@@AprilRideMTB April, I was thinking about how to overcome your fear of the Whale's Tale. Ask yourself this, if the Whale's tail was just dirt...would you fear it? I have no experience with these things, but I am pretty sure that the Whale's tale is just an illusion. It's an elevated illusion but regardless, is it really different than a dirt jump? If you can visualize it as a dirt jump, I'm pretty sure you can convince yourself to do it (overcome the fear). The second thing to try is ask yourself, "what is the worst thing that could happen if I don't land this thing correctly? What would that look (and feel) like? If you can accept that, then that may also help you overcome your fear. FYI, I have very few challenges where I ride (middle of nowhere Alaska), but one of the is a set of very uneven stairs made of wood and gravel. There are different flights within those stairs and I have made it down 2 sets which is my limit because the next set is very sketchy. I have weighed the risks and I won't do it. What I am telling you is that I understand fear and consequences and respect whatever you decide (like Kyle). Best of luck...Dan

New mtb rider, just started watching this channel. Never cried in my adult life but 14:32 just made me cry, I am a 38 years old dude and just found something about myself today. Great channel guys. Thank you for doing this.

Nice! I am definitely no professional, but confidence plays a big role. People who take jumps and not feel confident usually end up wrecking. Its not that they don't have the skills to do it, but man, once you get in your head, its hard to get out of it. Just keep it up! You're killing it!

Thanks so much Jon, yeah the confidence part is so huge. I always say Confidence = Preparation x Visualization. Once you can see it going well in your head, then you are pretty much ready, but if the outcome is blank or negative in your head then you need a little more prep.

Thank you so much!! That means a lot, we try to put everything in there, good or bad. I feel like so much of the stuff we see these days is polished and I know i've definitely had lots of moments crying on the trail when I couldn't get something I really wanted. Thanks for the nice comment!

YAYYY!!! I'm so proud of you and I SOOOOOO feel exactly the way you do when I can't get something by the end of the day. April, thank you for letting yourself be vulnerable like this. And Kyle, thank you for being such an empathetic and understanding coach! I love you guys!!! Yet I'm still trying to just get a little jump without my feet coming up, so I'm WAY behind you on those big airs! Keep up the great work you two! 💕

Kyle, you are so supportive and patient to April, it shows how great of a teacher you are. And hopefully other males can learn how to be patient and keep the riding fun. April you are doing so well and conquering all your fears. When you were getting frustrated I am right there with you many, many times. Fantastic content and I’m a sub for life. Thanks for the time and effort you put into this.

The great thing is the whale tail isn’t going anywhere and when ready, we know you will nail it. It’s great to see the patience and no pressure from Kyle and encouragement too. The fact you smashed the rest of the line should make you very happy and proud of yourself.
You’ll get it and great job, both of you

I totally know that feeling, even tho all my MTB challenges are far easier by comparison! This vid was certainly inspirational. I enjoyed that all April’s attempts were left in and much appreciated Kyle’s guidance to helping April succeed. The support hugs were great too! I think I might need a trailside hugger 😂

Kyle you are such a great coach. You're the kind of coach someone can really learn a lot from because of your patients, approach, and of coarse knowledge of riding. I'm nowhere near your level but I'm trying to teach my wife how to ride. Even green trails can be tricky for her as shes never ridden a bike until recently. Having that kind of patients is so hard sometimes, when your comfortable on a bike its difficult to understand how the other person feels. I'm learning a lot from you watching your videos, thank you for putting in the work for us. April you are doing amazing and watching the two of you interact puts a smile on my face. I have to get my wife hooked on your videos I know she'll love them.

I fell lucky to have caught this video even though I am an old lady who would never even dream of doing what April is doing. I cheered out loud for April as she faced her fear to meet each challenge. Also, the kind, patient, and respectful teaching and nature of your relationship to each other is inspiring. Thank you so much for posting this video.
