Very nice review of the Silver Meteor. I used to be a coach/sleeper car attendant for that train back in 2014. Memories!!!
Nice I been inside this station from Savannah to Charleston
Cool video. I'm taking this train round-trip to Orlando from Baltimore in June. I've done the trip to Miami from Baltimore back in the 90's. I always fly, but wanted to switch it up this trip. Great video!
Enjoyed your video. I'm going to do a sleeper when amtrak had 2 for 1 sale. Roomettes run over $500
Underated RUclipsr
Thank you for making & posting this video -you helped me to make an informed decision. I will be taking the same train and look forward to booking a roomette!
Wow!!! Great presentation!!!. I Think she is Ready for That News Reporter Job. Awesome Presentation!!!.
Great video.
Thanks
Fantastic work love it👍💯
Thanks for the video. I have been riding trains since I was a teenager and am 41 now. Getting ready to ride the Silver Star (basically the same at the Meteor) from Tampa to Cary North Carolina. I am booked in a Roomette on a Viewliner II so that one of these new sleepers. This will be my 2nd sleeper experience and 4th train ride this year.
Nice job on the review! Well put together, good editing and music mix.
Thanks for the upload video awesome
Nice you got one of the newer rooms! No toilets in the room thank god.
Why? I rather have it in the room than going down the hall during the night.
.
Yes the engine switch is cool to watch I have taken the meteor a half dozen times to and from Florida from New York
Great video!
Thanks for tour of new Charleston station. It has been many years since I worked that line so I didn't know that dismal old ACL station had ben replaced. At least this 21st century upgrade doesn't have separate Colored and White waiting rooms and restrooms.
I remember that old station like yesterday. It brings back memories. But it was certainly time for an upgrade.
Hey local Charleston (SC) resident here, I’ve noticed that trains tend to be late at our station, I believe this is because Charleston is no stranger to cargo traffic. Freight trains aren’t uncommon of a sight and the local harbor gets the town quite a bit of money. So I presume the delays have something to do with that
Yes absolutely. Usually the palmetto trains (90, and 89) tend to stay on schedule better than the silver meteor train I took in this video. Amtrak trains are commonly held back by Freight trains.
The Meteor has to travel all the way from Miami headed north to charleston, and Florida is known for rail traffic congestion
Yaaaaay Wilmington, DE that’s my home stop 👍🏾
Awesome video. So glad you guys had a great time
We are anxious to see the new Amtrak station
In a few weeks we will be in NYC.
Thanks for sharing! Loved this first video! Looking forward to the next video.
I'll be in Virginia next week.
I’m glad you will be seeing it! It’s incredible. It’s such an improvement compared to penn station.
Awesome. Want to travel from Savannah to NYC on the Silver Meteor.
Nice video!
Yo great video bro I loved how you explained everything and talked very clearly. I don't have any travel vlogs yet well actually I have 6 Greyhound bus videos and 3 Maryland area regional commuter(Marc) videos but it's not the same as Amtrak but I should have a Amtrak video coming next year in March💯💥🔥
Moynihan is merely an extension of the Penn Station (it’s still around and running) Great video!
No Moynihan train hall is not an extension of Penn Station. It is the new main train station in NYC. Penn Station and Moynihan train hall are 2 separate stations. Amtrak no longer uses penn station.
@@greattrainadventure8523 Amtrak still does use Penn Station as the platforms are still connected to both train halls. Amtrak would simply prefer you go to Moynihan as it gives you a better experience and makes them look better compared to the older less kept up Station. Boarding is also a lot easier with the better signage in Moynihan which helps encourage people to use it.
Wow 👌
Nice video
Between the Washington Monument and the bridge was the Jefferson Memorial.
Omg there are 2 rare locamotives
I would like to know how wheelchair accessible the Charleston station is. Good videos!
The Meteor is one of the few trains i havent taken. Brand new cars shouldnt be making all that shaking noise.
What's the song at 10:18? Did you have a meal reservation? If so, is it busy at early bird hours? Or towards the end of the meal time? Thanks a bunch!
The song is Hard Sun by Eddie Vedder. If I remember correctly We did not have a reservation we just showed up. But that might have changed since then. In the diner they always have room. I wouldn’t worry about that.
