I'm 62 and just finishing my first year of my fine art degree by online learning as I live in rural Australia. The thing I love about school is it forces me to do many things I would have never tried and so much artist research I would have never known on my own. The structure helps me to not get distracted. I know if I spent the time doing what I like I would be much better at that but my frame of reference would be so much smaller. I learn so much from my fellow students and tutors. That said, RUclips and Patreon gives me so much as well.
thank you for sharing your experiences !! it’s really eye opening and helped me think more critically about what i would want to do. i want to go into the art field and will soon have to pick out colleges, so it’s nice to think about what is the better path for me
.... Sheesh 1 day ago. I live next to Ringling and have been told my whole life I should go there but now Sarasota cost of living is pushing me out and not to mention RCAD is nearly as much as Harvard tuition. Moving to Tallahassee and was considering just going to FSU for art, but I want to be in game design. I've got $ available for me to use at public universities though, so I would be saving a lot of money. Just don't know if it's worth going to a state university for, but its a cheaper option I'd live very close to.
The one thing I will say is never to judge the value of education you'll get based on the size of the school or anything like that. It could be a small, medium, or large university and it doesn't matter whether it's state, private, or public. I lucked out in that the college of DAAP is at the University of Cincinnati and it is public so, the tuition was and is significantly lower than say RISD or Art Center. It's also a good thing to research the staff at schools because you want to make sure the teachers are currently in the industry or had been for a significant amount of time. This way, you'll get current real-world knowledge and trends.
as self taught, one thing I still struggle is to find someone who can give me a direction every 3/4 months. I wonder how much a professional could ask for such a service
if I got your question correctly, generic tips wouldn't do. I know I have a lot to improve in many areas and I think I kind of recognize them, but what would bring me faster to getting contracts signed? there might be many solutions to this, included recognizing a certain degree of insecurity :) but seriously I acknowledge that I improved the most when I was attending a course with a live instructor giving a critique to my current work. I hope that clarified a bit
its very different in India.. no Ferrari no hondas there is a big crack in digital and traditional art form or divide .. we dont have to stay separated from family but they have alot saying in life ..like no waking up till midnight drinking beer having fun with friends .. not every time you want ..constant pressure from family nd society .. universities r very orthodox ..in working style so its difficult but art materials r cheap unless going for international brands ..anyway i follow you on art station ..

I personally loved the campus life and I think personality has a lot to do with it. Some people learn way better on their own and that's okay, too.

Mentorships run at all kinds of prices but if it's direction you're looking for, is it just some tips on how to move forward?
