What you are saying is true. There are extremely low number of career authors in Sri Lanka. Most of the time it's a passion and a side income rather than the primary. This is extremely sad considering the reading habits are reducing drastically in Sri lanka. But , I'm also in IT domain. Still I don't prefer ebooks. I have a Kindle and I have purchased books via Amazon for Kindle. But nothing like having a book in your hand. But I don't think this is a dying art. Books are gonna survive this digital age. Finally on the ebook platforms, as with anything in this age, quality of delivery is the key. Saying it's our own platform is not enough. People will use if the platform is quality. But sadly I still haven't seen any good platform in Sri lanka which is worth. Etisalat previously started one and it was discontinued. Gunasena publishers started ගුරුළුගෝමී app and still its there, but the content is not there. Likewise It's admirable if grantha starts a one. But honestly we need a common platform rather than a publisher house app. One consistent quality app can save the industry. But sadly haven't seen any indication of getting in to such level in Sri lanka.
