- This gets my vote for best-ever Shindig clip. It's soul singer Gloria Jones singing Heartbeat about a week after she sang the same song on the same show. This clip is better, though. It's fast with a pulsing beat. The gorgeous Blossoms are on back-up, and Billy Preston is on organ. Love her cool attitude and powerful presence!!

Gloria Jones is up there with Martha Reeves ...Aretha Franklin.. Tammi Terrell.. as one of the queens of soul...ktf

there are many with powerful voice like millie jackson anne peebles etc but gloria had something special among the specials i know what i mean
Kind of a reunion there. You realize that Gloria Jones was one of the founding members of the Blossoms
BEFORE Darlene (Wright) Love joined the group 1959.
I always thought there were two Gloria Jones -- this one (born 1945), who sang Tainted Love and married Marc Bolan -- and another (born 1938) who was an original Blossom. Who knows? I can't find much info on the Blossom Gloria, so you're probably right. Glad you liked the video. I have another GJ clip, shot a week before this one (also Shindig).
@@thecadamusementcompany4209 he's wrong and you're right. There are two Gloria Jones. This is Gloria R. Jones originally from Cincinnati and a former member of the Cogic Singers with Preston , Andre and Saundra Crouch, Blinky Williams and Frankie Karl. She was Marc Bolan's partner and also and in demand session singer. The other is Gloria A. Jones an original Blossom (however gone by the time of Shindig) who was in The Girlfriends a part time Shirelle and did a TON of session vocals. Both are great singers.
@@recordguy4321 Good detail here that I didn't know about the non-Blossom Gloria in the clip. She's still kicking as of Oct. 2021.
