Excellent review Eddie! May I pretty please add that if one has HOOBS first, It is a simple task to convert to Homebridge! Just save the HOOBS configurations to a networked computer, flash Homebridge to a SD Card, plug it into the existing HOOBS box, restart to Homebridge and restore the configuration to your new Homebridge powered box from the networked computer. That’s what I did some time ago and it worked great! I’ve never looked back!
Now that's something new to people who want to go with HOOBS or HomeBridge, but your video make it clear for people like us . Thanks and superb work as always .
Very useful. I just discovered this channel. I bought a couple of Nest smoke alarms and wanted to find a way to connect them to HomeKit without dedicated bridge. Homebridge seems like the way to go. Thanks for the information and the comparison.
Thanks for the video. It absolutely helped me decide. I'll be going with Apple supported devices. The idea that in 2023 you have to do all that dickin around blows my mind. I'll happily pay for it to work out of the box, work the first time, and work all the time.
Totally agree with you. However, product availablity is always limited for certain regions of the world. then these solutions come in Handy to get Non supported devices into Apple Homekit. Cheers
Hey Thank you for the explanation One question do I need a homepod or something like that I actually have Alexa everywhere running Automations Now I also want to have all of that in Apple Home Do you recommend to use home assistant better? thank you 🙏
Total newbie, but do you have video or source on how to setup ability to access hoobs remotely when away from home? I hear the hoobs pro uses a cloud feature but at hefty $399 price. I have hoobs on rasp pi 4 but concerned about opening up ports and security
Theres no real need to access HOOBS externally. Use apple home to access the exposed devices and when theres a real need to update plugins - do it when you are connected to your LAN.
Hi, sorry for the basic question. I wonder if you could make a scene or automation where you mix devices from different brands like if “Mi CCTV detected a motion then the the phillips smart light bulb will turn red”. Is that possible to do with HOOBS..??
I choose the Homebridge, but I can't get my Nest Thermostat account set with the Plug-in. The Plug-in does not ask for password nor user, instead ask for Token. Any idea where I can get the right information for my Nest Thermostat set with Homebridge?
Hello Willie - please try this plugin. However - the best way for Nest devices is to use the starling hub. Configured one for a customer and it works flawless as if its a Apple certified device. 😇
Hey Luke - if you are using DSM 6 - use this video ruclips.net/video/CTe-gSrzLFE/видео.html and DSM 7 - use this link github.com/homebridge/homebridge/wiki/Install-Homebridge-on-Synology-DSM
I have a question about security as hoobs just offers a password and user name and homebridge offers double verification is there a difference in security?
hey Richard ... from my point of view - as long as you dont enable any port forwarding to yoru HOOBS box - then the username & password is good enough. Homebridge has added this extra layer of security incase someone on your network wants to access the Dashboard which I think is brilliant .... Keeps the local users away from accessing the dashboard.

Good point! Cheers
Is this really as easy as it sounds? I wish there was an Eddie-guide for this... :D
That only worked on hoobs 3, hoobs 4 changed things around

Glad it was helpful Sagar. Cheers

Glad I could help! Cheers
Thank you, Eddie! This is exactly what I wanted to know. I’ll go with Homebridge since I can run it in a Docker container and get community support.
Your Welcome ! Cheers

This video helped me a lot! I think I’m going to try Homebridge and if it’s too complicated I’ll go with Hoobs. :)
Awesome !
Awesome video Eddie. Working homebridge now.
Your welcome ... Cheers

I love this, but I'm confused, because I have Samsung Smartthing, will that not do the same thing as Homebridge?
Hey Kenneth if you are looking to link your Smartthings Hub and its device to HomeKit - then you will need Homebridge.
Thanks Eddie, as always a great video. Thanks for all the great information.
My pleasure! Cheers

You will need to use the Apple Home App to run automations with multiple brands. HOOBS acts only as a bridge to exposes plugin devices

HI mate, do you have a tutorial for installing Homebridge onto a synology DS220+?
Hey Luke - if you are using DSM 6 - use this video ruclips.net/video/CTe-gSrzLFE/видео.html and DSM 7 - use this link github.com/homebridge/homebridge/wiki/Install-Homebridge-on-Synology-DSM
Love your video I would swap over but got so much loaded up on it now so would be a project, will swap over if I ever get any problems with it
You can do it! Cheers :)

Is there any reason you cannot run both simultaneously on a hoobs box?
Both do the same job - expose your devices to HomeKit. So it doesnt make sense to run both.
👏👏👏
Valeu
Hard to understand
Thanks for the compliment ... if you can post your question - will be glad to assist. Cheers
