Ultimately the design is a glorified eheim classic (which is what the Ada filter was/is) and many of us have been running those for decades and not really cared about the lack of trays or lack of pre filter and lack of heater and so on.
Your ceramic media is in a bag, it’s like a tray but soft and works exactly the same at holding the media in place. Changing floss is easy and quick after you’ve done it a few times. Lack of a heater is one less thing to break and gives options. On the subject of breaking I’ve broken an eheim by dropping it so being stainless might be nice. Ultimately you learn to live with what you have and find the hacks and work arounds.
These days all I really care about is the wattage compared to the lph and how quiet a filter is. The quieter the better. And the less power burned the better.
Fine review, seems a fine product, same draw backs as tried and true tech like the eheim classics, just with a modern dc pump.

I have two superjet filters (one ADA, one Chihiros) and although I love the design and all that comes with the simplicity of the tube shape, I'll replace them. They get stuck with air bubbles all the time. I think it's due to the shape of the filter, and I wonder if it's the same with this fzone (and the eheim classic maybe?).

    • @microcox

Also, since you like quiet filters: what's the most silent filter for you? My wife is VERY sensitive to buzzing noise.

    • @ga-la4233

@@microcox hmm, I’ve never had air bubble issues since I swapped to a better quality of co2 mister. They of course can burp from time to time but not so much when the filter is kept clean and polishing mat is minimal.
Most silent filter by a long long long way is the eheim 2224/2 - but the limitation is the turnover max is only 700lph which means it’s only useful for up to about 65l max aquariums.
I tried one of the oase and returned it, very noisy and felt really cheap. Even ones in the shop was loud. I’d be interested to see if some has ever done a decibel test on filters… 🤔

I'd have to be mad to swap my simple oase with prefilter for this.. My bi-weekly filter maintenance takes 3 min... Can't imagine opening canister twice a week, draining it, priming it after... Oase also has a heater, so that's another simplification. Too many products overly complicated with remotes and pointlesd features noone needs. Even the original ADA was just a metal bucket with a pump, proven it works. Keep it simple and convenient.

I spoke to Fzone about the dual inlet/single inlet a long time before this, single inlet for smaller tanks running lower lph, dual inlet for bigger tanks running high lph.
The more LPH your using the faster the canister needs to refill, therefore the dual inlet or larger diameter pipe is required, but dual inlet works better on bigger tanks :) Also staying with the "Normal" sized piping the accessories are widely available.

It’s a dc pump so it has a dc controller to adjust the flow rate which lowers the rpm of the motor itself. It’s better then using a ac pump with a control valve because it doesn’t add stain onto the pump because of the back pressure.

Watching this I remember the older models of Eheim cansiter filter(plastic ones). I still have one, it works really well. My advice is don't put too much of those sponges, I think one for mechanical filtration with big holes at the beginning and a fine filter mesh at the end is enough. Sponges can push the pump to work too hard.

  • @jc13781

i have thought of a dream filter for a long time. i would absolutely go with a stainless design. the DC electric pump is awesome, and that brand of pump is expensive, adding a lot to the overall cost of this filter im sure. things i would change:
    1. in the automotive industry, there are AN fittings for connecting various hoses to things like fuel tanks to the motor. I would 10000% use AN fittings over the crappy hoses and connectors used in 100% of fish tank products.
    2. I would add AN fitting connectors to add additional features to the filter, like a co2 injection line into the filter so you can keep a clean setup without having to run an in-line co2 injection setup.
    3. I would definitely incorporate a heater into the underside of the lid, and make it so that it is powered by one cable, and controlled with the remote. The oase filter has 2 plugs, one for the filter and one for the heater, which i think is ridiculous and such a cheap way of doing it to avoid having a controller to regulate the power going to both devices.
    4. I would add a button to the remote for feed mode, so you can keep your mode pre-sets, and after the timer for feeding goes off, it would automatically revert back to your selected mode. It seems dumb to change the mode to feeding mode. This should be so much simpler.
    5. Obviously i would use clear tubing and ask the pump manufacturer to use black or clear plastic instead of blue. But i would use the newer softer and more flexible silicon tubing. I don't know why filter companies keep using the same old plastic tubing that is so rigid and difficult to flex around obstacles. I know it is more expensive but makes setting up the filter so easy, and you don't worry about a kink developing in the line a week or two after setup because you tried to flex the tube too far.
These ideas would probably add another $50-75 to the cost of the filter, but if someone is already spending 375, im sure another 75 isn't going to hurt, and the added features would make a truly unbeatable filter.
I dont much care about the pre-filter on the oase, i think popping the lid off the stainless filter so you can rinse off the media would not take more than about 5-7 minutes versus 3 or 4 with the pre-filter. The pre-filter adds areas for air to enter the system and oase is terrible with the noise from air leaks, and i had to return mine because i couldn't stand the "sqoooosh" sound every 5 seconds. it never stopped and i had to return it before my return window closed.

They should have reversed that, also, I feel they should have at least put one or two sponges in there to get people started. Go with the Fluval fx 6. It's way better than Oase. I have a 75 gallon tank and had 2 oase 850 and they both would suck in air and spit it out constantly. One of them finally stopped doing this but the other kept doing it, so I bought the fluval. Here is the only down side to the fluval, it comes with 1" piping so they don't actually fit any lily pipes. But the flow (which is also adjustable) is way more than the Oase 850. I got mine to work with lily pipes using some converters but it takes a bit of work and materials (but not that expensive).

