Loved him for his grace, eloquence, choice of words and the way he handled friends and enemies alike with the only difference that he wore a velvet glove over an iron fist while dealing with enemies. Such a fascinating character.

It saddens me because this series was amazing, but I’ve learned so much more about my own history since the day I first watched it. It’s as if Hirst had a gcse pass grade history student advising him on how to build the western world. As if in 800AD the whole of Britannia was England, and the whole of Scandinavia was Norway… there’s no mention of frisians, the welsh, the Picts, or basically any of the Irish. And the brits are puny victims while the pagans are legendary…

If only he was born in Roman Britain he could have reached far in the civilia colegia and then an internship in Italy, perhaps Ravenna or Melodianum. Then upon return he would be a great candidate for commander of Britain, perhaps a native Briton would be the first commander to be filled to the brim by love of Britain, it's hedges and meadows. That Britannia would endure.

It is one of bishop Heahmund visions of hell. Might be season 5 episode 15 if I'm not mistaken. The one with the battle of Marton.
