Update: I’ve been using the hand cream for over a week now and love it! It’s very firm, but I just scrape out a little bit and it melts onto my hands in a matter of seconds. It isn't too greasy and seems to be doing a great job at moisturizing!
Kate, you never cease to amuse! 😂 The faces you make with those dubious claims cracked me up! Also, the ending blooper. 🤣 Whoopsie! Happens to the best of us. Haha
There are countless channels on RUclips, a few l subscribe to and then there are a scant few in that second category that l binge watch repeatedly. Your channel falls into that last special group. I can't wait to try this recipe on my own scary alligator 🐊 skin hands and l hope you and Aggie are keeping each other warm with lots of loving snuggles.
soap does strip the skin of its natural oils, so i can see where a mechanical cleaner would save some dryness, but it would depend how often you washed your hands
I tried the "hand cream" poured into lip balm tubes and it works really well for hot weather and keeping in pockets! For reference, it's currently 80 degrees and keeping it in a pants pocket didn't noticeably change the texture. When used from a tube, it forms a very thin layer, but it lasts better than any other lip balm I've used. Not very shiny, plays well with lipstick. Dunno if it'll be too stiff in cold weather, I guess I'll find out
I usually wear cotton gloves over moisturizer at night when my hands are dry, especially during winter. I hadn't thought of wearing them under gloves during the day though, I may give it a try :) I've also never paid extra attention to drying my nailbeds after washing my hands, I wonder if that actually prevents hangnails, as I do sometimes get those. Dry/chapped lips are what I have to contend with mostly -_- petroleum jelly is my best friend, but that hand cream looks so nice. Love your hat!
Hats, long sleeves, parasols. There aren’t really any topical products that act as good sunscreen, so covering up with breathable fabrics or creating shade was the way to keep from getting tanned before the invention of sunscreen.
As the other commentor said, physical protection from the sun (i.e. clothing or cloth) was the most popular method. But, although it wasn't specifically meant as sunscreen, but many face powders at the time contained zinc oxide which happens to function as a natural mineral sunscreen 😎
Hey kate thank you so much for this vedio It's amazing and I love it. I have a question about the hand cream why we can't use it as a body or face cream?
I wouldn't recommend it as a face cream as it would likely clog pores. You could theoretically use it on the body, but it is really thick and would be difficult to apply to large areas. It's has a similar texture to lip balm (which incidentally it also works really well as).

These historical advice articles are always fun, and "Kate's notes" make them even better! Good research is such a treat. 😊

Kate could you give us the way the women protected their skin from the sun, what they used as sunscreen?
