    This story KINDA resembles that one Cutscene in Halo 1, where the Gravemind was trying to consume Captain Key's and was ripping away memories and only keeping the useful ones. And keys (Much like the main character in this story) was throwing numerous other memories at the gravemind in hopes of slowing him down. Ultimately, he lost to the gravemind because his willpower and stamina couldn't hold out any longer. And the flood was able to obtain the information they needed from keys.

    Another great story. I wasnt expecting a tale of discovery and desperation. This encapsulates the mentality of an explorer, you know that the unknown exists, and you dont stop, you explore in spite of it. And the actions of an individual or small group of individuals can have far further reaching effects than anything we could imagine. No one is insignificant.
    This story filled me with a sense of hope and pride that i never though the horror genre could instill. Its wonderful.

      The Dark Somnium plus it was heavily concentrated and deliberately aimed at a particular spot. Think like a Tractor Beam from Star Wars. It’s nothing that humanity has ever experienced so it was a shock to them, hence why they didn’t know how to react.

    • @PitterPatter20
      @PitterPatter20 5 лет назад +27

      According to all known laws of physics, it is impossible to direct gravity in a single direction. Anything with a gravitational pull will eminate that gravity in all directions simultaneously and at the same strength. It's also not possible for the force of a gravitational pull to vary to any significant degree unless a lot of mass is added or removed.
      Basically, even though it's a gravitational anomaly, there's no way that NASA could be prepared for the described gravitational effects.

    • @Darksomnium
      @Darksomnium  5 лет назад +15

      @@Darksomnium My take of it is that this could have something to do with the abnormally large mass of the Machine itself, and figuring it could bend space-time, to harness a pull like this would be an easy task due to the sheer bunk of mass it seemed to have.

    • @vaporwingfauxmcloud1190
      @vaporwingfauxmcloud1190 Год назад

      It's sad that humans are painted as this "Valiant race" that always helps one another and makes humans the heroes against the alien warlords that threaten the universe... we delude ourselves in thinking we are so brave in real life too.. We are far from heroes. We think that by creating stuff and things we use daily like music and books and the internet and big buildings and other things created throughout time, we essentially are the heroes right?
      I don't think so. Humans are a plague. A disgusting excuse of a species that thrives off of even leeching off our own kind their wills to live, instill societal standards amongst one another and monetize everything so that we can force people who don't want to follow social norms into doing so unhappily... we thrive off of allowing humans to buy and sell humans on a foreign, hidden market, we imprison men and women for taking a life or someone's belongings or money from banks or stores or even doing drugs if they have nothing in their lives and then punish people who do said drugs because we think other's pains are easy to go through and that everyone is built the same but in reality, anything the shows us that we are the villains gets dug deep within our minds so we can gleefully and greedily consume everything while taking from others despite having enough and we don't stop even after the victims pass away from unaliving themselves... We are villains. We embrace being villains because it's assumed that we should prevent others from achieving their dreams and goals because even knowing that we live one life makes us feel powerful when we ruin opportunities or things that they want. Humans are vile creatures that don't deserve sympathy from the universe and beyond. Too much which was given to us is stained in red, the color of blood and we take that for granted and profit...

    I've heard some cool stories since I discovered this society of modern bards. I confess that I have been listening to Nature's Temper for the past few months at bedtime. His voice is just so damn smooth, I usually fall asleep before the endings.
    I come here for the exciting stuff though, and this one did not disappoint. At this point, I'm calling this the best story I've listened to yet. It had me standing in my room like a fool, half dressed, staring at the wall while the shower I had started ran unused until the image of the earth described in the story reminded me of the clean water and gas I was wasting. Wow.... THAT was really a great story.
    This story, was like.. how the criminal psychologist in the first Terminator movie, described Reeces "delusion. "
    "This is the PERFECT delusion, because it doesn't provide or require a shred of proof. "
    Excellent story.. Incredible narration.. awesome background sound effects.
    Bravo... Bravo.
    What will you do, for an encore?

    This really is your best work Somni! Your Magnum Opus. I can't count how many times I've listened to this but you did an amazing job with this one. The narration along with the sound effects were spot on. The music that plays while he's communicating with the Machine is incredible. Everything is perfectly timed! I really would love to see this as a short film and in all honesty, it plays as a film in my mind by the smallest details and descriptions that are conjured. Jesse Clark did an incredible job writing this, that is one talented and imaginative S.O.B 😊 I REALLY really appreciate this one Somni...I love it 👏

    That’s a really cool story. Crazy space machine ate so many stars and galaxies it needed to open up random wormholes to figure out which direction more food was. You’d think think it would figure out its actions were unsustainable. So maybe it had some goal that required a certain size or energy level? It’s probably just an allegory for the oil industry...

    Excellent story and narration! Loved all the other voices - they timed well and sounded natural. This gives us a hint of what that final resignation is when you realize you have to sacrifice yourself for the good of everyone else and the quiet acceptance it brings with it.

    A scifi story turned into a creepypasta, never thought anyone would pick him for the centerpiece of a story, but it does make sense.

    how stupid do you have to be to go after the star populated by the most suicidal race in the galaxy. I guarantee he had starwars in his memories, the ship should have seen the death star explode and been like " oh shit, I ain't that hungry."
