@@MDForTheCulture why would the patient be more important they don’t have the ability to save anybody in the room lol. The most in need of attention sure but the most important in the true Since of the word would be one of the Medical professionals
Honestly I’m currently torn between medicine and nursing on my second year of college about to obtain my Associates in nursing and I’m thinking of becoming a CRNA, but truly my passion and love lies in medicine. I want to be in the ER and know all these things and procedures to save people. I’ve been on my laptop all day researching until I came across your video. I don’t know if I’m prepared for it, but I don’t want to become a CRNA and then regret not going to med school and this video I feel just made me say screw it im going to take the challenge. Literally had my adrenaline pumping just imagining being there I’m definitely saving this video and I honestly want to thank you. I can sleep in peace now knowing I’m going to go after what I love and hope to become. I wish you luck as well and keep doing these videos man you’ve just become my inspiration.
Currently, I’m 16 years old and forgot how I came about this but once I began doing research on anesthesia and becoming an anesthesiologist I got even more intrigued.
I had my colonoscopy today and had my first anesthesia experience. It was the coolest thing I EVER experienced! I'm a 2nd year med student and anesthiology may be an option as of today!
Lol We love our different pitched sounds and different coloured flashing lights..and yes I chose this specialty because I saw as a med student that the calmest person in the room was the anaesthesiologist and I wanted to be that person..
Awesome video, Dr. Pinesett ! My dream is to become an anesthesiologist as well, I will start next January! Congratulations and keep up the good work !
Peace be to you Dr.Pinesett ! Thanks for sharing this anecdote! For some reason, I thought you were a surgical resident. I like your description of the chief resident ("did you hear that?!"). I think this shows the different levels of knowledge among different specialties and even, jobs. Do you find that you're utilizing your knowledge derived in courses like General Chemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology more so than if you were specializing in something else? I wish you the VERY best of succes in your endeavors! Peace!
Accidentally found your channel and so glad I did!!! Awesome channel and video. 8 year old nurse looking to go further but undecided yet. Thanks so much for sharing!
I didn't know what to expect from the title, but now I really feel Anesthesiologist are for real heroes. Before for me, anesthesiology sounded kind of boring to me,, for the same reason you gave, cause they always look so calm, so "whatever" with the patients, but after this and some investigation, now I'm really considering anesthesiology as my speciality, so really thank you (:
I am currently beggining first year of anesthesia residency in Spain. I wasn't sure about my choice until I saw a BP of 40/20, 210 BPM from a young 31 yo patient with severe blood loss (2 years ago). I laughed a lot when you told that one anaesthesia attending "loves" that SVT. I love cardio and VT/VF/SVT and I would probably think the same at that moment. I have some love-hate relationship with dangerous situations too, I expect to see them a lot! haha
Hello Dr. Pinesett! Great video on anaesthesia. Please let us know more about it. What does a normal week look like for you in terms of schedule? Do you have to work a lot of night shifts? What are the main cons of this specialty in your opinion? Really interesting topic. You made me wanna jump right into it! :)
Hugo Monteiro, I know the hours depends where you work. At my small hospital, we had regular staff from 7 AM-530 PM. After that, the call crew came in. 1 MDA was on call and they would be off the next day.
I would like your opinion on people who tell me don’t waste time on medical school because CRNA is shorter? and don’t be a doctor because “oh I heard doctors hate their lives, go the nurse practitioner route it’s also cheaper”.....I’m tired of people trying to discourage me 😑😤 but then I watch you videos and they are so encouraging. Thanks.
Nickolas Tomlinson Lmao, I’ve never heard anyone say that. Most doctors I see are very satisfied with their lives and line of work, if they’re not then they are in it for the wrong reasons... My parents taught me that working hard now in school will benefit me much more later in life, so just because a CRNA or nurse is shorter doesn’t mean it’s as worthwhile long term. Not to discourage or discredit them, but I could never see myself as anything but a doctor. But it’s not for everyone, you really have to want to be a doctor yourself if you want the true satisfaction.
Nick I thought about going the CRNA route but I don’t want to spend two years as a nurse to get into anesthesia so I’m opting to go to Anesthesia Assistant school.
That’s a cool story, but even as a pharmacy student one would know about pinpoint pupils and giving Nalaxone which isn’t bad even if they aren’t overdosing on an opoid
Dr. Pinesett, can you fill some us in more about Anesthesia/CCM and why there aren't more Anesthesiologists in CCM? It makes so much sense for anesthesia to be in CCM, but when they are I frequently see them only in the CVICU or Trauma ICU. Why not MICU?
