    So many times I see people say “I’m going to make over this wood piece” and in reality it’s veneer. Or someone is doing a veneer piece and definitely not treating it properly (and I’m cringing the entire time) and then you can see where they’ve blown threw the top or the drawer fronts. I wish they could have seen a video like this before they got into it. There have been many a times I’ve had to strip the veneer completely off bc of water damage or various other reasons. And after doing that a few times, I typically just stick to classic all wood, pieces. (That’s not to say if I find one in great shape, that doesn’t need a lot of work, that I won’t tackle an easy project for quick turn around here and there!) Much Love to you friend! ☮️💗

    Something like this happened to me a few days ago. I was sure that the table was not veneer and i was trying to sand it to even out some dark spots that I think are water damage? And it created a couple of dents like the one you purposefully created on that shelf. Now idk if i sanded it too much or if it was veneer because it did have the pattern design but it didn't look like particle board on the sides? It just looked like it had a dark color stain. SOOO MY QUESTION IS lol Does over sanding real wood look like when you over sand veneer??? I was left so confused when that happened to me. I called it a loss and painted it instead of staining like i originally planned to do so that it wouodn'r show so much. Thank you so much for all your great videos and tips. You're an inspiration as a person and as an artist. 💛

    I have a buffet with a veneered particle board top. Deeply damaged veneer. Can I sand out the imperfections, and then veneer, or do I have remove ALL the old veneer, down to the particle board BEFORE applying new veneer?

    How would you clean a veneer piece? I took a bed in to have it custom painted and a significant amount of the veneer popped when they cleaned the footboard. They told me they were going to patch it and they ended up saying we only patched part of it. Both the patch part and the parts where the veneer popped that they did nothing looks really terrible. How should they have Cleaned the bed without damaging the veneer?

    Thank you for your videos. Can you put a paint stripper on veneer? Also, can you just scuff sand it and use chalk paint? How can you tell veneer from laminate? Thank you so much

    • @BellaRenovare
      @BellaRenovare  3 года назад

      Hi there!! Yes you can strip veneer, you can scuff sand also, so veneer is actual wood but a very thin layer so it looks and feels like wood, laminate is essential plastic so you won’t be able to sand it down or strip it, you CAN scuff sand the surface for prep but you can also use a gripping primer if you feel more comfortable

    What grit sand paper do you use for veneer?

    • @BellaRenovare
      @BellaRenovare  3 года назад +2

      it depends on the piece, if it is dry and a compromised topcoat/stain, usually only 120, if it has a good finished like the one today I start with an 80-100 and to a 120, but once the preexisting finish is gone, I do not put much pressure down.
      also anytime I can I will use a chemical stripper vs sanding a finish off.

    What grit sandpaper do you use on veneer, especially if it's particle board underneath?

    • @BellaRenovare
      @BellaRenovare  3 года назад

      it really depends on the finish of the veneer. If it is a failing finish I use a 120 grit if it is like the finish I showed I started will 80, its more about not adding too much pressure vs the grit you use.
