standard. The standard brembo 4 Wheel disk brakes are bigger than thin this vans. 4 wheel ABS and ESC are standard along with traction control. The Promaster gets the 270 degree rear opening doors as standard equipment. Plus since it’s over 80 inches wide, it gets roof mounted clearance lights. However, we are stuck with the previous generation bonnet and headlights. Like your current ones better.
I drive the minibus version. I had only ever driven Transit minibuses before which I love. This is terrible for seat postion and I cant find a comfortable place. I am tall and the floor pan is too high leaving my knees up. I have to raise the seat which means my head is very high and nearly touching the shelf above dash, and the seat does not go back far enough. Also the engine feels nowhere near the tranny and being front wheel drive is odd compared to the rear wheel Fords. Shifting from 4th to 5th does your back in , the gearbox rough and stiff. Transit has a car drive feel about it, this for sure feels like a van ( a bread van). Saying that there are things I do like, it looks nice and it should be reliable.
I drive it everyday at work. Its a beast nice acceleration , no problems with van basically the only problem here is the seat . Its not comftortable for long distances i think. Otherwise all good
Great review. One note. New Euro 6b Jumper(Relay) and Boxer share the same PSA engine, but not Ducato. Ducato has an Iveco engine which does not need adblue to meet Euro 6b. Not having adblue system is a huge cost saving feature.
I actually like the Peugeot Boxer, looks original, non generic and very fun to drive or live with. It should be cheap to maintain I suppose. Mercedes messed up with the new Sprinter, going all curvy. Whilst the VW crafter is jolly beautiful, it feels like it's a generic choice, everyone buys them along with the Sprinter. The renault master/vauxhall movano... don't know, maybe lack of identity in them? But yeah, I'd choose the Peugeot boxer because I want to avoid the herd of sheep that go for the German duo (mercedes and VW).
Tom here: I think you hit the nail on the head - lack of identity from some angles. Still have their plus points, and all of them have their fans. The Boxer's a workhorse. Tough as nails, in my book.
BMWdayWhatyouwant I drive a boxer and everyone at work hates them. The handbrake is very far down, and hurts your back when applying it. The electronics are terrible, numerous lights not working and constant door open warnings despite it being shut. When it rains, the dashboard reads 30 mph when stationary. Only good thing is the engines are strong and reliable
@@vanaramauk as we agreed, PSA engines are cockroaches, they'd probably survive an atomic explosion! But the electronics can be the only let down (similar to my Peugeot 807 which I had back then). Who said only Toyota build indestructible cars, aye?! 😂

I've spotted a blanking cover, I'm gonna make this motion because I've never heard of accessory options before😂 To drive they're good but to be a passenger those seats will give you a bad back, they're terrible.
I prefer this over a Transit or Merc Sprinter. They are comfortable although the seating position is a bit weird but I am shorter guy so that isn't a major issue. It is also one of the most fuel efficient van's in its class.
check measurements everyone. this guy says the load width is 1m.80. that freaked me as i have just bought one and was told by the dealer that the interior width was 1m 87. i called vanarama and the guy i spoke to said it was about 1m 80......and then agreed that if i wanted an exact figure then it was 1m 87. 7cm makes all the difference if you plan to sleep in it sideways.

That looks like the old one new one out September 69 plate gos back to 2.2 cc engine on 3d one we get new ones every 3 years never had electronics problems satnav a bit slow sometimes and it seems to drive nicer .smoother on the rd must have changed damping
Tom here: We've got a new one coming in soon - review to come. Lucky you getting a new one every few years - just like when you lease, drive, enjoy, upgrade, new van. Boom!
2020? that's a 68 plate 😂 I'm back in my old 19 plate boxer at work. exactly the same as what your reviewing. excellent fuel economy considering its size and power, I believe mine is 130bhp. mine has the ANNOYING slam locks on the back which I hate! I like the layout of the interior, like you said it's very tough and nicely layed out. I dont however like the adjustment of the steering column nor the height adjustment of the drivers seat, I'm not going to lie, I'm what you could call a 'tall midget' lol so you can imagine there is a lot of stretching involved for me to manoeuvre the van 😂 the sat nav is a nice touch though not very reliable. stereo is very easy to use and very clear like you said. oh and the handbrake is in the wrong place 😂 fantastic reliability though, instant start up even on a cold start. I will put out that all my works 19 plate boxers all share the same flaw though, every now and then the immobiliser will kick in, simple disconnect the battery which is located inside the cabin under the removable floor panel , disconnect for 5 or 10 mins and reconnect, engine will fire up fine afterwards
Tom here: Look at that, we're kindred spirits when it comes to the Boxer. A lot to like about it, a few little issues but they're mainly cosmetic - the engine is what brings me back. Surprising power.
I have a 20 plate from new, It broke down about 7 months ago and, Is still at the dealership now apparently & finally getting a brand new engine fitted due to eating engine oil for no apparent reason (Used one litre of oil per 200 miles) It had done 70k before It did breakdown on 3rd & final time, (Injector problem & using oil) and I can honestly say the van has crippled me during that time. The vans are pretty quick but noisy when running, there Is nothing else I could say Is good about the Boxer, I'm due to get this same van back with a new engine In the next few weeks and I'm dreading It, to the point of giving up my job due to the driving position. It's got to be the biggest pile of crap I've driven In my 49 year lifetime, I've nothing positive to say about the vans.
There Is one good thing about these vans😁When It breaks down your company will hire you a transit or sprinter, because van hire company's don't buy Boxer's 👍
Cup holders are useless. Also they tell you that you can play music from your phone. You can't. Driving position is bad because you can't get reach adjustment for the steering. Lower dash impedes you clutch leg. What a mess.