Nice review, honest critique of the lack of instructions, plastic on the pump, and no filter material. Your OASE 850 Thermo has an internal heater. What are you using for heating now? I've been considering this Fzone or an OASE thermo to replace my Fluval. One of the important things for me is having easy access to spare parts parts that wear. Does FZone supply those as I don't see that on their site?

To many yes this is supposed to look like the ADA filter but at a cheaper cost. The extra modes are good for a reef and maybe some styles of freshwater but not really most will use. It’s nice looking but I feel cleaning would be a pain. The green hose I hate reminds me of eheim on their classic line. But this filter you can stack a lot of media but having the bio master I like the internal heater. The only thing I wish is to be able to put in a different heater one that isn’t glass. The aqueon pro line of heaters that are shatter proof are great and I wish I could use so I don’t have to be so careful when taking it apart. But in the end I agree with the pro and cons you mentioned. I'll keep my comment in English cause most here are from outside the NL, if I would spend 350 I would like to see that basic filter media should be included. It is Chinese manufacturing so I'm not expecting high grade quality but as you said basic setup manual should be included. Other downside that I see is the lid quality, it's just a stainless steel plate getting compressed on a rubber gasket. This might bend the lid in the long run causing leaking. It would have been nice if it had an reinforced ring welded onto the lid to add more strength and durability but it also makes it look solid. The pump is mostly plastic it would have been nice to see this in stainless steel too. I don't mind paying an 100 more for a stainless steel filter with stainless steel pump and media and hoses included. As they are your sponsor now see in how far you are able to influence this.

One more idea for the twin scape experiment. (Its off topic for this video, i might forget till you post the next one)
Effect of temperature on an aquascape.
    22-26 deg C vs. 30-32 deg C
(22-26 is the recommended temp online. I remember Balazs from green aqua saying that 24 deg C is a must for the scapes in GA gallery)
    Effect on
    1. Plant growth, shape of leaves etc
esp. for epiphytes like anubias and buces and stem plants.
    2. Algae growth
    3. How long can you avoid WC once both the scape has matured
    4. Co2 drop checker changes
    5. Fish and shrimp behaviour.
I'm from India, and the room temperature on an average is above 30 deg C. Lots of tutorial videos, esp the no CO2 scapes dont work at that temperature since plant growth gets affected, algae creeps up fast.
Chillers are way too expensive for budget scapers. Fans barely reduce the temp by 1 or 2 deg. Its a dilemma here.
    But I still enjoy aquascaping!

Always filter in the discharge end of the pump.

Wonderful canister filter. But it's quite absurd to hide such beautiful & expensive tool inside the cabinet. More, the filter has not a basket to contain media filters, therefore is not practical to clean. I am curious to purchase it (the price is about the half of ADA competitor ) but I am not sure it could be (beside the price) the best choice versus Eheiem or Tetra. Is it reliable as others? PLEASE NOTE: today Jan.16 2024 filters are not available on the FZAQUA site ("page not found)...

Looks great. Too small for my needs and suck you need to spend another $100-ish for media and an inlet/outlet. Makes it a little less economical. I'll probably go with an FX6 for my 120g build. same price, more power, comes with everything needed.

    • @1Venger

Buy stainless bro, my fluval fx6 just died because it's a plastic over engineered piece of C R A P.... It broke at the motor housing because the plastic there is super thin and poorly engineered.... think twice because after 8-10 years you'll regret it... buy stainless if you can, because you can always just change the motor, stainless never breaks...

Good evening! :) Thank you for this test, I am looking for a super silent filter, I live in a small apartment and I sleep in the same room as my aquariums, I would like to know if the Fzone is really silent in a room where we sleep or silent in a living room?? If I understood correctly, the flow is adjustable, your flow is 100%?? 3000L per hour is huge, I plan to make a 90P, have you tested a lower flow? 70% less is it even quieter? Best regards 😊

99.9% of the time people have their intake and outtake on the back of their tank so who cares if the tubing is red, green, black or even pink, it's irrelevant cause it's can't be seen anyway. if your intakes and outtakes are on the side of the aquarium, which looks stupid anyway having all that in plain sight on the side of your tank, then just go buy a length of clear tubing then if thats what you prefer, it's dirt cheap anyway.

Feels like a typical chinese product - something "revolutionary new" without any reasons. WHT it is made of steel? Look? Then made it plastic inside, and aluminum outside - X times cheaper, same look. At the end who even cares about external filters look? Technically, it is canister with external pump. No cages - maintenance and cleaning would be a nightmare. Terrible product, of course you have to review this nonsense because of sponsorship...

It is actually easy to clean, like 90% of the canister filters on the market, and definitely more people would be able to afford it compare to the ADA canisters, is it bad that more people are going to be able to afford a filter like this? I don't think so, but to each their own.

I'm sorry man but it looks like a kitchen garbage can ,they should of added some angles to it ,I'm not even annoyed that it didn't come with filter media it just looks sorta cheap ,no baskets ,no way of getting the filter media out easily to clean it ,if that was presented to me on the Shark tank series,it would be a definite NO from me ,like if you do something like that put a Glass window in it make it worth the money, because a stainless garbage bin and a pump is a worth about $50 .hmm yer and some pipe work
