I got an x1carbon for Christmas and am just trying to learn a few basics with freecad. I’m looking forward to the tutorial and hope the fusion will be similar enough to help me. Amazing what you do with it.
James, when I started to learn "Auto Screw Machines" they used a formed cutters. They required to be reshaped, using a grinder. Required different grinding wheels. It took a while to learn for different jobs. It might be helpful to show some setups and show some different wheels and perform a few grinding operations. On your machine.
My first machining job was running B&S automatic screw machines. We didn't grind our own form tools though; we sent that out to a specialist shop. Did you shape the wheels into a complete part shape and then grind it into the tool, or just grind the shape into tool with a variety of flat and radiused wheels?
The powder coat doesn't have to be glossy. There are hundreds, maybe thousands of colors and finishes. Textures and low sheens are common and some are made to be extra durable for machines. The vein colors, such as silver vein, will have a silver in a black base. It looks like hammered paint. I'm still working on getting my powder setup going, but have done samples and small parts with some candy colors and the silver vein. You can always pick a color from a powder coat supplier and have a shop shoot the color, or have them order it. Logos can even be made in the powder with different colors.
So, just as a thought, maybe redo that tool tray with some magnets on the bottom. For as much as you take this apart and put it together, you might enjoy the screws staying put. It might just attract metal dust too.
would it have been an option to add an idle pulley to guide the belt the match the original front plate? instead of bringing the plate up to match the belt loop
A while ago you were using a battery powered screw driver for 4mm bits. You said you might talk about it, but you never did. I'm curious if it was worth the money?
28:50 powder coating is really easy to do if you have an oven big enough for that part, but once you do that, you should never cook food in it again. 😊
@@Clough42 Please, which vaccination and boosters did you get (if any)? Just curious for the sake of completeness, because you mention that this time you were prescribed Paxlovid (pills)? Thanks, and great video as always!
11:07 You say here you have no financial relationship with SendCutSend, but the description mentions that they sponsored this video. I'm guessing you hashed all that out after filming that segment? Might be worth editing in a small correction? I believe RUclips gives some tools for that. Either way, thanks for the great conten! Nobody else makes me feel so slow when it comes to CAD! :D Edit: on a second look it seems they only 'sponsored the project' by sending free parts, I was just mislead for a second by the segment at 11:07 saying that they did not pay for particular verbiage without any 'even though they sponsored, these are my own opinions...' that we see everywhere on RUclips. The language is all technically correct but I can't help but feel there is room for more clarity just in that one segment. Mentioning that they did not pay you for one thing without an adjacent mention that they did pay you for another partially obscures the nature of your relationship. This is exacerbated by the fact that I (and I'm sure many others) quickly lose attention when a creator talks about sponsors so a policy of extreme clarity whenever the sponsor is mentioned might be warranted even if it is a bit cumbersome.
I watch a lot of creators with different arrangements with sponsors, suppliers of free parts but no other payments, or simply pleased with particular suppliers. Of these creators, I feel like James is plenty clear for viewers with normal attention and comprehension. It's even repeated in the description, and it's all consistent. If you "quickly lose attention when a creator talks about sponsors', that's hardly the fault of the creator that you missed what they tell you about sponsors (or suppliers of stuff at no cost etc).
Those laser/plasma cutters aren’t cheap, but those breaks they use are serious industrial equipment that I don’t think James can necessarily emulate easily
should have an o-ring groove in the bottom of the control box to seal that connector opening against the metal plate!
James, get those panels Cerakoted. Super durable thin ceramic-type coating, I’m sure you know of it. Used in firearms.
James: You can ignore those
Us: oh, can we now???
Can't throw the dog a bone?

Beautiful end result. I wouldn't worry about color-matching the top plate. Naked aluminum looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent work on your and Send Cut Send. Looks like it was part of the grinder to begin with
Good to hear you can export a step file. I always had trouble with bent sheet metal (my own fault). Cool.
Fantastic work as always.
I heard "The Big C" and I felt a drop in my chest. Thank something or other that you only meant Covid. Very tidy work.
Brought to you by Coke no sugar coolant 😄 00:01
Great video as always 😊👍
17:14 - That is just amazing.
Well that's me dying of COVID... Dr: "You can have your health by forgoing coffee for a bit." Me: "Nice knowing you."😉😜

I wonder how engine turning (jeweling) would look on the surface grinder sheet.
I love engine turned finishes but I don't think it would be the best fit with the very modern aesthetic of this machine.
What are your complaints on the Prusa XL?

Usually the powder coaters have a minimum order charge, so worth getting a batch of parts done at once.
got one of those zip ties guns for xmas... Great tool and great vid as always
I found one on a job site about 30 years ago and I've been using it ever since :-D
Anyone else here hope to be just 20% as good as this guy some day....
I'd say I'm at least 20% as good. I can do the designing and machining he's doing, but my software development skills are WAAAY behind 😀
Which TPU did you use for the tool tray? Just curious whether it was the Bambu for AMS, it seems quite flexible.
Siraya Tech 85A. Link in description.
@@Clough42 Thank you.
I've never looked into send cut send, but heard a lot about it. The prices look incredible!

"I love it when a plan comes together."
-Mr 42, I think
It was John "Hannibal" Smith from the ‘A’ Team, a great phrase nonetheless.
That's Prusa quality :D
I dig it!

Hi james, can your grinder do 3d contours, or only flat planar surfaces?
Send-Cut-Send? That, sir, is _cheating_ .
😜

Why don't you dragon scale polish it? It would look great.

👍
The phrase “the big c” already existed in popular culture for something that can be worse.
Oh, hmm. That was unfortunate. I'll claim brain fog and ignorance.

Get well soon & don't get it again ... Happy New Year 🤔😁🇦🇺
Pro work as usual James, but you didn't make it go....we didn't see any sparks in this video...that's what we all live for, sparks and chips! 🤣
sponsored segment so good i straight up forgot it was an ad. noice
What is this peace that ruins the sacred bean?
So, what's next... project ? 😉

I’m watching you order parts from an online machine shop for your…machine shop. I get it, but it just feels weird.

Mike and ikes are a notable downgrade from sour patch kids, IMO.
