A 2019 with the 114 engine, I just bought the 2023 with the 117. I’ve never owened a motorcycle I’ve enjoyed riding more. Love my Breakouts!

      @@gavinblak23 Find a Sportster 883, used, and have cash in hand. If it's regular transportation and you aren't going to thrash on it, look into a 2008 or newer Sportster with Fuel Injection. It will save you ton's in headaches over a carbureted model that goes to shit with E-10 gas in it, and varnishes up, needing a carb rebuild, or rejetting if you change elevations and ride up in the mountains. FI saves a lot of headaches with fuel air mixture compensation. Leave it stock, don't put noisy pipes or aftermarket air filters on it, save your money.... you can do those mods when you get much older and on a Milwaukee 8 or a Twin Cam HD.

    I think this is the best option for old-school riders that want a cruiser. It is very low in my opinion like most newer Harleys are. I sat on one in the showroom and it surprised me my hip about went out of the socket and I almost dropped it. lol. It's cool though. Not a fan of the fancy electronics as they get outdated pretty fast and getting replacement parts 15 years down the road will probably be a nightmare. So, I would have been happy on this bike with an old school mechanical speedo like the sportsters had a few years back

    Tell you what Matt, this really takes the piss. Here in the UK, the starting price on this bike is £24,000+. Then after one or two 'little additions', this can easily hit £30K. Compared to say, a Triumph Bobber at over half the price, £30K seems like a ridiculous amount.

    Nice throwback intro! I started riding in the mid 90’s and I remember the bike scene absolutely exploding in the early 2000’s. When the Softail Deuce came out, it kind of had that factory custom vibe with the stretched tank and boat tail rear fender. I get that same factory custom vibe with the Breakout. Two bikes light years apart, but similar in some ways.

  • @dr.danmorel
    @dr.danmorel Год назад

    Matt,
    I agree with you when you say that the modern Softail chassi is the best ever designed by Harley…. But as an owner of 3 HD’s one being a 20 Low Rider S….And the other two a 97 Super glide and a 2006 Sportster 883 Low.
    I must say that even though the modern softails are fun to ride, they lack many characteristics that makes Harley a Harley.
    And by that I mean the vibration, the sound… that the current softails don’t match.
    Of the three bikes, the one I ride the least is the Low Rider… because of that reason.
    I prefer the Super Glide with its rustic riding, vibrating, with a heavy clutch and with that quintessential Harley sound than the fun of riding a well adjusted Low Rider S…

    The 3.5" gas tank was definitely a deal killer for me. This bike is nearly perfect. I'm not a fan of huge rear tires. They look cool, but hinder handling. A chopper doesn't have to handle poorly. Indian Larry and Billy Lane made bikes that looked cool and handled great.

    I have a 2003 V-Rod that I've customized a bit. I love it. It's pushing 135hp, I've done 133mph on it and it was pulling hard when I backed off. It's comfortable. It handles well. All that being said, I have always liked the Break Out. It's just that, every time I go to look at one, and then read a comparison, the old V-Rod blows its doors off and is a comfortable bike. I'd really like to buy a new Breakout. But is it better than my 20 year old V-Rod? Yeah, I know.....the Big Twin guys hate the V-Rod and the Rice Rocket guys hate the V-Rod. I get grief from everyone....but I think the V-Rod is a great bike. But, the Breakout is beautiful! And I'm glad HD brought it back. Is the new one better than my old 'Rod? At 101 hop, that's down about 35 from what I have now....but it's got way way more torque. Matt, what do you say? I wouldn't hesitate to hop on the V-Rod and ride from WV to Sturgis. Is the Breakout comfortable enough for that? My ONLY complaint about my current bike (that I've owned since 2009) is the 3.7 gallon gas tank. With the mods I've done, it only gets 31mpg. So at about 80 miles, the fuel light comes on. It doesn't have much range.... But I think this new Break Out looks gorgeous :)

    I always thought the Breakout was one of the models that transitioned the best into the new generation M8 frame, and with the full size tank, it definitely looks even better! It's awesome; I'd love to own one now honestly. Putting the smaller tanks on the Softails was always kind of a gamble by HD. I think they alienate a lot of potential buyers unnecessarily. HD should try adding the larger tanks on the Street Bob/Standard and Fat Bob. It would be an easy way to change things up on those existing models. But yeah, the Breakout looks awesome with this small change! Thanks for making the great video!

    Thanks as always for top quality reviews. Sure there is global inflation, still my jaw drops with the price tag at 20999 usd, here in France the breakout is at 31410 usd base priced. The average income is only a bit superior, and HD quality is becoming out of touch elitist for ordinary working folks. My feeling is European citizens are paying EU environmental gas emission restrictions amongst many other things

    The biggest issue with HP figures is that it leaves one important factor out of the equation. Which is time. A 200 HP engine could be producing the same amount of HP as a 120 HP engine, at the same moment in time. Trust me, I know, I use to be a spec sheet warrior. This is why people who are honest about supersports bike will tell you that pass 100 or 120 hp, it's just not "usable" power for the street. Ironically, most metric engine that are considered fun have less HP then their counterpart and are configured toward TQ. Think Mt-07 and Duke 890.

    • @stevem4783
      @stevem4783 Год назад +1

      Same mistake everyone makes when looking at dyno sheets. Everyone is always concerned with the peak number, but the peak number literally does not matter unless you're a professional track racer. 99% of the time you are riding you are using a fraction of your bike's total power.
      The only thing that matters is the shape of the lines...how flat the torque curve is and where the HP sets in. Supersports are miserable to ride in normal riding conditions because nobody wants to keep a bike wound up to and well past 8k all the time, if you're below their power range they suck and if you are up there where you need to be, you're in reckless driving territory and doing something very dangerous on the street.
      Internet warriors love to talk about peak numbers and ignore torque curves, gearing, feel, and context. There's a reason people have loved low spinning, high cube motors for a long time (not just in bikes, but cars and trucks too.)

      @@stevem4783 Great points. I was telling my brother, who had an R1, that he wouldnt really see a difference from 0 to 100 km/h on my Ninja 400 (He laugh at the fact that I had a 400 actually). He tried it and admitted the thing felt as fast as the R1 up to 100km/h (thats 62 miles for you!). The most important thing you mentionned about the spec sheet is that it doens't tell you how the bike will make you feel!

    • @stevem4783
      @stevem4783 Год назад +2

      @@einherjar2545 Exactly. Same type of people complain that the Sportster S "got less power" than the Pan Am, even though the S is tuned to bring on the torque earlier and maintain it through the powerband which makes it a quicker and more fun bike on the street, but those people just see 150 vs 120 and jump to a conclusion.