Sooo I got a question. My friend and I booked a roomette on the Silver Star yesterday and we got put into one of the older viewliner cars, how can we request to be put into a new viewliner car? Do we have to call Amtrak or something or ask when we get on board or something?
I’d call Amtrak ASAP to see what you can do, if worst comes to worst you can ask a station attendant the day of your trip to see if you can change it.
Yes you can request, instead of asking for the newer coach, ask to be in one of the LAST coaches. The newer viewliner 2s are usually at the end of the trains.
Let me defend the old style. The difference is cosmetic. If you are of a certain age, itvis nicevto have a John in your room, which you will have in the old roomettes. I have no idea what amteak was thinking. Putting a sink in but no john!! Skip the sink.
I wonder how many men will use the sink during the night
Gross!!! But I bet it will happen
What car were you in? Do you know if car 9812 is an old blue car or the new remolded ones?(like yours)
What station are you boring the train at? If you are getting on in Charleston it is VERY likely you will have a new viewiner, any point before Savannah it’s 50/50, I believe they board the viewliners front to back. Usually in CHS you get in the last one, which is a new one.
@@greattrainadventure8523 Getting on at Jacksonville, Fl
@@eileenw7807 I’d say 50/50, I can’t find anything about 9812.
great video, btw how did you get home from NYC? Did you get on a plane and fly home?
There will be more videos coming showing the trip. The only portion of the trip that won’t be shown is the one from NYC-Boston on the Acela. There are currently 2 videos on the way of the Acela from Boston-DC then the palmetto from DC-Charleston.
@@greattrainadventure8523 oh ok cool, i am looking forward to those videos
These 2 daily trains from NY to Here... one is Silver Meteor, second is Palmetto, ride is just 13-14 hours.
The brand new Viewliner 2 sleeper.
I like Silver Meteor, it's arriving at 7 am to DC, at 11 am to NY, departing about 1:30 pm from Orlando, 5:30 from Jacksonville, 7:45 from Savannah. In Sunrise you already passed Richmond, at 9 train already approaching Philadelphia...
Reverse schedule is about simular, departing 3:15 pm NYC and by 7 pm is already Washington DC, depart in 30 minutes, then by 9:45 is already Richmond, then they dim lights in coaches after 10 pm, quiet hours until 6, at 6:30 already Savannah, 9:30 Jacksonville, at 12 train already approaching to Winter Park, and at 12:50 pm arrival Orlando, 1:30 at Kissimmee... I used coaches only!!!
Props for EDDIE VEDDER!!
We live in Savannah. So we're in the same position I could live close enough to the water where I can hear the ships go by at night and I can hear their horns wonderful sound and I live not too far from the train tracks so I can kind of tell how busy we will be as far as the supermarkets have in Commodities we are blessed to live in the Port City. The train tracks are only about fifteen houses from us just a perfect distance to be able to hear it
I hope they restore that route again. There’s no need to suspend it. 98/97
So true.
Wait a minute... there's no bathroom IN the room when you pay for the roomette?
Oh no....
There are restrooms in the bedrooms, but not the roomette. But the old sleeping cars did have a toilet in the roomette (somehow) I personally think it is better that they removed the toilet from the roomette. Having a toilet right next to where you are sleeping is unsanitary, and the roomette is small as is. The restrooms at the end of the hall were clean and worked well the entire trip.
@@greattrainadventure8523 Thank you for your reply.
I wish the website made this clear, but honestly the Amtrak website is horrible to navigate.
Partly disappointed, but your point is true.
I'm glad they removed the toilets from the roommettes
13 hours to NY, in sleeper, that's too much!!!
Next time ride a coach!!!
I’ve done the trip in sleeper and coach! Both are an amazing experience!
4:57 I see u
Wonderful way to travel, if your not in a rush
And of course it helps if you love trains
Put your mask on properly when walking about the train!! Also don't go into other bedrooms that aren't occupied, there might be people in the restroom using them or people in the diner/cafe with their belongings in there. Looked like one room had the bed made up for someone in the lounge car.
Trust me there were no bags in the room. It was obvious it was unoccupied. And at the time of recording the diner and cafe were closed. I hadn’t realized that my mask was down, it was an accident. And also, there wasn’t anyone around me and on top of that I was fully vaccinated. I wore it properly everywhere else. And the silver meteor doesn’t have a lounge car.
