  • Keep in mind that you don't need to give orders to Intercept Rho and Nu Gunships. They have their orders to attack enemy fighters.

Seeing all of those munitions hit the Carthage and her screen, absolutely beautiful.

I've never seen so many munitions needed to whittle down an Orion destroyer until this mission lol
And then Admiral goes off for "wasting space frames"

    Nice!
    - But (Warning: Douchebag lines inbound ;) : I've been able to destroy Legionary+Leander, disable Radhanite, destroy the 4 tankers, disable the escaping hospital frigate, disable 3 to 4 escaping troop transports, destroy the two minelayers and disable the two blocking corvettes - withouth loosing a single ship! (Pride!)
Start by ordering your wingmen to protect Serenity (you can order one or two of them to kill off the forward tankers) while you rush towards the two escaping corvettes (divert energy to your afterburners, as there will be no fighters after you here). Take out their four forward laser turrets (use grimlers) and let gunnery do the rest (they are already targeted). Rush to Radhanite and disable it while you re-stock ammo. Order your wingmen to kill the rest of the tankers one by one as you re-stock and disable Radhanite. Chances are that the Atalantas will see you, so be careful! Order your wingmen to go for the Auroras.
Disarm the left Mjolnir, and the Carthage main beam (not so important) and the right Mjolnir. Re-stock. Rush to the hospital frigate (again, boost energy to afterburners in order to reach it in time) to the right flank and disable it. Move towards the station and disable the troop transports preparing for escape as you re-stock as necessary. Beware Atalantas and a wing of Kulas.
Order your gunnery to target the minelayers first and Carhtage as the last target. Rise a bit and kill the Charybdis radar domes or order your wingmen to do it if the have taken out the Auroras.
Infiltrate the Station with the virus. Infiltrate Iolanthe and Deianira and go far out behind them. Refill and start diabling them. Ignore the radar domes on Carthage altogether. Order your wingmen to engage on their own discretion or if low on time order them to start disabling the Carhtage.
You should be (if you're lucky) able to disable the Carhtage yourself with the help of your wingmen (who cannot be killed). If stressed for time order wingmen to engage at will and call in Precision Strike to kill off Cathages engines. Order them to bug out as soon as the job is done.
At this time you may as well call in the Solaris to finish off the job. Remember, you want this done with as little amount of casualties as possible.
If successful, you may bag: 1xOrion Destroyer + 3 Corvettes captured. 2 corvettes destroyed along with 2 minelayers, 4 tankers and a hospital frigate + the troop transports (those will not (glitch) surrender so they will be killed by gunfire as soon as Solaris enters the scene). All of this is possible with not a single airframe lost! (But even with good practice, this succeeds in one out of 50 playthroughs for me. It's tuff! ;)
    Happy hunting! :)

Notes: If you loose (or withdraw) just a single of the missile frigates, everthing becomes quite a lot harder (with regard to destroying the minelayers and especially beating down Carhtage in the endgame). The Prize Jewel in the Crown is to do all of the above without calling in the Solaris. It is possible, but I don't think I've done it more than a couple of times. It all depends on, how much punishment the Carthage has taken and how much damage it is taking in the endgame. They will be repairing their engines after you have disabled them, and if you are not beating them into submission in (five?) minutes, they will restore jump-drive and bug out. Therefore the calling-in of Solaris, as they deal a lot of damage and quickly forces the Carhtage to surrender.
But - just to make it even more annoyingly challenging, it IS possible to do all of the above victories/captures without loosing a single airframe and even withouth calling in the Solaris.
I'd say - one in a hundred playthroughs?
But nothing beats that feeling! ;)

I liked the old music for the second half, although the first half of the mission definitely has an improved music track.

5:57 It's so epic what can be done with a game from 1999 (!)
