Do you like Villeneuve’s science fiction work better than movies like Sicario or Prisoners?

I don't like the GOAT discussions. I think it's too reductive, and things evolve and change and are contextualized.. but Villeneuve is up there in my favorites though..

5:18 I can't remember the source (i think he was doing an interview about Dune 2) but Denis mentioned he used a real spider composited into this shot at the end of the film, they made a scaled down replica of the room and matched all the angles to really capture the image he wanted to get, it's so crazy the lengths he'll go to to get just the right image on the screen

He is a good director but “Mastermind?” Subjective.

Stop the madness and watch more movies. He is no where near the best. His movies are often drab looking and emotionless. Him and Nolan make films the are overrated. They both also want to be Stanley Kubrick but dont have the talent. All I here from them in see it in IMAX because that is how it needs ro be seen. Kubrick literally shot films later in his career that he sized to fit tv's back in the day. He realized if you make a great film it will be watched anywhere on any screen. Also the reliance on Hans Zimmers loud and over bearing scores hurt both of their films...and yes i know Ludwig G did the score to Nolans last 2 films.

have you seen Dune 2 in IMAX? it is genuinely a cinematic experience that no movies have achieved in the last decade.

Completely disagree. Dune 1, Dune 2, Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, Sicario. All are masterpieces imo. Denis has an actual understanding of what makes movies, well.... movies. Every single shot in these is a poster. Pacing keeps you watching and doesn't let you out of the screen. Dialogue used only when nescessary while maximizing the use of "show not tell" which is literally the most important comandment of movie making. And Denis does it best in recent years.
relying on Hans Zimmer for loud and overbearing scores? Not really. Zimmers is I think, simply an amazing composer and his style just uses lots of heavy sounds. Its just your taste here. Is that music or those movies in general the best in IMAX? Yes. But even if you watched it at home on a regular tv, its still a masterclass. Score doesnt magically get better if you go to the cinema. You just feel it more.
Even the statement "reliance on" is so absurd. Of coure he relies on specific ppl. He knows who is good at their job and works well with him.
Sometimes its good to recognize that your entire opinon is based on just your taste (everyone has its own) and not on objective statement so its best not to state it as such

@@keelan3332 Great films are great whatever way to see them. The whole IMAX thing is played out to me. I am 51 years old and have seen many great movies in theaters and none of them are any less great because they weren't shot on IMAX.

@@TheDabombg28 Well yes, Dune 2 is a fantastic film still- I just watched it with friends over a discord stream and while it was of less quality it was still an amazing movie. But when the director pushes for people to see it in IMAX, it isn't a gimmick- its a genuinely unique and breathtaking experience. The way the bass rumbles in your chest and Hans Zimmers score explodes during key moments on such a massive scale is unforgettable.
