Jennifer personifies what a comeback in life is supposed to look like. When life knocks you down, you get back up....and stronger than you were before. 13 slam semis...3 finals, and won them all. Plus the Olympic gold medal and the number one ranking. She seized the big moments extremely well. What I love most about Jennifer is her fearlessness. She wasn't afraid to play anyone, anywhere, anytime. If you were going to hit the ball hard against her, then she would hit it harder. Even in the loses she went down swinging.
I had the pleasure to meet Jennifer Capriati, at the 2000 Australian Open. Back then I was searching for my purpose in life. I had clinically diagnosed depression and anxiety issues.Jennifer,l followed you as a fan, ever since you arrived as a teenager,at your first Australian Open. I kept following you, cheered you on at the Barcelona 92 Olympics, and supported and prayed for you during your dark days off the tennis circuit. I was really happy for you, when you returned and won your 3 singles titles.(2 Australian Opens and 1 French Open). You were courageous, determined and a fighter. I want to thankyou for being an inspiration.
I had a hard time in my teenager years and was so inspired by the comback Jennifer in 2001/02. It was a time my country was still considered as the dessert of tennis. I didn't have the chance to play tennis but watched all Australian opens and French opens on TV. I put a lot effort in learning English so that I could understand her interview. In 2014 I finally made the Roland Garros trip. I went to court Susan Lenglen und only saw Kim Clijsters there... Oh this speech makes me cry again. Thank you Jennifer for all you have brought me. I wish you all the best!
What a beautiful elegant heartwarming speech. I know her injuries limited her to all she wanted to do on the court However what she did accomplish was profound.
This is so beautiful. I miss Jennifer, she had such a hard time, from the press and fans alike. When all said and done, three grandslams and an Olympic Title. That's pretty incredible. I still think Jennifer had one more notch to go with her game had she a full healthy year without problems with her early retirement.
At Saddlebrook we had the privilege of having Jennifer and Steven in our program when they came over from Rick Macci’s. Jennifer was so sweet and friendly and Steven was my good buddy. What an awesome Hall of Fame career and an equally great acceptance speech. Good for a Jenn. She’s an All Time Great. Thank you Jennifer for giving us so much great entertainment watching you compete with such excellence and joy. Stay healthy and happy.
Jen was always my fav of all time. Her journey through ups and downs and strength of character to excel from adversity is legendary. Congrats to a true Legend
I am so happy to listen to this speech. I love you Jennifer. A poster of you just before turning into pro is still on the wall of my room. Your smile encourages me. Thank you for uploading.
@@hydrolito True, I don't know all of the paticulers of Foremans comeback, but I don't think he stopped due to getting hooked on drugs. Jen crashed hard but fought back. It sounds like Agassi went through a rough time too.
These words at 16 evaded her due do a lack of years . I cried with her because self love and self worth doesn’t have a time table - that she got there is the point .
She struggled, greatly, and made it here anyway. The humility and depth she exhibits are heartwarming. I have always loved her technique as well, modeled my game on it as I never had coaches or teachers in my area when I fell in love with tennis. I adored Monica but emulated Jennifer's textbook strokes. Thank you, Jennifer, for your courage and humanity.
I always love Jennifer and I was so sad to see her went down in some points of her life! She deserves the best life could offer to her! Stay strong Jennifer! You are a champion and always will a champion! You have iron will to win those slams , you certainly will win your life and make it the best! We live you!❤❤❤
This girl is a true champion both on and off the court. She shows us that life can be tough and yet, in the end, you can come through and still be a winner. You are a gutsy girl, Jennifer, thank you for showing us how it's done.
I really really wished she was still connected to tennis.! I idolized her and loved to watch her play! Tennis needs her and her story! I wish I could tell her that in person!!! ♥️
Well not long after this she was charged for assault and stocking, so I don't think her life was quite as beautiful as you think. Probably better than the drugs and Dale Dabone porn years.
Well done on your induction into the Tennis Hall of Fame.I was a pleasure to support you as a fan,I believed that you had the courage, resilience and never say die fighting spirit on the tennis court.you are an inspiration to many and I wish you well for your retirement years. We miss your smile and the tennis you play. Thankyou for the selfie I have with you at the Australian Open, the year you won your first grand slam title.
She’s so inspiring! I always loved her!! I wish I could bump into her in Florida and say girl tennis needs you! Your father would have wanted you to be involved in tennis! ♥️
She has fallen off the radar everywhere, hasn't she? There has been no news at all about her. No social media presence and no interviews at all. I hope she is at peace now and is happy.
Well not long after this she was charged for assault and stocking, so I don't think her life was quite as beautiful as you think. Probably better than the drugs and Dale Dabone porn years.
@@datacipher “stocking”? you sound like a perfect human being (apart from the spelling issues). so i guess you are in a position to decide whether a person who went through a hard time can be beautiful & a fighter. we imperfect mortals live by a different measure ~ how flawed people respond to their worst days. it must be nice to live on your cloud of unerring morality. i can only thank you for your generosity in descending to our mortal plane to dispense your great & wise judgment on jennifer capriati’s actions 3 decades ago. how kind of you to take the time to share your subtle ethical insight. humbly, a mere human.
@@sayresrudy2644 lol...um..that's not a spelling issue - obviously. (by the way...you've already lost the "argument" when you resort to pointing at autocorrect issues). Moreover, I never claimed to be perfect - a sad little ad hominem attack and dishonest misrepresentation of what I said. You can go on and on about how my short post is invalid because you misrepresent me as claiming to be perfect. I am not at issue here - not that it would make any sense to argue about my morailty/life/character with a stranger (who knows nothing about me). It is so PATHETIC to see how triggered you are by a stranger making a FACTUAL comment about a celebrity. NO....the issue was not my imaginary claim to perfection - it was about YOUR claim of Capriati's perfection ie. "beauty". The facts are facts - a year after this she will be charged criminally. Finally let me note one little additional dishonest eg. "3 decades ago"....yeah....again...this was one year AFTER her speech. It's clear you're a very emotional person - hysterically so - I urge you to stop blindly worshipping celebrities, and recognize that people are indeed flawed (that's the ONE thing you got right). Making one nice speech doesn't make her "beautiful", actually the empirical evidence suggests she is a highly flawed person who has struggled with many things over her life. Whitewashing it in unicorns and rainbows doesn't help - and doesn't change reality. In fact, pretending she is a angel does her a disservice in eliminating all the struggles she has - and may well continue to have. Take a deep breath, calm down, and GROW UP. People's lives are not summed up in one speech or a meme you saw. YIKES....

