ModernDayTech I loaded it onto a pi and got it running. I misunderstood things when I bought it and thought I could use it as a HomeKit hub instead of an Apple TV, iPad, or HomePod. And I have mostly everything integrated into SmartThings and wasn’t sure how well that would translate in straight from there or if it be more feature-filled to integrate from the other services
You’re welcome, thank you watching and commenting. If you think you have skills and time, it might be a fun project. Which way are you thinking of going?
I've spent years making these hoobs. You better love them Neil! lol. Vocolinc are affordable & decent quality but requires a normal plug. There's also the iHarper (currently out of stock) that only requires a powered USB plug so that might be better for the van. Theres a few more i c in the UK but they are more expensive.
Great video man! Hoobs looks awesome and looks simple to set up. If you have any teckin smart plugs or wyze cameras, I wonder if you can get those into HomeKit? That would be huge for me.
Wyze camera does. I have a friend who set up the cameras with RTSP and hoobs and she was able to get them into HK. Only downside is that the RTSP firmware for Wyze doesn’t get updates that often and I’m not sure if you can use the Wyze sense bridge with it that version. (I can get you in touch if you want get more info). There is a separate plugin though for Wyze’s other products (maybe not the lock??) but I hear it’s a little slow. I searched Teckin and it seems there is one that says Tuya/Teckin smart socket and they have Teckin power strip option in the code but I don’t the if that will work for Teckin power strip too. Might be worth to check out more before you invest more into a native HK power strip.
I haven't pulled the trigger on hoobs, but I wonder how long I can resist still. Having all my big Samsung appliances connected into HomeKit would be great though. I will definitely be following this as well. Between you and the channel Shane Whatley, I will get a lot of information here.
That sounds pretty awesome. HOOBS truly opens up so many doors! Plus it pretty easy for a lot of the plugins. I don't see any specific plugin for the appliances but I don't see why you couldn't do it through smartthings plugin. Do you have a smartthings hub?
@@ModernDayTech I didn't buy the smartthings hub because I just want to keep it in HomeKit. And the Smarthings Hub was not required for me to get the notifications on the iPhone and the watch, so no worries... But with Hoobs, might need to get that as well :)
I feel ya. That makes sense. Another possibly way is through IFTTT, even though I'm not a big fan of IFTTT but it might work well for this case. I'm not sure if IFTTT supports all Samsung appliances though. Only a few are listed. Did you see or have another idea?
Great video with great info. I’m just starting to build out my HomeKit; however, our house (new construction) comes with a ring doorbell, two Honeywell thermostats and a brilliant control pad. Does the brilliant work similar to hoobs, or should I add in a hoobs as well?
Oh wow. Where do I start...Congrats on the new house. No the Brillant is a wall controller and hoobs is bridge. *The HK support that brilliant has is limited to the hardwire switch(es). The Brillant screen controller does not control your HK home.* You can have things both in brilliant and in HK if they are compatible with both systems. Hoobs on the other hand is a bridge for non-native HK products and brings in them into HK. For example, the ring door bell is not native to HK. It can work with brilliant cause they have a relationship but to get the ring doorbell into HK, you'll need Hoobs. Hoobs is awesome and you'll probably need one day, but unless you have other products or are planning to buy other non-native products, I wouldn't say you would need it. Heres a playlist of some of the stuff I brought over to HK and this weeks video will also be another native HK product. ruclips.net/p/PLFsF_30Yizn-gwuWDX4j4EW_I-R-crMFt I hope that helps. Feel free to hit me up in my discord and I'll try to help you more.
Great video thank you for the amazing content keep it up please could you help assist me in helping pick which sort of bridge I need to my home I’m currently going to be running to let you for the lighting I have chosen nest for my smoke alarm my doorbell and my heating I have seen a starling bridge but I’m tied up between hoobs and starling what is the plug-in or the set up process for the device within the hoobs you’ve just displayed any information or advice would be greatly appreciated thank you so much
I don't have first hand knowledge of the nest plugin(s) on Homebridge (Hoobs) but I hear it's not as good. I'm hearing most things work fairly well once it set up in Hoobs but it takes a lot more effort to setup and more to maintain compared to Starling Hub. Google authentication process changes from time to time and Starling emails you to remind you re-login with your Google account when that happens but with the Hoobs plugin apparently you have to jump though some additional hoops every time. If you don't have any other need for Hoobs besides Nest products go for Starling 100%. If you have others, it'll be a harder choice.
Check out my instagram. I have some photos there. instagram.com/p/CF7bqjfJ7pX/ Maybe I'll do a video for my patreon memebers one day. patreon.com/moderndaytech
No you don’t need a computer. You can access the hoobs UI from your iphone/iPad on the same network. The iPad doesn’t need to stay on the network as the hoobs box stays 24/7 on your network.
Can you trust Hoobs, can you trust Apple, can you trust Google, can your trust your ISP, can you trust your own network, can you trust a stranger on the internet, can you trust me? Where does it stop and who really knows? Best not to trust anything and minimize the risk yourself. Have good password management and smart home network segregation!
I just think it's a little odd that they're reselling a $30 device (Raspberry Pi 3B), with all the ports except power and ethernet blocked off, and preloaded with a modified version of open source software, all for $220. I understand they need money to keep the project alive but come on
Yes, there is non certified plugin for Nest cameras in Hoobs but the Starling hub is still 100 times easier (plug and play) and it exposes everything including the facial recognition features into HK. ruclips.net/video/2uFGoJCXTQ8/видео.html

