  • Predjama castle in Slovenia is mysterious castle with amazing story. Predjama castle was build in the middle of a 120 meter or 400 feet high rocky cliff 800 years ago. Castle is partly build in the natural cave and is connected to the cave system. According to the Guinness Book of World Records Predjama is the world's largest cave castle and is often on the list of haunted castles. No wonder Ghost Hunters International dedicated one of the episodes to this castle. Predjama even attracted RUclips superstar PewDiePie. Predjama Castle has a fascinating legend about its owner robber knight and a secret passageway that made the besieging armies powerless. This castle is so special and unique, that it ranks among the ten most fascinating castles in the world. It is located near town Postojna in Slovenia, about 60 kilometres from Ljubljana. Visit of Predjama can easily be part of a day trip from Ljubljana. The best way to see it is by getting a combined ticket when visiting Postojna cave.

    Wish the US was old enough to have had castles to explore but we're a pretty young country in the grand scheme. It's a shame I had to cancel my trip to Europe due to COVID but I'm looking forward to taking the month long trip I originally intended on taking. The most romantic "castle" we have here stateside would have to be Boldt Castle in the thousand islands that was left unfinished back in 1904, it's not old but it certainly has an interesting history.

    This may sound very morbid but I wonder how many people died trying to build this castle and it's walls. And then again when it was renovated. You know with where it is located, and the lack of the technologies that we have in modern days, that many very likely died creating this masterpiece. Just a thought. ~Peace!

    Nice great history video about the castle. It looks a bit as the castles we saw in Czech Republic, which isn't strange because they are neighbors. How expensive is it to visit the place? How would you get there and do you think it is worth it? Subbed btw ;)

    • @rokgoesaround
      @rokgoesaround  4 года назад +2

      Thanks for sub. Actually this is in Slovenia, not neighbouring country of Czech Republic, that is Slovakia - can be confusing. But you are absolutely right, it is similar as at the time the castle was build it was part of the same empire as big part of Czech Republic - Austrian Empire.

      Good to know, when they took us to Postojna they didnt take us but that was 2006 so maybe tourism was still developing back then in the 'post war' era. Yes Slovenia was not part of the war but all of Yugo was lumped together in terms of perception.
