My dad taught me how to soldier when I was about 8 years old. I’m in my 50s now. Yep, you know what you’re doing. This is a great skill to have and you never know when you’re going to need it, for things that you never thought you would need it for!. Great job as always teaching things that are valuable other than rc stuff
I knowwww. the motors are my least favorite to solder. I'm always eyeing people's solder jobs on their cars and envy the people who can get them all perfect. haha!
Awesome video 👍 Pro tip: after you have remove isolation of a wire. Twist the wire in the same direction as the wire is already twisted. Then flux and tin it 🙂 The twist make the wire easier to solder to e.g. a connector.
Probably one of the best soldering guides I’ve seen. Thank you RC girl 😊 it looks so easy when you do it. I always struggle since I beleive you always need another hand. But my heart breaks when you remove the deans plug with an xt60 😂😂 just kidding.
Great vid Hayley, as always! So many folks are intimidated by soldering, this video will help a lot for sure. And yes, a point I always like to make.... spend the money and get a good soldering station. It's a game changer. It is really hard to get good results when you don't have enough heat. 😉
I’ll second that. Always get the highest power iron you can. Work quicker, less heat transfer then. And get a good soldering “helping hands” station. I always struggle with battery plugs! HATE doing them, especially on a live battery!!
Excellent tutorial video, Haley! Although, I've been using solder with flux already in it, I had no idea how much it helps to have additional solder as well! I think I'll be much better at soldering now, thanks to you! Awesome video, as always!
Great vid! I would recommend using a much larger tip with a flat spot on the soldering iron for larger diameter wire and joints, it will transfer heat more quickly. You'll find the small tips will loose heat too quick and stick to the joints. Also best to place the iron underneath the wire for a few seconds and touch the solder on the top side of the wire. Also try not to apply too much solder to the wire or take too long to make the joint as the solder will wick up into the wire under the sleeving making the wire stiff, especially if you need the wire flexible at the connection.
was looking at printers last night!!! knight customs has many goodies for the fordyce i just picked up!! and id throw the anchor on my tf2 custom truggy
Awesome video and well done! Never thought of heat resistant gloves. I'll admit it, I grabbed a 12awg wire one time after just soldering it. Yep. Never did that again lol. btw pretty new to your channel 🙂 keep up the great work.
yeah eye protection is critical...I remember many years ago I splattered some solder into my eye when working on my RC10L back in the early eighties...and ended up in the emergency room..
You mentioned it several times but can’t be emphasized enough. Use plenty of flux. It will make soldering so much easier. Rosin core solder just isn’t enough. I’m sure somebody will chime in with when you need it and when you don’t, but I always clean the flux from my solder joints when done using isopropyl alcohol.
I've wasted multiple soldering iron to Oxidization which means the iron tip turns black permanently. Since then I use a damp cloth to wipe the tip now and then and always cover the tip with lead. Never leave the tip exposed or they will get oxidized.
Yeah good reminders! I didn't go into detail about iron care/maintenance in this video, but I definitely clean the tip every time before putting it in the holder. And tin before storing it.
Best Solder is 62% Sn 36% Pb 2% Ag solder as it has a slightly higher electrical conductivity, cooler soldering ~200°C and cleaner result (shinier / harder skin). Best thing about solder is you only need to buy the best quality ONCE. 500g roll will last you your life time. Kester is brilliant and yes I did buy a roll from Asia and I used 1cm to discover it was pure turd. It's now a paper weight.
Watch how many times the MOLTEN solder splatters in the video. Wearing safety glasses while soldering is probably one safety item I would never compromise on.
Always makes me laugh. We call it soul - der because it has an "L" in it. It isn't spelt "soder". I have always wondered why you guys pronounce it that way?
quite the opposite! I'm so grateful to companies that help support my channel so I can continue to make videos that help people learn and grow in the rc hobby.
Been watching your videos for ages. Unfortunately your channel has changed from a hobby orientated one to a commercial one. No criticism there, it is your channel and you handle it how you want. But it just might chase some long time viewers away.

Great video Hayley, thank you. Now I need to practice.
This is SO HELPFUL! Thank you so much for clear and approachable instructions!
Good video. I always struggle with soldering to the motor without making a mess. Lots of flux is definitely the key!

Loved this how to, your science background really shows! And congrats on your sponsorship!🎉
Aw thanks! I actually learned a ton doing research for this vid which helped my own soldering haha
Awesome rc girl I learned something today think you enjoy it too 👍😎♥️
Great video! Don’t forget to solder in a well ventilated area as those fumes are toxic😃
Great tutorial! Now let’s see if I can improve my soldering skills. Thank you.
I'm needing to do this on some current projects💯🚘 thanks 4 the vid 🏄♂️
Thank you. I been needing a good video on this to give me the confidence
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks - good point! I did twist it but didn't mention it in the vid whoops

Thanks! You definitely didn't see all the XT60s I melted or ruined trying to get a perfect one on camera!!! lol Yes another hand always helps too.
Great tutorial. Thank you for the video!

I personally see nothing wrong with anything suggested in this video. Thank you for helping ALL people in the hobby.
Amazing video! Thank you!

Yeah the flux paste is really helpful for getting it in nooks and crannies. :)
Great vid!

Fantastic video. Question. Where can I find that Red Wire holder. It looks heaven sent.
Good breakdown and tutorial. Thanks!
You just reminded me that I really suck at soldering. 😂
Great information nice job 😊😊😊

🤩👑🏆🔥👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Yeah I do the same thing except I just keep pouring more and more solder into the joint until it looks like an egg.
GREAT JOB. MAY I ASK WHERE YOU GOT THE RED WIRE HOLDER. I WANT TO GET A COUPLE. THANK YOU. 👍

please tell the truth are the Xt60 Bullet Connectors any good are they as good as the Genuine AMASS

Great instructional video, but damn! Far too much "soddering" for me 🤯
Never ever in my life have I see someone soldering with safety glasses and a glove. Ever.
rebels!😄

Your solders on the XT60 and motor don't look good, don't flow out enough
If you use a larger tip (3 - 5 mm) you get better heat transfer.