Great video Eric! Some of my favorite ways to use hoobs is for dummy switches, my roomba, and ifttt device integration. So many possibilities!
Yes it is. It opens up so many doors that were shut before and opens up some many new ones that can lead to that ultimate smart home.
I’ll definitely be following this series. I picked that up a while back (SD card), but never got around to integrating anything
It’s awesome, especially if you want to use HomeKit as your primary controller/automation platform. What did you try to install onto?

Thank you for the video. I was just looking at these and was split if I should buy my own Raspberry Pi and install it or just get this Hoobs in a box.
You’re welcome, thank you watching and commenting. If you think you have skills and time, it might be a fun project. Which way are you thinking of going?
I need to take a look at that Eric. I’m starting more and more to get involved with HomeKit and I’m really enjoying it. Thanks for sharing man!!
You should! We're going to convince you to go all in. lol
this is super cool . and i love your hoobs . I'm looking for led lights for the van that can be set up to home kit , I'm just getting in to this stuff

ModernDayTech great, thanks for the info! I do use the sensor bridge so that may not work for me :/
Hoobs looks absolutely top-notch. We'll see about the longevity. There's just too much cheap plastic nowadays.
I haven't pulled the trigger on hoobs, but I wonder how long I can resist still.

Thanks

How connect the smart devices to the HOOBS bridge? which protocol?
The box itself connects to wifi or plugs into your network.
Hey there, where can I (and is this supported) get this device in Australia?
Yeah, on their website they mention shipping to Oceania. If you decide to get one, I hope you would use my affiliate link - geni.us/Hoobs
Well done. I would love to know how you made that network rack.

Do you need to have a computer to run Hoobs and does it need to be up 24/7? Or can you run it on a iPad that travels
No you don’t need a computer. You can access the hoobs UI from your iphone/iPad on the same network. The iPad doesn’t need to stay on the network as the hoobs box stays 24/7 on your network.
@@ModernDayTech thanks so much for clarification on that. I need to set up Hoobs but don’t want to leave phone or iPad home. Thank you for your videos
How about a hoobs giveaway?
I have some more Hoobs videos schedule for 2021 so stay tuned. I might through in a giveaway if we get enough interest.
is it safe? can hoobs be hacked
