Julie Adenuga is Skepta & JME's sister. She's a radio DJ and has a show on RUclips called Top 5 which you should defo checkout in your spare time (the Kano & Chipmunk episodes are my personal favourites).... she can sing too but doesn't do it professionally.

Tottenham is one of the places with the most talent. It also home to a massive football club, at the end you saw White Hart Lane which is their stadium, the main landmark. The club also does work in the community as well.
As an aside it showed an artist in there that you've mentioned once before. Tinchy Stryder. He's from Ruff Sqwad in Bow, where Dizzee and Wiley were from. While Dizzee was in Roll Deep crew they, or him were also affiliated with Ruff Sqwad. They are one of the most influential grime collectives. Tinchy was actually one of the rappers that managed to go commercial get his money and disappear. He was a legend in the game. Stormzy's Shut Up was an old Ruff Sqwad instrumental and one of my favourite grime tracks is called Anna. It's a classic.

I really recommend watching a documentary on pirate radios - it really helped the rise of "urban" music when no major radio station would give it the time of day. Think of teenagers setting up illegal radio stations in run down flats just to get their music out across London and the feats they went just to do it. A lot of stations are now major radio stations in the UK as well, such as Rinse FM, Heat FM, Flex FM. Geenus, the founder of Rinse, got his name because he would climb elevator shafts and hide it in the top of them so that the police couldnt find and take it down.

Channel u was a music channel where it played specifically grime garage and urban music. All these up and coming artists could pay a small fee to put there music and music videos on there and people could then text and request a song. It was like MTV for urban British music. Was a lot of dancehall and stuff on there as well. Was basically a melting pot of all this new music that was percolating

That is true what you say about the Caribbean influence being much newer than in the US, but don’t be fooled. Although yes the majority of black people came from the lates 1940s onwards there were historical black communities in the UK prior. Believe it or not but Liverpool’s black community dates back to the 1730s with some people able to go back 10 generations, plus London being around 3% black in the late 1700s.

Newham is a whole borough. Tottenham is just an area within a borough (Haringey). Pound for pound Tottenham is top 2/3 in terms of quality and quantity or artists. Chip, Skepta, Frisco, JME, Young Spray, Abracadabra, Headie One, RV, Double S, Wretch 32, Avelino.... I could keep going, I haven't even mentioned the younger Drill kids like Y.OFB and NPK etc.
The only other neighbourhoods that could compare are Brixton and maybe Peckham (Peckham has the quality but not the same quantity as Brixton and Tottenham). East is strong as well, but there's no one area that could compare - only boroughs. Hackney and Newham are near top

Channel U was the one channel on tv that played UK underground music videos, this sort of started in 2003. After when so solid crew got shut down and banned. Grime was then birthed. WILEY played a massive part in grime and built a scene, Wiley had built and helped skepta/ Kano/ dizzee/ Kano. In America kanos name needs to spread and ghetts. The artist you have now have had no struggle. Nowadays anything goes, you say a shit lyric, it goes. Back in the day that wasn’t the case and you see fuck radio, or that room where crazy Titch and Dizzee got into a fight, so I’m a room you had to be special.

These two clashes on pirate radio are probably two of the most memorable moments from the early days of Grime. Part of the reason is because it was filmed so they’ve transcended different generations of fans...