I'm at the end of my first year of medical school. Last week my teacher in anatomy came into class carrying a tray with three hemisected skulls and nobody lifted an eyebrow. You become used to things really fast
This was an awesome video Dr. Pinesett! Thank you so much for sharing! Could you talk about gender as you become more knowledgeable as to why there aren't many female anesthesiologists? And if you do ever meet any, do they have any similarities between their personalities? What have you been hearing regarding females and anesthesia? Please continue to share your awesome stories! They are enlightening! Thank you so much in advance!
I’m thinking of going the Anesthesia Assistant route. Chemistry and Physics hate me so that is my first challenge to overcome in my journey to AA school.
Me too. I will be done with my Pre-req courses this semester, and also thinking of taking GRE in a month time, which is really a short time to get ready, but i will give it a try and hopefully apply in Wisconsin as the deadline is on Feb 28.
@@earlautry7999 Thanks pal. Physics was never my favorite course since high school, but i managed to get an "A" last semester, it was really rough, but i didn't give up until the very last minute, i was literally sprinting to the finish line. You wouldn't believe me if i told you, i had a "C" in the mid semester and i was taking 16 credits. So don't let them intimidate you, if you spend enough hours and get good materials, you can do it. And Chegg.com helped me greatly with the lab problems also.
Meron G Thanks Meron. I’ve been avoiding the physics. Gonna get on it next semester. Can’t avoid it any longer lol. I plan to buy Dr. P’s study course so I can dominate the higher level courses.
Hello Dr. Andre Pinesett, I have been watching your videos enjoyed the video "Should You Do Nursing Before Medical School?". My main goal is to pursue Anesthesiology. My question is I am not sure if CRNA's and AA will take over in the future. I want a dependable career that I love and know will be waiting for me. for the next years to come. If I do not pursue medicine I do not know what career I would then choose. Any advice.
SVT is a narrow complex tachycardia resulting from fast fire “Supra” or above the ventricles. Needs to be treated right away before it turns into v-tach. Good stuff otherwise man!
Caleb actually, that’s not correct. SVT is a class of tachycardia originating above the AV node. Only needs emergent treatment if patient has heart risk factors or it is extremely fast. For example, when you exercise you experience SVT, but you don’t need treatment 😀
Svt doesn’t necessarily mean narrow complex, you can have svt with a bundle branch block. But in the video he uses SVT and VT interchangeably as if they are the same thing.
Hey Dr. P! Not sure if you've made a video talking about it however I would like to know more about your MPH degree. How have you been able to incorporate your learning in public health with being a physician. I ask because I'm very much interested in pursuing a dual degree in medicine and public health
David Raskind he answered the question on his q and a on Facebook. His answer is that his master's wasn't about necessarily incorporating it but for having knowledge
Doctor, in 2005 I had my second cornea transplant with a different eye doctor and I was awake for the last few minutes while the doctor was still stitching my new cornea. Do you know why that was done?
Many surgical eye procedures are done under monitored anesthesia care (MAC). Depending on the level of sedation, you may or may not remember what happened in the operating room.
Great story. It's kinda funny tho that all those doctors were there and didn't think to just administer narcan lol I've recently been very interested in anesthesiology. How hard is the pressure to deal with tho? Cuz from what everyone says, one little mistake means you killed someone, and you're ultimately responsible for that death. Also, I've read that a myriad of nurses and nurse practitioners these days are taking jobs that anesthesiologist doctors would normally have. Is this true or fake/exaggerated news?
Good thing ur not in Internal Medicine. “Exhausted” would be an understatement hahaha. Anesth is a lifestyle residency compared to the toxic life in IM..

As a nurse, I have always said that the most important person in the OR suite is the anesthesiologist.
It's the patient.

good content! But SVT doesn't really deteriorate into flatline unless the patient is in exceptionally bad state
In a patient with poor cardiac circulation, the supply demand imbalance can result in complete cardiac collapse.
I’m graduating HS next year and I’ve always wanted to be an anesthesiologist but idk if I’ll ever get used to seeing all the blood,
Amy Archer Did you get use to being in high school?
You can get use to seeing anything after awhile.
Unless you faint instantly at the sight of blood, you'll be fine. You get used to seeing viscera long before you even see your first patient.
