I bought a 24' Tacoma on August 26, 2024. Took it back to the dealership on August 27th. For paint flaws! They made me wait a week so their Toyota rep could look at the vehicle. During that time, the painted plastic fender rear fender flares got chipped up excessively. Due to the way the vehicle was designed. Along with splash guards that didn't cover the tires completely, and all-season Michellin SST with a tight tread pattern. Met with the rep! That was a waste of time. Nothing was addressed! So, I took it to three reputable paint shops. Every speck of dirt and flaw in the paint was mapped. The paint itself was thickness tested along with the clearcoating. The rear fender flares were inspected as well. All three places said the vehicle needs repainted and clearcoated. The fender flares need primed before painted. Armed with these findings, I returned to the dealership. The dealership decided to clay-bar and buff it out with a correction polish professionally. A week later, when I picked up the truck. It was worse than before! The finish was swirled, and the clearcoat was burned off. The rear fender flares looked like a kid touched them up. The tonneau cover, which I purchased with the truck. Lifted the bed caps off the bed. Because it is mounted to the composite bed's tiedown system. There's no actual lip on these beds to clamp a tonneau covers or bed cap to. Some kind of half-inch white foam tape was used to mount the bedcaps on the bed. Instead of 3M automotive tape! I was so pissed I left in the loaner and told them to fix it. My ownership of the 2024 Tacoma has been a flippin nightmare. After two months of bitching they brought in an actual Toyota Rep. To date, the bed cap issue isn't fixed. The paint is messed up so bad it isn't even funny. They finally listen to me about the splash guards and tires that are chipping up the rear fender flares. New mud flaps were installed along with new tires. They hit another obstacle, and they damaged the rims mounting the new tires. They were replaced on November 7th. Along with new painted rear fender flares. At least that finally fixed the chipping issue. However, the paint issues remain! At a thousand miles, I decided to do an oil change. When I took that cheap ass gravel guard off. Two chunks of plastic hit the floor! One slides up to protect the fan and radiator. The other is like a plug? I finished the oil change. Got that crap pushed back into place, and reinstalled the cheap gravel guard. Took it back to the dealership. The service advisor said he hates to see me coming. I told him, "How do you think I feel?" I called 1-800-LEMONLAW! I bought a new truck on Black Friday. Toyota tried to negotiate a settlement on December 17th. I want all my money back. The vehicle is paid off! So, we're going to court in mid-January. Because I don't want another Tacoma. Just doesn't trust the 4th generation model......

All I can say is Toyota continues to just baffle me, no access doors, what’s the point? What engineer and what focus group thought this was a good idea. The Gen 4’s leave a lot to be desired, I’ll drive my Gen 3 forever if this is the way Toyota is going!
Modern version of my first truck - 1994 Toyota DX extra cab. Loved that machine and served me well. Expect this might work for my son when he decides to step into a new truck.
I think in a few years ..after toyota sorts out it's problems this will be the best option .. convert rear with a wreaked Trail hunter rear ... suspenion ...
My theory... It is obvious that Toyota intended the "Xtra Cab" to have rear hinged doors like the previous generation "Access Cab". What got in the way at the last minute was the NHTSA and their modern crash safety standards which disallowed the rear doors. It is so apparent as access to the rear cargo area in the 2024 Xtra Cab is abysmal! So much good room and many storage areas that are hard to reach. Picture having some heavy tools or a tool box back there and having to reach way out and lift them over the front seat. Ridiculous! This is one of the reasons why I purposely bought new a 2023 SR 4x4 Access Cab, 4 cylinder, knowing all about the coming 2024. The only thing I would like in my 2023 that the 2024 has is more power. But knowing my under stressed naturally aspirated 4 cylinder is a proven 500,000+ mile engine makes me smile more than 90 more horsepower would.
I like choices. Interesting concept. Terrible execution (Toyota couldn't figure out how to add a rear door and still pass crash tests?!?). That truck should be sub $30,000.
Bought a 2021 TRD off road four-door short bed four-wheel drive with the rear window power driver seat dual air controls in front nice Wheels nice seats for 38,000 out the door back in 2021 not that long ago and this is what you get for $38,000 3 years later? Absolutely ridiculous. Still love you though Jeff don't blame you
Hey Jeff, the power specs you stated are actually not correct. This being an SR base, has the de-tuned fleet version of the 2.4T makes significantly less power. Thanks for the video!
These Toyota ads are getting very tiresome. A 37k+ two seat mini truck that still gets only 24 MPG even with a hybrid powertrain, is laughable. All the "extra storage" areas are because its to small to be usefull for anything else. But having no small back doors to access the area behind the driver makes what you put back there have to be a lot of small junk. As to "tool storage" back there, hope you mean just throwing your tools in those places , becayse they arent made to put any boxes in them. Sorry, but its a lot of money, for a two seater, with odd storage and a powertrain that is unproven, with mediocre mileage.
Jeff, Game changer is an understatement. We used to see 5:18 a fold-flat front passenger seat in hatchbacks, wagons and SUVs but now we can only find it in a 2 door pickup? 🤔I hope the XTra Cab Tacoma inspires Toyota to bring back a basic XTra Cab Tundra with an 8 foot bed. 🤩🤩
MSRP is insane but be aware they are discounting quite heavily off MSRP right now. It will depend on the trim and total price but still anything off is good. My dealership is also taking off $2,500 off 2025’s right now.
This would be extremely interesting if it had a 4.0 V6 and a 6 speed manual. Since that probably won't happen I'll keep my 2010 Tacoma TRD Offroad 4.0 V6, 6 speed manual till the end of time.
That entire rear storage area seems like such a convoluted and scatterbrained layout. You could have so much more space if it were just simple bins with modular inserts to divide it up. Instead they opted for multiple inefficient panels and cubbies with weird shapes and slopes. Whoever designed that at Toyota must have been drunk and whoever approved it was blind.
Bought a brand new trd off-road 4wd dual cab in 2019 for $37500 with everything but a sunroof, leather seats and dual zone climate control. I will never buy a new truck ever again!
The missing door xtracab is a massive design fail in that truck. I know, I have an Access cab, and each time I open the rear door, my old back rewards me because I don’t have to be a contortionist to get back there. If I owned this truck, the space behind the seat would be a black hole that would eat stuff.
