In this video you mentioned not to create your git folder in a cloud synced folder but didn't say why, I'm really curious why because this is something I was planning to do with my Nas.
You are by far the most articulate and easy-to-follow educator in this field for me. There are no gaps between your explanations, which is really hard to do if you want to include learners of all levels. You've nailed it for me.
Man I don’t know how to thank you- you are the first one that I found to be able to talk and explain everything clearly… finally I understood something about GitHub! You explained all so well… thank you so so so so so so so much ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is actually so much better than the github tutorial on their website which is just words on a page with no pictures on how to do it. This was extremely helpful, thank you
I want to say thank you, even though I somewhat understood version control and its importance not a single other person went through the process of explaining how to actually use github repos and best practices. Much love
i just started my journey in tech and i must confess your github tutorial is spot on . I have not been able to push my code to a repo for days now but after seeing this tutorial i did it with ease .. I hope to see more tutorials from you . Thanks
I've put off working with GitHub for as long as I care to remember. Now, I have to. Your video has helped tremendously. Now I'm wondering what all the fuss was about, thanks to your well explained tutorial. Thanks so much and Peace.
Glad it was helpful! With the internet, getting started is both harder and easier than ever. Information overload is a thing! If you like my teaching style, check out the C# tutorials on this channel, and if you really want to go deep, check out the courses on SkillFoundry.io.
Man, what an amazing video. That's what I was looking for. In other videos the creators just assume that everybody already know how to use the terminal and stuff so they don't have the ability to explain in an easy way for beginners to understand. Thank you, man.
You explained is this in a simple way. Versioning was a simple concept and we had tools like svn, tfs etc. But they had to make it and the terminology confusing and more complex just to show this is an improvement or something brand new.
This has been the most helpful video I’ve seen on GitHub. As someone who hasn’t used any sort of programming language since MSDOS or Basic, it’s really frustrating to see videos where everyone assumes you know what they’re talking about.
Thank you so very much for this thorough, clear, and concise video. I am a very slow learner and I watched your video one time and I was able to follow the steps to the T based off your directions and demo! I had to subscribe solely based on this video alone and because your demo was so detailed and you are a phenomenal teacher. I will be sharing your channel with many others in my "newbie tech circle" and on my LinkedIn profile. Please keep pushing out these videos!! Also, if you have knowledge and expertise in QA Software Testing... there is a definite need on RUclips for someone with your voice and teaching style. Please consider creating videos for novice software testers like myself!! Happy YouTubing!!!
As a newbie to Git and Github I was massively confused by the whole show, but this is a really clear and helpful demo that's easy to follow along with. Thanks for sharing, I've learnt a lot from this.
Thank you so much! I just had a tiny (massive) menty b (full on meltdown) before watching this and was yapping on about how I dont understand a word and just want to START. I just felt not welcome as a newby and that's been following me around through all programming apps and pages, so your first sentences really hit the spot
Amazing video, thank you! I wanted to know what GitHub was about and whether I needed it while I'm learning to code, and your intro was exactly what I needed.
I just wanna say Thank you so much ,I tried the Houdini project and I was so confused I didn't understand anything but this video helped so much for someone who is new to all of this, you got a new sub
@@SkillFoundryIO I've got to say this was the best overview I've ever had on the basics of GitHub... So you're doing a great job, thank you for the video and time to reply!
I like clicking things too, after all that's why there is a GUI in the first place. Even if it takes a few seconds more, it really doesn't lower your productivity in a meaningful way.
The amount of information that is covered, the pace at which you cover, and especially the format and your exact choices in how you walked through all of these concepts and scenarios, is absolutely wonderful man. I am wildly grateful because this was my first search for a GitHub getting started or something, and I am so stoked I chose this first. Thank you Eric Weise(?) Skill Foundry.
Thank you! I've done a lot of coding projects on my own before, but I've always been uncertain about how to proceed with trying to use version control. I want to make a portfolio to show off my projects, but I've been hampered by hesitation in making that first step.
Thanks for this tutorial! Though I would have slightly appreciated if you also shown where the buttons are for things, and where and how to make those things, but overall keep it up!
Thanks for the video, nice and straightforward. Question, what options do you have for Desktop Apps for the various OSs. I use Mac, iPad, Windows and Android. When looking for apps on the various platforms some are free and others charge. I'm not looking to do anything complex, just a single storage location for my code files that will only be used by me (although would like to give others access so they can see my files and clone if desired). Appreciate any suggestions on what would be the simplest apps to use. Thanks.
I think that GitHub desktop is good enough for most people. I’ve also used tortoise and kraken in the past. Kraken is really nice but probably overkill for your situation. I don’t use Git tools on my mobile devices since I code on my laptop and desktop only so I can’t comment on those. Luckily most tools are free or cheap and many have trials, so try them out!
Yep! Like many things in tech is complicated if you don’t understand at a high level what’s going on. Once you grasp the foundation, the tools get easier to learn.
This is great for developers to learn how to put their project on Github. But as an end user, I want to know how to get the executable for these projects down to my PC. There's almost never a download button or any trace of an exe file that I need to install the relevant app on my computer.
Any folder that isn’t cloud backup like google drive is fine. My computer has multiple storage drives. These drives are assigned letters, like C. D is where I keep my data.
Thanks again Eric, I've got an issue I hope you could assist with. I've created a repository and uploaded my Terraform file which I've created using vs code, initially everything worked fine. I made my changes, saved to GitHub Desktop BUT once i click on PULL ORIGIN it says that the .terraform.lock file is too large. How can i delete this file without affecting the terraform config file?
I’ll likely do a future video on branches. For now just select it in GitHub desktop from the current branch dropdown. Then you can fetch and pull from it. docs.github.com/en/desktop/working-with-your-remote-repository-on-github-or-github-enterprise/syncing-your-branch-in-github-desktop

nice video, was very helpful, please more beginner's videos.
You could zoom in a little on the screen shots and demos. It isn’t possible to read some of the menus, etc., and these layouts could change over time.
I subscribed and clicked liked from admitting not liking the command line. Great video btw
It has its place, but for Git I find the output cluttered.
Clear and concise educator!

Especially in something like Git. I'm getting older and spraying text into a console window is getting harder to read!

Yes it’s frustrating that many projects expect you to build them. They should link the current build to their readme

Git doesn’t let you push files > 100 mb but you’re saying pull… is the actual message that the file name is too long… not the file size?