No. She made an incredible comeback in 2001-02. She won the 2001 Australian Open, 2001 French Open, and 2002 Australian Open before injuries caused her to permanently retire in 2005. Her story is insane and she had one of the greatest comebacks and redemption arcs in sports history.
Could be mental illness. So many great artists and athletes usually protégés suffer from bipolar and such. Sounds like she may suffer from depression. Also because she was so young playing tennis that’s all she knew her identity so not being able to play probably through her for a loop. She lost her grounding and didn’t know who she was without tennis.
I sadly think things have gotten worse for her since then. I heard she got severely depressed after her father passed away in 2015 and we have heard nothing from her ever since. I hope we don't read about some horror ending for her in the future. Notice how they inducted her into the Hall of Fame shortly after her 2010 drug relapse. They were not just honoring her for her incredible career but also hoping to make her feel good mentally with that very honorable gesture.

Seles and Capriati girls you are always in our hearts and yes your 91 US open is the greatest match of all time
It's not the greatest match of all time, but it was a great match and issued in big babe tennis. Big forehand backhand, and return off serve.
Not the greatest but AT the time, it was a futuristic tennis match... Both played very Big shots during 3 sets and faster than everything seen before.
What a beautiful speech WOW! Well deserved Capriati!!! You earned that spot girl!
What an awesome GENUINE speech! I've always admired her drive and grit but this speech really makes me admire her even more!

A lovely speech. She was quite a fashionista on court and a graceful player.
Graceful player!!??
2004 was the best year comeback beating Serena 3 times that's incredible Capriati 🎉 👏
An amazing inspiring human being. ❤️ Well deserved.
Always enjoyed seeing J.C.'s matches. Win or loose, she really did give it 100+%. Whatever she's doing these days, Auguri and "Boca Lupo".
