I wish I had viewed this last week before I accidently blew through a veneer top while sanding. Your videos are so helpful - Zan
Sorry to hear that :( I have done it before.........
This was so helpful. Cant wait to see how to fix veneer. We have two practice pieces that need to have the veneer fixed. Thanks for the great information.
You are so welcome!
Than you so much for your videos Crys’Dawna! I always learn, I always smile..I always feel the love. Hope you have an amazing day dear one! 💕
Thank you so much Beth!!! You are amazing :)
So many times I see people say “I’m going to make over this wood piece” and in reality it’s veneer. Or someone is doing a veneer piece and definitely not treating it properly (and I’m cringing the entire time) and then you can see where they’ve blown threw the top or the drawer fronts. I wish they could have seen a video like this before they got into it. There have been many a times I’ve had to strip the veneer completely off bc of water damage or various other reasons. And after doing that a few times, I typically just stick to classic all wood, pieces. (That’s not to say if I find one in great shape, that doesn’t need a lot of work, that I won’t tackle an easy project for quick turn around here and there!) Much Love to you friend! ☮️💗
Hey but I guess we can always paint on top lol....I agree I forget sometimes that this is so valuable for people to know!!! Thank you so much my sweet friend :)

I’m so excited that I actually got to see your video 20 minutes ago. I’ve been up trying to get my house warm. We have a freeze going right now. It’s 26° right now. But I really wish I would have picked up my phone earlier and I could’ve seen you live. My arm is doing pretty good.

Sanding Veneer on the weekend. This was right on target for me😅
yay...just don't cross that line lol
very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video. Our den end tables have veneer tops and will need to be redone at some point. Now I know what to not do.
You are so welcome!
Something like this happened to me a few days ago. I was sure that the table was not veneer and i was trying to sand it to even out some dark spots that I think are water damage? And it created a couple of dents like the one you purposefully created on that shelf. Now idk if i sanded it too much or if it was veneer because it did have the pattern design but it didn't look like particle board on the sides? It just looked like it had a dark color stain. SOOO MY QUESTION IS lol Does over sanding real wood look like when you over sand veneer??? I was left so confused when that happened to me. I called it a loss and painted it instead of staining like i originally planned to do so that it wouodn'r show so much. Thank you so much for all your great videos and tips. You're an inspiration as a person and as an artist. 💛

❤️❤️❤️❤️
So is there anyway that you can fix that patch? I have a piece where it has a little spot in the center, so can you use something like liquid wood or something?
Always learn so much from you! thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You are so welcome :)
I have a buffet with a veneered particle board top. Deeply damaged veneer. Can I sand out the imperfections, and then veneer, or do I have remove ALL the old veneer, down to the particle board BEFORE applying new veneer?
How would you clean a veneer piece? I took a bed in to have it custom painted and a significant amount of the veneer popped when they cleaned the footboard. They told me they were going to patch it and they ended up saying we only patched part of it. Both the patch part and the parts where the veneer popped that they did nothing looks really terrible. How should they have Cleaned the bed without damaging the veneer?
😲 Wow...It's a 5 minutes Tuesday.. 😜🤣 Very interesting 😉❤️
Hhahahah I know!!! I wanted it to be straight forward and to the point lol 😂
@@BellaRenovare It's sales ? 50% off 🤣🤣🤣
It's perfect 👌😉❤️
@@revu_et_corrige it’s so you will miss me and come back for my furniture video lol 😂
@@BellaRenovare This is already the case 🤣 it's very long a week 😅😂 one video a day is better 🤣
💜💜💜
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've crossed that line. 😔
me too friend me too!!
Thank you for your videos. Can you put a paint stripper on veneer? Also, can you just scuff sand it and use chalk paint? How can you tell veneer from laminate? Thank you so much
Hi there!! Yes you can strip veneer, you can scuff sand also, so veneer is actual wood but a very thin layer so it looks and feels like wood, laminate is essential plastic so you won’t be able to sand it down or strip it, you CAN scuff sand the surface for prep but you can also use a gripping primer if you feel more comfortable
Thank you 👍 and right to the point. I took the veneer off a small wood sewing table, it opens to accommodate sewing project. Still no idea what to do with it!
You are so welcome!!! Was there wood under your veneer?
@@BellaRenovare yes, nothing special I don't think, but there was a date 14/9/49. I love the table it's low hight, round and the middle opens, it's cute ❤️
What grit sand paper do you use for veneer?
it depends on the piece, if it is dry and a compromised topcoat/stain, usually only 120, if it has a good finished like the one today I start with an 80-100 and to a 120, but once the preexisting finish is gone, I do not put much pressure down.
also anytime I can I will use a chemical stripper vs sanding a finish off.
Now how do you fix the oversanded veneer? Lol 🤦🏻♀️
Wish I saw this video a week ago!!
What grit sandpaper do you use on veneer, especially if it's particle board underneath?
it really depends on the finish of the veneer. If it is a failing finish I use a 120 grit if it is like the finish I showed I started will 80, its more about not adding too much pressure vs the grit you use.
Thank you! I have an old chest of drawers I want to refinish that has veneer like in your video. I appreciate your tips/instructions!
whoa whoa whoa.... I blinked and the video was over 🤣 I'd rather have more than 10 minutes than less 😎
Hahahahahaha I know but I was like I don’t know how much more I can show lol 😂
I actually like that it was short and succinct, I am new to chalk paint crafting and have recently watched some videos that have literally sent me to sleep because they rattled on. Thanks Crys’Dawna for the very helpful videos
Thank you for the demo. Like the others, I wish I had know years ago. I took furniture stripper to remove "antiquing" from a piece. I took the paint and veneer right off.😔
o no!!!! sometimes furniture will be the death of us!!
@@BellaRenovare Yes, but I lived.....the table died😀
@@leahroby241 Lol!
But how do I fix it?! 😆 I bought a cheap project piece and someone else seemed to have done this in a couple of spots. Im debating painting over it, but is there a good option to fix it so I can stain it?
Honestly the o my way to fix it is to put new veneer, use gel stain that almost looks solid or paint 😬😬
@@BellaRenovare gonna need a new veneer tutorial before I go that route! 😄 paint it is for this one!
I know this, thank goodness. Must be so frustrating if you don't know and blow through your woodfineer.
yes.....and I think we have all been there :(
Por favor, pon siempre subtitulos en español 🙏
done :)
If you sand through the veneer to the particle board, I assume the only solution is to paint it?
Well yes and no, you could replace it but who really wants to do that?!?!?! lol
I do not enjoy working with veneer. I try to only find solid wood. ❤🇨🇦
yeah it can be a real pain!!
OK l see my closet is that Word gonna be tuff spetialy One small line fell off and l need hyde it 🤔 just dont know what to use to hyde it to look smooth before paiting it
Watch her next project, then you know ;>p
You can maybe try to glue it back?
@@BellaRenovare l tryed it fell off its so wierd l used wood glue fell off, and hot glue fell of too its like "dream on u never put me in place" 🤷♀️
Hey man, where's my other 5 minutes? I demand a refund!
Oh wait...
hahahahhaha
